DirecTV takes Whole Home DVR service nationwide
DirecTV has officially launched its multi-room viewing solution, now branded Whole Home DVR service, for customers looking to manage and view their recordings from more than one set-top box in the same house. ZatzNotFunny links to the a product page that breaks down what's available while also taking shots at its cable competition and even DISH's SlingLoaded boxes. The setup still seems a bit complex to us, but since it doesn't require any new hardware and only a $3 service charge it might be just the right thing for your home. Check the video on the page or embedded after the break.

if you were involved in the beta, contact @directv on twitter and have them upgrade your account there. If you attempt to get it from the 1-800 number or online at the website, you will not be eligible unless you choose to buy the DECA equipment.
I had to do this and it worked, good luck.
So is this using RVU? I thought you had to get the newer dvr to get this functionality.
If you currently have any HD equipment (HD or HDDVR models H21, H23 and HR20, HR21, HR22, HR23) all you need to do is call DTV and have an installer put in DECA filters to your receivers if they are not currently hardwired right now. Any new HD installs going forward will ALL have the correct equipment installed to make Multi-room available to you at that time its just a matter of activating it on your account.
Wish the sat and cable company is gone and you need to just buy the hardware and paid the program you wanted to watch and service isntead of stupid contract and middle man.
They want $170 to install the DECA devices in my house when my receivers are all hardwired into my home network... on the same day FiOS sends me a $74.99/mo (for two years) no-contract triple-play offer.
Toodles, DirecTV...
@Cactus Too bad not everyone is in the Fois VERY limited footprint to be an option. But you knew this and deliberately chose to not acknowledge it. DirecTV has a much more applicable customer base than Fios does.
I've been running the beta multiroom on my two hardwired networked hd-dvrs (a HR-20 and HR-22 I believe) for a couple months now and it has been working like a champ. Everything still seems to be running as usual, so I'm not sure I really need to do anything (or get charged any additional fee). No new equipment or calls to DirecTv for me.
contact @directv on twitter or email directvcustomercare@directv.com and they will get you hooked up permanently IF you were involved in the beta!!! I went the twitter route and im on it now for 3 bucks a month!
@funkyp56 That's the point - why would I need to contact anybody at DirecTV and start paying $3/month when it works just fine right now and it's free?
i've been using the service for about 2 months as well and it's still working fine. Will I eventually be cut off from service if I don't upgrade? I would assume so, but I think I'm business as usual until they force me into it.
U-Verse just lost its edge.
*SOBS*
I am stuck with DirecTV so the wife can watch her NFL team (and I enjoy it too being in an out of market area). Been doing the PVR (ATI, BeyondTV, MythTV attempts, Windows Media Center) since 2001 but I have finally given up on Windows Media Center. My 4 extender (2 XBOX and 2 DMA2100) has been going from bad to worse and Microsoft has shown me ZERO love along with ATI abandoning ship. I hate not having choices and losing the WMC UI. Hope I can live with my new HR24s, DECA, MoCA, and existing H21 & H23 AND I am pretty sure my "Technologically Impatient" wife might be happier.
Let me get this straight. Even if I have Gig-E network and my DirecTV equipment are already wired, I still need the DECA equipment?
