Analyst: Apple selling more iPads than Macs, at the moment
So there's no question that Apple is selling a ton of iPads, but would you have guessed that it's actually selling more iPads than all Mac sales combined? That's the case, at least at the moment, according to RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky, who says that Apple is currently moving about 200,000 iPads per week, compared to 110,000 Macs -- though it still trails the iPhone, which is apparently racking up sales of 246,000 per week. Of course, we are just talking about analyst estimates here, and things could potentially swing back into the Mac's favor once the quarterly totals are added up. If true, however, it'd sure be a whopper of a milestone -- one that we'd no doubt be hearing plenty more about in, say, three weeks time.

Yeah!!! Take that, Apple!
oh, wait ...
@Meekermoloko Macs sales even trailing iPad... that's the end, admit it.
@Meekermoloko Not sure if they should be bragging about that...
@Meekermoloko
I just hope Apple dosen't forget about the Macs. I think Android is better than iPhone (currently), but Macs are truly superior computers.
@artemis360 Why are they (macs) better?
@Meekermoloko
I dont care if Apple is richest today than yesterday.
Its obvious that people is buying the ipad because it is cheaper than a macbook and every other apple mac products.
ipad = $499 (basic model)
Mac Mini = $599
Macbook = $999
iMac = $1199
GO ANDROID
@GmanC None really is better. It's all subjective, of course. I like the design of Macs and beauty of OSX, but I also like the customization of a Windows computer and sleekness of 7.
And have you seen 10.04? That is one versatile Linux distro.
@Beatnik
I highly doubt people are buying the iPad b/c they don't have the cash for a mac.
They are completely different categories. Thats like saying, I didn't want to buy a 62" plasma tv, instead I bought a Microwave!
Trolls will be trolls
Congrats to Apple.
I mean it! But "all Mac sales combined" means in the US of course, not all Macs worldwide. I wonder why the media never gets that there is a slight difference between the USA and worldwide. I see it in the news all the time.
But now back to Apple news...
@N900
Exactly, to some it's about the design and others its the software. Personally I'm not sure I could manage without windows from a software point of view so I'll stick with my lappy. Almost bought a MacBook pro a couple of years ago but opted for the higher spec windows laptop instead. I'm not sure whether I made the right choice since you can use windows on the Mac anyway.
Since my first apple product ( iPhone ) and now I have the ipad I have realized that specs mean nothing.
@Sled Lol
Tim: Hey Joe, did you catch last night's episode of Lost?
Joe: Yeah Tim, I did.
Tim: Well what happened?
Joe: Preheat, Popcorn, Pizza, Frozen Entrees, 60 seconds.
Tim: Uhhhh....
@htd er. Mac sales are estimated to be up almost 50% compared to last year...so the overall picture for Apple looks incredibly positive!
Brilliant business analysis there, apple selling over 400,000 iPhones and ipads a week and you somehow see that as bad. Never run a business mate, you don't have a clue :-)
I'm sincerely concerned that iPhone OS will be the death of OS X.
@Uncontrol
Apple will continue to develop OSX but it will no longer be their priority. Their efforts moving forward are the mobile and internet space. So take that how you will.
@GmanC I've learned that, too. Apple is awesome at optimization!
@Meekermoloko
Yeah, that's about right. Those are peak sales though - the big question is how sustainable they are.
Have you seen the projected sales numbers from the source page? 50% of all iPads are expected to be sold in the US (after international launch). Why do you think that is?

@artemis360
I've a feeling that Mac Laptops in their current Intel / OS X form will come to an end. Future Macintosh Laptops may run on some form of ARM proccessor (dual ARM's with desktops) with a more advanced version of the IPhone OS.
Sounds far fetched but it's possible.
That's 110,001, since I just dropped the cash on a 13" MBP. :)
@Meekermoloko Yeah! And Apps load faster on an Android Pho.... oh no they dont. Google fail was a little cringe worthy. At their own IO event no less.
@GmanC
You can put Windows on a Mac; it's like two computers in one, and Windows easily works great on a Mac. Can't say that for a Windows machine and though I have a new Sony Z I'm too scared to Hackintosh it.
@Sled
Wow, you can watch shows and movies on you microwave?? Sweet!
@artemis360 I predicted apple would give up on macs and be a consumer mobile device company ages ago . I hope they don't - I love reading posts from mac fanboys saying how awesome osx is despite only running iLife and safari (before they realise what a pos that is and switch to chrome) then admitting the ipad does most of everything they need a computer for. Says it all.
@artemis360 Superior to what?
@Urrl Bullcrap. Windows on a mac runs the same as on a PC because A MAC IS JUST A F%#+*^# PC.
@Sled I would think that people bought iPads simply because all they needed was a browser and email and a Mac or Windows system would be overkill.
The big question is, are Mac sales down?
@artemis360 Just your opinion, Mac user. Me windows user, I can't stand a second working with a crappy 1 button mouse. To me, Mac sucks ass.
Take that!
@ajwoodhouse You're right in saying that many of the fanboys don't really use OS X for its strengths, but don't forget about the entire music industry, graphic designers and illustrators, independent filmmakers, and Pixar.
@GmanC
Because they are magical and amazing and with every Apple device comes a touch of inner sunshine for the user.
@SeeKo ..I don't know what you meant by that but there are around 300mil legal and counted people living in u.s. That's a large amount of people and to think that mayb half is able to afford one well that's a lot of sales. China and India count for 2/6 of the worlds population but few are able to buy one.
@EL MAESTRO
You understood me wrong.
The table shows that it's expected that half of all iPads will be sold in the USA. More than 300 mill potential customers live there. Sure. But in the wealthy industrial nations alone, let's say the OECD states (excluding USA) live 850 mill more. Why is it projected that they don't buy as many iPads as Americans? I'm really interested. I would like to know why that is.
@MarkAnderson
Is this like how the Wii was a fad. Or how the iPhone was a fad and sales would drop after all the koolaiders bought theirs?
I suspect May 28 will only cement the iPad further into the global mind.
Now Mark, remember I'm generally supportive of your views on the tablet category and ergonomics. Not warring okay
@GreenOrc one button? are you in the stone age, troll?
@Meekermoloko These are staggering statistics for Apple but I firmly believe that they missed a major opportunity by overpricing the iPad. I understand that the rich man will pay a premium to own the latest products to roll freshly off the Apple production line but if the iPad was priced more favourably, then they could have seen an absolute explosion in demand and achieve mass market adoption. Could be a PR stunt indeed. iPad Opinions. http://j.mp/apple-tablet-experience
@Cy Starkman
I don't believe I used the word 'fad', Cy. The iPad will continue to sell, there's no doubt about that, I'm just not sure it can sustain that sales rate.
I could be wrong though. Time will tell.
They're probably selling more iPod Touches than iPads, and iPod nanos than touches, and more shuffles than nanos.
So Nanos it'll be, folks.
@Meekermoloko
Hi, guys, tell you a truth, Apple's products really expensive, they make the profit even the half of the sell price. In fact,,the Chinese workers who assembilies the iPad only make 11 dollars for their boss, and they got less
@N900
I wish more people shared our thoughts. That's why I have a W7 desktop for raw computing power, a MacBook Pro for simplicity on-the-go, an Android smartphone for mobile device customization, and an iPad for the in-between moments around the house.
@bravokiloromeo I wish more people had as much money as you. Specifically me.
@Meekermoloko
Next thing you know Apple announces a Macbook with iphone OS installed on it. That'll be the end of it!!!
@DokiDokiPanic
Buzz: Pixar uses OSX for lightweight/presentation things, it's heavy lifting is done on the Linux/Linux side with MENV and Renderman. If OSX went away, they would care less.
Donald, today is Goggle Day. Let's not try to go against the grind, okay?
@Wiizer
GOOGLE!
I do love my Goggle Days, though...
@Wiizer
Every single top story on the home page is Google-related. You can always use the no-apple/ipad filter.
Since when do readers/commentators dictate what a commercial blog posts?
@Wiizer Goggle? Against the grind? What is this? I don't even.
@Almo
You could've chosen to ignore my comment, just as I could've chosen to ignore this obvious Apple-KoolAid post, but here we are! Yakkin' it up!
@Almo I think he was being witty.
Yeah because all non google news isn't worth posting because google made a few announcements.
Moron
@pavelbure
"Yeah because all non google news isn't worth posting because google made a few announcements."
See? Even an idiot understands what I meant!
