iiView slates M1Touch Windows 7 tablet for release later this month
Never given much thought to owning something with an iiView label on it? Think again, vaquero. Teased here beside two of Apple's most well-known cash cows, the M1Touch packs a rather delicious list of specifications. Behind the 10.1 multitouch display (1,024 x 600) is a 1.66GHz Atom N450 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, integrated webcam, USB socket, 4-in-1 card reader and an inbuilt accelerometer. She's running Windows 7 Home Premium and should last around three hours (sad, we know) on a full charge, with pricing set for just over $500 when converted to Greenbacks. Further details are few and far between, but given that it's expected to ship by the end of May, we suspect we'll know more as Computex kicks off in Taiwan.

It looks like its 5 inches thick!
... Oh shit..
@ddddd
I was waiting for that ;) lol
@ddddd not to you!
@Technologeee It's just a big iPod.
The iPad I mean.
I don't know what the hell that thing on the right is supposed to be.
In all fairness, if you look on it as if it's a touchscreen netbook, it's not that bad. At least you get iTunes on it.
@TinWard
They blew it.
@Technologeee
I have to big Steve J up for bringing back the good old 4:3 displays. Look how ridiculous that 16:9 looks like comparing with iPad and it prooves (what all major manufacturers were trying to disregard in the name of economies of scale) that the cinematic aspect ratio is useless for productivity.
@RIMming Much like the iPad itself is for productivity.
@RIMming Unless you do color correction, editing, special fx for movies. Just saying.
@Technologeee the tablet has been "raised" on the table to give you that impression. Check this image instead:

Yeah, great journalism Engadget!
Ugh... , $500+, 3 hour battery life, ugly as hell.... PASS...
@Baka Sama : They keep forgetting the important things:
1. HD playback capability (720p+)
2. HD Resolution
3. 6+ Hours Battery Life
4. CPU Performance
@Baka Sama I'd rather pay $500 for something running full blown Win& than pay Apple that much for a supersized iTouch.
Here we go again...
@BrandonHarris
Lol I know.. Us engadget readers have become bored and furious over the ridiculously populated tablet market.
It is to our nature to diss any tablet that isnt the "good" one.
Oh, and my GF? she says her new ipad fits comfortably.
@Technologeee I think you don't have a girlfriend. Enjoy your iPad.
@Technologeee Does your girlfriend have a mustache?
@Technologeee glad to hear she is prepared for that 'time of the month' ;) she must have a BIIIIIIIG p***y
is that a lunchbox?
Is this some kind of a joke? I thought April 1st had already passed. If you take a closer look at the image, it is merely an enlarged iPhone, with a superimposed image of a WinMo7 running on the display.
The suspect give-aways are:
- The home button
- The ear-speaker slot
etc..
@Ruthless
There are like 1,000,000 tablets and phones that look like the iPhone but miniaturized or enlarged..
Where the hell have you been?
@Technologeee I think I understand what you are saying. There are a lot of tablets out there right now which look the same as the iPhone. But can you name just of them. I want to look it up, so that I can put my mind at rest. It will also be interesting to see if Apple launches a lawsuit against either those 1,000,000+ companies, or the one you are about to name....
Just one example will do...
Hey, another iKiller. Let's see if this one sees the light of day.
Very nice !
Now if the weight is < 1kg I might just get me one of those. It looks allround usable especially with the 2gb ram and just very decent hd that most seem to skip.
But what I'd really like would be one of those snazzy ulv cpus that are several times faster than a crappy atom in there. My 7 year old pentium m notebook is way faster than an atom...
Using something with an atom is like going back in time... to the middle ages...
some one is selling this KIRF on Ebay Italy: http://iacosystem.com/blogen/2010/5/4/keepin-it-real-fake-ipad-windows-7-160-gb.html
@alexiaco
It doesn't look that think in this link
@Rockchan
Oh. I want to say 'thick', not 'think'.
@Rockchan Actually, if you look at the picture you will see that the tablet has been raised slightly to give an impression of being thick. The lower right part of the pictures gives that away.
Way to go Engadget, this was a new low from you
Hope it will ship to China soon, want got one!
I'm so glad we're getting a device like this now. Finally we get to see if all the critics of the iPad were right, when they said that a tablet would FAIL unless it had "a real OS" (as in Windows), and that it should have "a real CPU" (as in Atom), that it should be 16:9 widescreen and must have a built in web cam.
This product seems to have all the things these "experts" ridiculed the iPhone for not having, so now we get to see what the buying public actually prefer, this one or the iPad. The price seems to be very comparable to the iPad, so they'll be competing in the same market.
@Garion
Yeah, According to popular opinion they'll have to keep iiView M1Touch's bolted down to stop them flying off the shelves.
@Garion..... if the iiView or any type of pc/android type pad had the battery life of the ipad, that would be competition. if the wifi ipad had 4g a usb port, and the ability to replace batteries like pc's, i'd buy it. i'm still holding my breath as 2010 rolls out the pad/slate/tablet models. something may be brewing that has what i'm looking for but the iiView is not it
@Garion
.... You do know that this junk on the picture is going to fail, not due to the OS or its capabilities, but because it looks like a bath tub, literally.
Every single person on engadget will say the same thing: it won't sell.
I thought it was just me but ..guess it's not thing is way to thick !
UGLY + W7 = UGLIER
That thing is a boat.
No thanks...
3 hours battery life? Come on
1 inch thick? Jesus Christ
2 Lbs? Just stupid
A damn tablet is supposed to be light and thin, enough to walk around with and do your daily tasks/etc
This is just garbage...
Clearly this will not be the slate that will carry the Windows 7 flag, but you could have at least posted a real picture of the thing.
iiView, Nice try but you need to go back to the drawing board. For starters, take out the Laptop HD and use SSD, that should reduct your size and increase your battery life.
It looks like a HUGE iphone!
You can buy it here (it look different but the specification is the same):
http://iiviewpad.com/buynow.php
One of the reason why it is thicker because it actually have most of the slot that a netbook has. I have no idea why they need to put so many slot into this pad. May be they can't reduce the size so they just put more slot.
@Rockchan
You can buy battery too. It is really a netbook without keyboard.
Desktop OS =/= tablet OS
@ColinScatt : Some of us want a desktop OS.
This is a fake or a cheap chinese knock off. But feel free to attempt to buy it. Doubt you'll ever see your money again.
@britvolante : so many assumptions made. :|
@britvolante fake or knock off of what?
Having purchased both an iPad and one of the Win7 touch tablets, I can tell you that simply touch-enabling Windows does not equal to polished UI experience on iPad. Even HP and HTC have had to add their own UI layer to their products running on Windows and Window Mobile respectively to get an acceptable UI. If you crave an non-Apple tablet, then save your money for now and wait for dual-core Atoms and a better UI experience than raw Win 7 delivers.
Why does Engadget get all giddy about these "new" tablets that aren't even better than our smartphones?
How exactly do you pronounce "iiView"?
If it were running Android or webOS, with better battery life of course, this thing would be amazing.
Possibly a phone signal too.
@Johnny Rockets
There is no OS that would make this thing amazing. It is hideous, ungainly and has terrible battery life.
And when did they stop calling these things UMPCs?
