Android 2.1 upgrade for Sprint's HTC Hero leaks out
Okay, so the Moment's Android 2.1 upgrade is official -- great. But what about the Sense-powered Hero? There's no firsthand word just yet other than the promise of a Q2 release, but there is a firsthand ROM (seemingly) floating around that gives us hope we'll hear something from Hesse and crew any day now. Oh, yeah, and there is the cool part about being able to just grab the binary now and get your upgrade on without waiting, if you're as brave and impatient as we tend to be around here. Let us know how it goes, folks.

nice.
I've been running 2.1 for weeks on my Hero. And there are people that have had it a lot longer than me.
Sprint's leak? I guess not, but it works just fine. I love it.
I might find it easier to care if i didn't just drop $50 on the EVO preorder. I sat my Hero down and explained that there was nothing more that could be done, and that I would just try to make it as comfortable as possible these last few weeks.
bout time
worked for me. so far so good.
'Kay.
Update the Tatto next.
I am now having some problems. My Hero (sprint) keeps restarting/going to the green HTC start up screen. Anybody else with this issue
Faster, smoother, and more stable than any 2.1 Hero ROM that's been out so far. Highly recommended.
What about our damn ClLIQs?!
@flea925
You gotta wait for Moto to get the Blur working correctly with 2.1 and for AT&T to then approve it / add their bloatware crap to it. It has little to do with Google, HTC, Samsung, or Sprint (who are the players in the Hero and Moment's case). Its google's OS but its open source so they just release it and leave it up to the manufacturers and the carriers to do what they will with it.
Installed it and loving it. A lot less lag all around... the virtual keyboard is a lot more responsive. No regrets at all. Only downside, my location on it while at home is kinda screwy, but then again it was when I first got this phone as well and it fixed itself over a couple weeks.
Super fast and really, really cool.....but.....MMS still not working. Anyone else having this issue?
I did the update. It was not a problem. I already had 2.1 on, so the update is not as big of a deal as when I first put 2.1 on my hero.
I do love 2.1, and the dialer is much better. Now I know why it took sprint so long to put it out. The Hero is finally a usable phone. Now I may not upgrade to the EVO right away.
@sawyertt
Dude, don't say that, the Sprint gods might hear you and become angry...
Super easy install. Runs way smooth. No regrets.
Verizon's OTA update is rolling out too! My HTC Eris is now on 2.1. FINALLY!!!
Im new to smart phones. Anyone help me with downloading and installing this upgrade?
@nxn459 yeah I need help too. I'm on T-Mobile UK . Is it hard to install and will it work on my phone??
My understanding is this is only compatible with the hero running on sprint.

Everything u need to kno is on the above link. Just follow the instructions and have patience....Enjoy!
Also note that this is ONLY FOR THE SPRINT HERO so please do not try to install it on any other device.....
I installed the update and it works just fine! I am currently tethered to my phone now. Super easy setup. The whole process takes about 10 minutes. Of course, you have to go through your phone like you did the first day you got it and set up everything and re-download apps from the marketplace, but it already seems worth it. Don't be scared.
I updated my Sprint Hero ROM to Android 2.1 and it worked perfectly. Here is a site where you can find out about it.
