Google's Larry Page says there's 'something wrong' if your Android phone's battery doesn't last all day
Cellphones and batteries. It's an eternal struggle, but one that Google's Larry Page says should at least be manageable. That topic arose at the recent Google Zeitgeist forum, where Page responded to a question about battery life on Android phones by saying that he actually found it to be "pretty good," and that "if you are not getting a day, there is something wrong." That prompted Google CEO Eric Schmidt to chime in and explain that the main culprit for excessive battery use on the phones is the transmit / receive circuit, which he says some apps are "not particularly smart about" using.

So far guys we're being totally owned by a battery, man!
It really is a saddening fact to acknowledge that while everything's has changed since 90s - like the industry came up with a proper hardware capable of running real mobile OSes which have fruited by this time - this overlooked sucker still brings us all down. And I do believe a company which would do some real progress in this field will ultimately earn our eternal gratitude not talking about obvious monies.
Oh well, hopefully we won't be old grandpas and grandmas by that time.. I mean, come on Steve, God, whomever, we don't need them faster processors and bigger brighter screens and new data speeds if we're stuck with the same battery tech.. Invest and innovate in this particular field, bokay?
I installed the pre-release of android 2.1 on my HTC Hero and my early estimate is two to three times the battery life over 1.5.
Keep it switched off... save the battery... buy a better phone.
A normal person using Android OS will quickly exhaust the battery whereas, the same person using iPhone OS would have it running for days on a single charge.
My Nexus one has never lasted a full day. Maybe Google should look into that. And I want my phone to perform as expected on a day's charge, so no I will not be disabling any synchronization else I may as well not even be using the darn phone! Google needs to stop talking and start doing.
is that the anarchy symbol in the background on the chalkboard.... hehe looks super similiar
Just get a G1. No matter how you use it, it won't last a full day(24h).
My battery on my MyTouch was lasting 3-4 hours, but then I loaded up a CyanogenMod ROM (5.0.7) and now it lasts 7-8 under heavy use.
