Xperia X10 Mini unboxed, dwarfed by its own peripherals (video)
Sony Ericsson wasn't kidding when they called this one the Xperia X10 Mini. We must admit, it's a cute little guy -- if you'd like to see for yourself, we have the company's own unboxing video for you after the break. This is one of the very first consumer samples that's become available, and there will be some differences between what you see here and whatever lands in the UK and US, for instance. While a USB cable, charger, and stereo headset will come standard depending on market and carrier, extras -- including remote headset, powered stereo speakers, and additional back covers besides the standard black or white -- will differ accordingly. What are you waiting for? Hop past the break to see for yourself.

looks small :(
@lars1110 i know thats what she said i saw that coming...
@lars1110
it is realllllllly small
Cute as a button!.. I mean.. HTC Wildfire!
@lars1110
No need to :( ...it has a big brother.
I remember that many people also asked for smaller versions of their favorite big screen smartphones. So I'm sure this one will find it's niche too.
@lars1110
Why are the cables/adapters so big?
@lars1110
"i saw that coming..."
Also, what she said.
@A25i lmao u got me there
@lars1110 It's not the size that matters so much as how long it can last while your mouth is using it.
Ha ha!! Nice! In age of 800x480 and 854x480 screens, it's sweet to play with a 320x240 trash. Nice toy for jackass silly sony fans...
Meh. I had faith in SE joining the android bus.
I am very dissapointed. :(
@rodolforfq why?
@Marko When I first saw the X10 I was like: OMG this is gonna kick ass. But it doesn't.
I've always loved SE. I had a couple of the W series cell phones back then. And got really happy when I saw them going for android.
But, they came with an outdated android version. The X10 was already obsolete on launch date. etc, etc.
@rodolforfq Oh no, not one of you guys again!!
If version numbers is all your tiny brain can handle, by all means, go get yourself iPhone 4.0, or even better, WinMo 7....
@fatjoe2 lol dude. Tiny brain? give me a break.
Everything I said its true and you know it.
Let's see. They showed us the X10 but didn't release it until what... 8 months later?
And why the hell will I want to stay with android 1.6 when I can have great multitasking, lots of performance increases and soooooo many more things with a newer version of android?
Android gets MUCH better with every update. And if you prefer a phone with 1.6 (while the current version was already 2.1 on launch date), then, you my friend, are the one with the tiny brain here.
Awwwww...I do like.
... and will never see the light and day in the US.
@pika2000
of day
A question for the gang:
Why doesnt AT&T or T-Mobile carry more Sony Ericcson phones? I don't think T-Mobile carries any and AT&T carries few of them. What is not to like about them?
@eirrom T-Mobile: SE TM506.
@eirrom Err, what kind of question is that? The question should be, why can't SE just release their phones in the US?
SE had been releasing their X1 and X2 straight from Sonystyle unlocked. Even the Satio and Aino were released in the US. But apparently for their more "open" Android OS handsets, they went the HTC-d0uche route by ignoring the US market altogether.
This thing should have been aborted. Cute tho non the less.
any idea how much it cost? how about the mini pro?
so there are N97 mini and now experia X10 mini.I really wonder do we really need this so-called mini devices?
@jacobian64 Sure, currently I have a dumbphone... and on the other hand I don't want a hugephone. That leaves not a lot of choice if I'd like to upgrade to something running a proper operating system with apps. This is apparently 83x50 (information which, by the way, would've been nice in the article, but it was pretty easy to find) - not a bad size at all.
Not sure it's actually a good phone apart from the size, though. (Android 1.6? Really?) Hopefully a few more small phones will come out so there's better choice.
@xxxsam It'll get upgraded, but the big thing kabout SE Andoid phone is that they make up for the horrible stock Android media player with Sony's own Mediascape.
My new standard = 4"+ , so i will pass.
@Ahmed Alzayani
I like your icon. I'm waiting for something like that in an Android flavor...
@(Unverified) Errr, the X10 is not even released in the US, let alone the X10 mini.
@hated one
excuse me! heard of unlocked prices!?!?
@hated one
Don't worry. The X10 and X10 mini are not released for the US, so you won't have anything to complain about.
@nicholasphan Unlocked prices? Unlocked Nexus One, $529, available now, with the latest Android OS. Really, I understand non-subsidized prices are obviously more expensive than subsidized price, but the Nexus One set the bar, $529 for a super phone. So charging $600-$700 for a smartphone won't jive anymore. But then again, SE is not releasing this in the US, so I guess nothing to complain about.
I don't like tiny screens. I like to watch video on my mobile.
@hated one I don't have current price, but last year Apple were selling unlocked 3GS for $800. It'll be cheaper now, but still in the same price region. There's no point comparing subsidised to unlocked prices.
@hated one
700$ is without contract.. Buy an iphone without contract and its 1000$ here in Sweden..
The X10 mini cost under 400$ without contract here, I would like to call that cheap, the old and bad HTC Magic (Mytouch) is more expensive....
The pre-order price in Europe are $300-325 unlocked and unsubsidised (incl. 25% VAT)
Small yes, but it's still not this small:

@TheAngryIntern I fail at embedding pictures
@pika2000
SE phones have kinda always had higher average selling prices
I think HTC have totally awesome and great phones, but to be honest they just don't feel or look 'special'. I would be willing to pay more for something that stands out.
I played with a friend's and the screen size blew my iPhone's away. It sucks the 4G iPhone will probably have the same screen size with higher resolution, because I realized screen real estate matters too. Touch screen response wasn't as great though. Maybe that's just Android.
They should make a bigger version.
Perhaps with a version of Android that isn't obsolete.
@Johnny Rockets
Wow.
@hated one
Where I live you are not allowed to live in an electronics store. Security will be pretty mad.
Having a hard deciding this over N97mini.
Plus X10mini Android
Plus N97mini Free Nokia maps, better battery management, better hardware?! better camera...
Most importantly pricing: what's the price for the X10mini vs N97mini? Do let me know what you guys think, I think I'm better of with the mini...
How About an iphone mini?And of course i don't mean an Iphone Shuffle , with no screen!!!
@hated one
Hi cockhead, do you know what "2 YEAR contract agreement" means?
Here in Canada we just get the invoice nothing more...:)
I have a x10i and find it funny the box is bigger than the x10's box, and why did they not give covers and speakers away with the x10i in the uk. Buggers.
mini will attract those who does not want to run around with a brick in their pockets or girls who wants a tiny but very clean and good looking phone. Camera is good also!
@pika2000 "Superphone" is just what Google likes to call it. It is no different from any other smartphone, so don't go complaining about a "smartphone" being more expensive than a "superphone"
