Watch phones
clearly haven't hit the mainstream yet, though a resurgence of Dick Tracy may very well turn that around. Given that we're probably years, if not centuries, away from that happening, it's up to niche import shops like
Alibaba to bring us goods like these. The GPS 800G -- delivered by none other than Shanghai Zhiyuan Vacuum Electric Company, of course -- manages to handle time telling, texting, GPS routing and even emergency calling. Oh, and normal calling as well. Looks as if you'll need to ping the supplier in order to get a lock on pricing, but we can't say with a straight face that it'll be worth your while.
Yeah, nothing like texting on a 1" screen....pass.
@Siefe
Or, and wrap ur head around this... you can call the person.
Fun Fact: Nothing typed by someone's thumbs has ever been important.
@A25i what if you were to be kidnapped: you awake in the boot of a car to find that still had your phone/watch. Your captor would be able to hear any attempt at a voice call so your ability to write text messages would be very important to alert the authorities. In this (admittedly unlikely) scenario what you write with your thumbs may well be the most important communication of your life.
on a serious note people like to text if a device impairs this you're cutting off segments of your market it's nice to have the option... and I'm just realising how much this parallels the whole flash argument
@jtanz0 Or you can whisper
IMHO these wristwatch-phone-gps-devices are a perfect fit for athletes / explorers who want to stay connected while being active. The phone / texting / browsing / gps features should be minimalistic and well implemented for their potential use.
@Tohe I got interruppted during my jogging by a friend who needs help moving some stuff. :(
If you can wear it on your wrist, they blew it.
I'm going to predict that within the next couple of years there will be a hit watchphone with Android. Voice recognition by Google is pretty darn good, That will make text input and phone control relatively easy.
...i'm in trouble! come pick me up, KITT!
One step closer to a comm badge!
This is exactly what I would like to have. Leave the computing to tablet pads.
I'm more likely to duct tape my HTC Desire to my wrist than ever buy a watch phone ... at least then I'll have a decent hand(/wrist) set
nice idea but yeah about sort of text entry....my concern is, the price...
i have had 2 watch phones just for the hell of it the basic handwriting recognition on the little 1.8" screen is not that bad but over-all still not polished enough for a mainstream market place still i see promise in them and would try a version or in the future
I'd be happy with just the screen in a high quality stainless steel casing & band. It's impossible to find a high quality OLED or compariable quality screen watch.
Depending on the price, I think this would be ideal for kids who aren't responsible enough for a cell. Most kids wear a watch without losing it but they all seem to lose cell phones left and right. I say make them kid friendly and see what happens.
I use my iPad for everything now, I hardly use my phone anymore for web browsing, messenging, email or youtube/vimeo, its just too slow. I would love this just to have a phone without even thinking about needing to grab it, though it would need some type of speaker phone, you'd look like idiot holding your wrist up to your ear. I hate things in my pockets anyway.
It looks like a GPS tracker in watch shape, very cute.
