HTC Mondrian with 1.3GHz Snapdragon detailed in leaked Windows Phone 7 ROM?
As expected, the official-looking Windows Phone 7 OS ROM leaked over the weekend is already yielding results. Pictured above is an image extracted from the "oemavatar.cab." Now that could be a generic Windows Phone 7 image or it could be the HTC Mondrian already seen referenced by the 100MB file. The kids at XDA-Developers have also pieced together specs from an ongoing analysis of the registry and RGU files. So far they've spotted references to a 4.3-inch WVGA (480x800) display from Optrex and a 1.3GHz QSD8650A/B Snapdragon from Qualcomm -- a chipset, you might recall, supporting multi-mode UMTS and CDMA 3G connectivity. It's also packing a digital compass but seems to lack a keyboard. Mind you, none of this is absolute but it's very very intriguing.

1.3 GHz? We have a winner!
@furquanatique If only it were 1.3GHz on Android.
@furquanatique
thats the fastest snapdragon
@furquanatique
this phone has a subtle elegance to it. Unlike the gray brick that was the nexus one, this actually looks nice. the 3 buttons make sense compared to androids 25 buttons
@Apoorva Dont worry, that's HTC Evo 4G 2.
@Apoorva What would your Android use that for.... gaming?! Nada.
@Apoorva .... Android doesn't need it:
Android 2.2 (Froyo) already runs 450% faster than 2.1
http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/05/11/exclusive-androidpolice-coms-nexus-one-is-running-android-2-2-froyo-how-fast-is-it-compared-to-2-1-oh-only-about-450-faster/
I'd say Google did a hell of good job optimizing 2.2 for the hardware.... Besides, I'd like to see stats for battery life. I think Android 3.0 + Tegra 2 is a whole lot better than WP7 + 1.3 Snapdragon.
LOL account5 u mean the one extra button kid get a life u stupid fan boy. Can't you just enjoy the beauty of this phone with out dissing any other phone.
@furquanatique
Mondrian or lightning. Decisions, decisions...
@TareG
450% faster than the slowest phone OS isnt exactly bragging rights. Ever use Android? hacked together slow experience
@TareG
I think Xbox games, zune player, office, wp7 UI, facebook integration absolutely obliterate android and its horrid media player, no games, no office, no facebook integ, no outlook, cruddy UI, and backed by an advertising company.
@engadget
Why the hell hasn't this guy been banned yet?? Obvious troll is obvious
@furquanatique yep basically. i'll be buying it if its on verizon anytime soon
@furquanatique YES! we have a winner!
Please add HD video recording, 14MP camera with autofocus and 2G RAM (extendable).
@Apoorva overclocked my nexus to 1.114Ghz still not 1.3Ghz thou :(
@joshl Coming out in a couple months no doubt at the rate HTC puts out phones.
@furquanatique Yay!
@account5 'facebook integration absolutely' Meh... anyway Why I need something I never use, or can't even view where I am?
@TareG
Ugh, everyone loves to throw around that 450% number. It's a possible 450% improvement when running NON-NATIVE code. Translation: Flash. This means that it's an improvement of 450% on something that is currently quite anemic.
I wish people would stop posting this crap, because it's going to make less informed people think that their phone will be 450% faster if they upgrade, which it won't.
@account5
Wow! What a hater troll.
@Apoorva I wonder if the "any windows phone can run android" rule applies to WP7
@TareG How can you talk about Android 3.0 when 2.2 hasn't even been released yet?
@ebgolfin
Doesnt have to be 450% faster...it doesnt have to be any faster then it already is, but less cpu usage = more battery life and that alone is worth updateing
Im not saying 450% more battery, but at least 10-20% if its possible, U know...something that will be noticeable, and anyways its a step in good direction
@furquanatique
How about a dual core cortex a8 at 1+ GHz?
@furquanatique
HTC/DELL FTW
........but which one do we buy?
@account5

BAN THIS TROLL
@Biotite It's not be talking Android 3.0... it's Nvidia's CEO:
"And so I think the second-generation Tegra has been doing incredibly well because Android is doing incredibly well. So we're going to come to market with the second-generation Tegra with the third-generation Android."
So you got it straight from the CEO: Tegra 2 smartphones will ship with Android 3.0 this Q4.
@Biotite
So this and the HD2 are basically the first Window's phones I would consider buying. This phone looks very sleek so hopefully Windows finally figured it out with Windows Phone 7. Does any one know if the HD2 will ever get WP7? Hopefully all carriers will get this phone. That would be nice!!
@TareG 1 GHz Snapdragon is already fast for a mobile device. I have an iPod touch, I use it for music and gaming. When I pick up the HTC Evo, this is how I look at that device: It has a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor which is plenty fast, it has a 4.3" screen which is huge, any bigger and the device would be too big, it runs Android which is my favorite OS, has an 8 megapixel camera which is not only good on a phone, but good for an everyday camera, front-facing camera (with video chat), very thin design, I don't need to "game" on this device, 4G connectivity, HDMI out, what more do I need?
@HipHopIsLyfe37
I'll tell you what more you'll need on top of the HTC EVO 4G:
1) A device that works outside the US.
2) A screen that doesn't turn into a mirror outdoors (e.g. Super AMOLED)
3) A processor that supports hardware-acceleration of Flash.
For all three reasons, I can't buy the EVO 4G. The Samsung Galaxy S fixes all those problems, but unfortunately looks cheap and has a fugly UI and external shell. But it's definitely on the table. I'll wait though for Tegra 2 phones with Android 3.0 to hit this holiday season.
@furquanatique I have a droid overclocked to 900 Mhz, and I never feel like I need more power. No phone actually needs 1.3 ghz imo, but correct me if I'm wrong.
@TareG
Lol really? I mean really? Owning a current sammy android device, samsung won't get my money ever again. If I want to travel outside the us, (face it, 95% of the populus doesn't leave the country more than once every handful of years) ill buy a prepaid throw away.
@TareG FOR THE LAST DAMN TIME THE EVO AND THE HD2 HAVE TFT LCD'S, NOT SUPER-AMOLEDS. Get the Evo and wait for the 2.2 - Flash, Great screen, everything you want but outside the US support
@TareG Erm, hardware acceleration of Flash is coming to most chipsets including Snapdragon. Adobe's demo was on a Nexus One....
And as for screen, AMOLED has pros and cons. Pro's being better saturation and lower power consumption. Cons being, well, sunlight.
@account5 Please show me the other 24 Android buttons, not including the keyboard, volume, and lock key.
@furquanatique It could be the new improve version of the obsession phone by htc which didn't appear before. Impression. http://j.mp/obsession-by-htc
HOT!!
@chansthename yeah, in...2008. Touch HD anyone?
@mschmidler of course I am just talking about the design here. The other specs are just awesome.
@mschmidler
Yeah I was about to say that it looked like the original touch HD. Hopefully the design changes before it's released.
@n8equalsd
that's just a generic mock up based on the rumor mill.
I hope it's true though.
This is gonna be my phone (so far)!!!!
@krishansy
However, they need to get rid of the bezels on the side.... a little..... make it just like the epic HD2
@krishansy i can tell you right now you don't have to worry about the bezel. with a 4.3 screen a bezel that size would be too much... it will be much like the evo and HD2
@krishansy
You guys and your bezel issues. Bet you could find a shrink that could talk you through your bezelphobia.
And we just passed the starting line to finish another lap folks, the Smart Phone Processor Speed Grand Prix has a long ways to go before it finishes and we will probably see many more lead changes before it's all over.
Ohhhhh, so now we're up to 1,3 GHz? And I don't even have one with 1 GHz...
Positives:
1.3 Ghz
Negatives:
1. 800x480 is going to be obsolete after Apple announces the next gen iPhone with 960 x 640 resolution. Microsoft won't be able to match that resolution for at least 3 years since I bet they didn't anticipate a resolution bump for the next version of Windows Phone.
2. No front facing camera (can windows phone 7 even support two cameras?).
Just stating my opinion .. I hope it's successful though so we can have momentum in the smartphone competition.
@JS - OK, how did you come up with the 3 years?
Oh, you made them up based on absolutely nothing? Carry on then...
@
960 x 640? who gave you this super duper insider apple info?
and did you just pick two random numbers out of a hat? what kind of ret4rded resolution is that?
