Now just what do you mean? According to the post, Apple "has certainly had plenty of prime material since then." I was hoping someone else would know what he's referring to.
Exactly. Go back and read the text from the 1984 advert and you'll see that Apple has indeed become The Man.
Today, we celebrate the first glorious anniversary of the Information Purification Directives. We have created for the first time in all history, a garden of pure ideology. Where each worker may bloom secure from the pests of contradictory and confusing truths. Our Unification of Thoughts is more powerful a weapon than any fleet or army on earth. We are one people, with one will, one resolve, one cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death and we will bury them with their own confusion. We shall prevail!

@Matt314 That's what Microsoft should do actually...the irony of it all :) They still have that 1984 commercial on youtube, and Google yesterday made a crack about it at their conference :)
@plyx Yeah it does. In fact, almost as much as Vista. "Hey look at this snap feature! It take forever to do, but once you do, you have two windows at weird sizes". "Erm... expose... and it doesn't resize the windows so you can keep working." ...
Now the Apple Stores are doing the rest of the switching.
Acting like MS is the big bully on the block just doesn't really seem realistic anymore, not when Apple's expected to pass them in Marketcap this year.
@Greg7388 I disagree. I use the snap feature all of the time and I think it's great. Perfect for drag and drop and file organization. Of course I would only recommend it on a widescreen monitor.
Have you actually used Windows 7 for more than 10 mins?
I used the snap feature all the time. It's a really easy wasy to do side-by-side comparisons. Just because you don't have a use for it doesn't mean it's not useful.
Apple and OSX have played an big part in shaping the tech market and generally improving the quality of operating systems and hardware we have today. Windows 7 is a great OS, but it wouldn't be what it is without the competition that Apple has provided.
If you can't cop to that, you're just a fanboy of a different breed.
@plyx I'm not quite sure that will matter to Apple. They're quite good with the half truths. Their "why you'll love a Mac" page states that every Mac comes with the "latest technology, processors ..." I don't know anyone who is going to tout the latest Macbook bump(2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo) as the latest technology.
Fanboys on both sides of the fence are having their panties in a bunch because Apple. may pass Microsoft in market value. Apple fanboys are wetting their shorts at the prospect, and Microsoft fanboys are crying in denial.
In the end, if you don't have stock in neither, who gives a shit?
It's not that. Jobs thinks the iPad approach is the way forward. So he doesn't want anything about how the Mac liberates you from the problems of other PCs to confuse their message. They want you to believe that only the iPad liberates you from the problems of other PCs.
There's a new messiah in town. They don't need or want the old one anymore.
@jedi but the iPad is SOOO useless to me, i cant think of a single reason why i would ever buy one especially now that i can play PS1 games on my big beautiful HD2. app store games dont compare to FFIX
Those why you will love a mac reasons are lame... * It’s designed to be a better computer. Read more * It’s packed with innovative features. Read more * It features the latest technology. Read more * It’s designed with the environment in mind. Read more
Seriously? Hundreds of thousands of viruses for Win 7, and zero on the Mac? You don't think that would be worth mentioning if you were in Apple's place? Yeah obviously it's not because there's nothing to make fun of.
@Jack "It is now clear that the Mac OS is increasingly becoming a target for the malicious activity that is more commonly associated with Microsoft and various Unix-based operating systems. Symantec believes that as the popularity of Appleis new platform continues to grow, so too will the number of attacks directed at it."
@Jack lol wow you really just compared the screen size of a tablet to a phone ... and by big on the ipad you mean no where near the size of my 120" projection tv right?
Wrong. Marketshare has nothing to do with it. You think you can explain why there hasn't been a single virus - not ONE - ZERO - in the 9 years that OS X has been on the market?
Go ahead, explain that. I DARE you. Even with people TRYING to create viruses, nobody can do it. There's a very simple reason why, but I'm not sure that you're smart enough to understand it.
And no, it's not market share. If it were, then everything else being equal, Apple would have 10% of the viruses that Windows does too. But they don't. They have ZERO viruses. Let me know when that sinks in.
And YES marketshare has EVERYTHING to do with it, why develop a virus that wont effect many people at all and YES there are viruses for macs... And look at that you have know point of your own so you throw an insult and pretend that makes you look smart when you have no idea what youre talking about
No, what you don't know about is what the word "virus" means. A virus is self contained, self starting and doesn't need to ask permission to destroy your data. It's also contagious.
That list you linked to? Those are TROJANS. They require USER INTERACTION. Every system in the universe, no matter what it is, is vulnerable to TROJANS. That's because it relies on the stupidity of the user to click a link and then give it admin access to run before it can do anything.
Viruses don't need permission. There are hundreds of thousands of VIRUSES for Windows 7, and ZERO for OS X.
Let Apple keep gaining market share with their desktops and laptops. I can promise you, you'll see a huge influx in the amount of malware for Apple computers. Whether it be on OSX or OSXI, it will happen.
Nol. market share has NOTHING to do with it. You have not yet been able to explain why there are ZERO viruses for the Mac.
Not ONE.
ZERO.
Z-E-R-O.
That is not because of market share. If market share had anything to do with it, Macs would have the same percentage of viruses relative to their market share vs. Windows.
But they don't. They have ZERO. Let me know when you can wrap your head around that.
Hey did you read that article you linked? Let me quote you something from that article:
"OSX/Leap-A is a Trojan horse, and not a virus or worm, because it requires user interaction (the user has to receive a file via iChat, and manually choose to open and run the file contained inside)."
USER INTERACTION. You have to give it PERMISSION TO RUN.
That is not a virus. Furthermore, it's not in the wild, and it never was. Feel free to try again though.
@Jack WHAT!?!?! you have been given multiple examples of Mac viruses and you fanboy blinders are keeping you from acknowledging them in anyway ... here is MORE
@Jack how do you think you get a virus on a PC? you click it and allow it to install! you interact with it, you cant actually be this dumb man please tell me this is all some game and youre just messing with everyone
@eyerot And OSX wouldn't be what it was if they didn't have to differentiate themselves from Windows, so what's your point? In theory we can just keep going back years and years of competition and say It's all thanks to Xerox that Windows helped make OSX which helped make Windows 7 which helped make Chrome OS, which helped make the God phone. In truth there truly is one factor leading to all these innovations in OS, and that's money. You make a better product to make money. When noone else makes a better product that can potentially outsell yours then you stop innovating.
@Jack i cant even believe you are this dumb kid, its almost depresing to talk to such an inept fanboy, you have been given example of VIRUSES on a Mac and pretend they arent real because that would mean your god is lying to you... "Leap.A installs itself differently depending on the rights of the logged in user. If the user is logged in as an administrator, Leap.A installs itself to the /Library/InputManagers/ directory."
INSTALLS ITSELF AKA VIRUS... stop proving how ignorant you are, save face and walk away like you did with the HD2 v iPad comparison
@SteveyAyo 6 years on a mac. 0 virus software installed. 0 viruses. have 3 macs at home, tech support for 9 macs at work and at least 15 macs owned by friends & fam.
"depends on the rights of the user". Did you not see that part, even thought it was right there in black and white? Did it not occur to you that that is exactly what I've been talking about this whole time?
Viruses don't give a shit what your rights are. That's how they can get in and destroy your system without your permission, because they don't NEED your permission. What you think is a "virus" on the Mac is completely limited by the permissions it is GIVEN. How can you still not be getting this? it really isn't that hard to understand. If I don't give that "virus" PERMISSION to get to my system, IT CAN'T GET TO MY SYSTEM. Is that not clear enough? Do you want me to say it again?
I like how you call me a "kid" when I easily have 25 years more Mac experience than you do. You hate Apple so much you can't even see straight, which I'm assuming is how you keep missing all these details that are not only in the same articles you're linking to, but here in my responses as I have to keep quoting them back to you. Because you keep missing them, or ignoring them which is more likely.
And really, you're going to bring up the HD2 to iPad comparison? Wow. Allow me to refresh your memory as to what was actually said:
"iPad is SOOO useless to me, i cant think of a single reason why i would ever buy one especially now that i can play PS1 games on my big beautiful HD2."
YOU were comparing the HD2 to the iPad. Not me. YOU were the one who conveniently left out the fact that the iPad's screen is twice as big in your own comparison of the two devices. Are you going to deny what you said now to try to save face? Go for it, it'll be hilarious.
Who cares? Most PCs end up in Banks anyway. And in that market there is only one option... Microsoft Windows on Bland Beige boxes. Macs are not an option because the buyer has no negotiating power.
I know it's to complex for you to understand, just trust me, having multiple suppliers vying for your business is a good thing. But there's only one OS to choose from: Windows.
Macs have always been better, they've just been too expensive, mostly because Apple just doesn't compete at the low end of the market. Their cheapest Mac (desktop) is about 600 bucks and doesn't come with a monitor! (Mac Mini)
The fact that Apple keeps coming out with hit after hit after hit, all based on Mac OS X software, should keep Ballmer up at night.
Here's a thought for the company with no new ideas: What happens when everyone has iPads and Android based Tablets? How do you get a) Windows and b) Office on those devices.
;)
Have fun with that.
By the way, if you have any idea what a DIVIDEND is, you know MS doesn't really have plans for growth in the future, just more of the same BS.
@Jack "depends on the rights of the user" you want to finish that out? that means that depending on if an admin or user is logged in it will install to different places, it doesnt ask if you want to install it. It installs to a certain place depending on what rights the user has to the computer... you are so dumb stop pretending this isnt real, IT IS
MACS HAVE VIRUSES, but based on marketshare not many are created/released because it would be a WASTE OF TIME, kind of like talking to you
No No i asked if the iPad could play FFIX, i was talking about gaming on both devices not size. And again ill ask can the iPad play FFix? because if not i dont care how big the screen is, its useless to me. Never once did i compare the sizes, merely stated that the HD2 has a large and beautiful screen.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
I guess they realize that Windows 7 doesn't leave a lot of room to make fun of.
@plyx
Now just what do you mean? According to the post, Apple "has certainly had plenty of prime material since then." I was hoping someone else would know what he's referring to.
@plyx They should go back to those 1984 ads but make themselves the "Man" now.

@Greg7388 I'm running a 6 year old computer and have no such problems. Stop using a cheap laptop from 1999.
As is most often the case, i think your computer has a "101 User error"
Highly recommend you replace user and press any key

@plyx There would still be more than enough to make fun of, but the ads have simply become OLD. They have been made for like 3 years.
@Wesscoast
Please, when apple makes more than microsoft, it will be because of the iPod (all 8 variants), the iTouch and iPhone and the iPad.
Mac PCs will never sell more than Windows PCs

Virus makers want to cause the biggest trouble so why would they target a lesser market share at all? Its not directly proportional.
Firefox only started having its own major noticable specific problems once it surpassed 30% market share.
