Android 2.2's Froyo goodness hitting the Nexus One already? (update: just press so far)
Sometimes it's good to be the chosen child, the special one, and in the eyes of Google the Nexus One is that special phone -- at least for the moment. As such it seems to have been given a special treat: access to Froyo, earlier than expected. TechCrunch's MG Siegler is reporting that his handset received Android 2.2 overnight. So far we're not hearing too many other reports of folks seeing this update, but that could be thanks to everyone sleeping off a week of exciting announcements. Sound off in comments if you're waking up to this frosty, low-calorie snack.
Update: We're not sure how this is being rolled out, as hardly anyone is seeing updates, but via Droidnytt we found a number of reports on Twitter that people are indeed seeing the update.
Update 2: Count us among the lucky few who just received the OTA Froyo update, to our original T-Mobile-based device.
Update 3: We've done some additional investigation, and as far as we can tell, Google is only updating review Nexus Ones that had been provided to the press -- not off-the-shelf phones. We'll stay on this and let you know more as soon as we do.

*Quickly puts N1 into dock and turns on wifi* Come oooooon babbyyyy!!
@gargle
Waiting for Froyo on my Nexus One, no system update for me at the moment.
Come on Google, we want Froyo.
I will have to wait few month to get Froyo.... or just root my HTC Desire..
@gargle Oh Google, you tease.
So unfair I get my EVO in two weeks and I don't know how long I have to wait. Let's hope I can root it and get it ASAP
@gargle Wait.. did ANYone else get this update or just one guy from techcrunch?
@gargle It's real: http://twitter.com/cchilds
There are others too, if you search.
Yeah, still nothing with me in the UK either :(
@gargle
I didn't get 2.2 yet but I got the ability to report app crashes to dev already...only feature so far..sadly
@gargle haven't got it yet :(
@Dking7
Months? We Droid users are gonna have to wait a year!
I got that on my Droid too.
@viditbhargava How about the AT&T Nexus One? Anyone got that updated?
@Beatnik
Same...
@gargle you can hear a feather fall ina room full of people who criticized the N1
Now the owners are getting froyo weeks or maybe even months faster than everyone else
@scioncas wrong, the fact that the n1 gets it first changes nothing.
@Randazzo
Have fun waiting on your carrier to decide you deserve the update.
@gargle XDA forums just got the direct link!!! I downloaded the 44mb patch just now, waiting for others to try it before I do. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686326&page=88
@gargle I was on zOMG -- when this one was announced by TC, although it was confirmed that the update was only for N1's that's on the official shelf of google. I guess we need to wait just a bit more. Opinions. http://j.mp/froyo-android-impressions
@gargle: Downloaded and Installed from the direct link. Works as advertised.
Let's hope we can get an update.zip today for those of us who don't want to wait for their turn to recieve the OTA!
@ArcanaXVIII Very much this! That's what I did for the last update... "Impatience" is my middle name. Which is strange, as "Danger" is also my middle name. Anyway, I'm rambling...
@ArcanaXVIII Ditto. If i get the update I'll find a way to get it on the Internetz pronto
@ArcanaXVIII
According to Koush, it's on ROM Manager now. It's not rooted yet, though.

Straight from google's servers!
boom!
headshot.
@BigJayDogg3 intervention thermal fmj
@BigJayDogg3: This made my morning. +1 to you sir.
I'd love some FroYo right now because it's late and I've got the munchies really bad :)
Wow, makes me wanna buy one now... except Google seems to be phasing it out everywhere =/
@brrip It's not Google, well not entirely. Google stopped selling it on the web, but the rest has been the carriers such as Verizon (and Sprint?) canning their plans.
@juanvaldez well it's being "replaced by better phones", but i'm one of those strange people that really likes the build of the nexus one. i think it is sexehhh.
@brrip wrong info, Google is simply stopping their online sales and that's exactly the reason that made me jump up and order mine last week, don't want no stinking carrier lock or logo on this sexy beast.
@brrip The N1 isn't being phased out or killed, the web store just wasn't a runaway success. It still has top of the line hardware, it's still supported (as you can see from this post), they're just trying to figure out how to sell it.
If you want one, get one. It IS Android, straight from Google.
@spielnicht
Exactly, why people is bashing the Nexus One?, at the moment it is the #2 best phone AVAILABLE on the market at THIS moment with twin brother the HTC Desire.
Right Now #1 is HTC Incredible, but not for much, because EVO 4G will take it and Samsung Galaxy S is also coming in the future together with MANY other HTC and other brands.
The problem with these other phones is that they are locked with their carriers and band frequencies, I live outside U.S.A. and just ordered my Nexus One which I love. If Google wouldnt be selling the Nexus One unlocked, my second best option would be to buy the Motorola Droid which at this moment is a little dated.
Nexus One was released on January 5, 2010. IT IS NOT OLD.
The BEST thing of the Nexus 1? It is the FIRST android phone receiving the NEW updates.
Now Google, I also want to see and buy the PAID APPS on the market, not just the FREE apps.
@Beatnik erm, thanks for ranting, but who in this thread was actually bashing the nexus one?
@Beatnik
I agree. The N1 is still a pretty sexy beast.
When EVO 4G is released, something tells me that will stick up as #1 for a while. Neither Dell Lightning or Galaxy S beat the EVO 4G when compared specs to specs. Can't wait to get it myself.
@Beatnik I wouldn't say it's even in the top 5. I've had it since it came out, and there are major issues with touch on the screen. Drives me nuts; I'm mostly just waiting for the new iPhone to come out to dump this thing. If it wasn't for the touch issue it would be ranked up there, but there are better Android phones out there.
@Brian Well, if thats true looks like you're leaving at a time when the platform adoption is exploding, the advances are exciting, and people are waking up to not wanting the same handset and platform as everyone else; one that looks the same and behaves the same. It's great for complete integration but at a cost of individuality and choice.
@spielnicht Google hasn't stopped online sales yet, as I just ordered one yesterday. I know they plan on stopping, but they haven't done so yet. I can't wait to get mine and replace my 3GS.
I took the leap and proud of it. Another Guy at metropc had one said was going to trade-up for the HD2? But N1's 3.7" sweet screen convinced me N1 was the beast. N1 2.1 & waiting!
cool !
i'm selling my lousy samsung galaxy and buying N1, and ecent news only make me more sure about doing it :)
@tareqhs
The Galaxy S is the best Android phone on the market. Period. Once you taste Super AMOLED, there's no turning back.
However, I want a Super AMOLED Google phone, not a Samsung phone. Samsung crippled its OS, and I bet it won't be getting its updates quite as fast. Also, its camera is a disappointment and doesn't even have a flash. Way to waste the best screen on the market, Samsung.
@TareG no flash on the camera = not the best
@alamoe It's the best phone by a landslide (4x more polygon power than Snapdragon, the ONLY Super AMOLED Android, 4.3", front camera........etc)
Except for that camera.
The thing is, even if I flash Froyo on it, the camera will still be flashless (not to mention the plasticy look Samsung adorned its beautiful internals with)...
So now, I need to wait for another Super AMOLED Android... if Samsung allows this to happen.
@TareG Wait..Best Android phone only because of Super AMOLED. Nonsence.
@TareG
I agree that the galaxy S is a nice phone,but this is Samsung we're talking about. I still have bitter memories of their last iPhone killer, the Instinct.
@TareG
Not to mention the ugliest skin I've ever known. He was talking about the original Samsung galaxy. Had one too before I got my nexus one.
@TareG
You sir, are delusional if you think just one feature makes the `best phone on the market`.
Yes, AMOLED is badass, I don't argue that. But have you tried, or at least seen, the custom Android (TouchWiz) that Samsung puts on their phones? When compared to EVO, Galaxy S is missing the better camera with flash, the mobile hotspot feature, HDMI out, and WiMax (which believe it or not, it's an important feature for SOME).
Oh and btw, Galaxy S carries a 4" screen, not 4.3", kthx.
