LG Vu Plus coming to AT&T on June 6 for $150
So that Vu Plus we'd tipped for a June 6 release has just gone official, and needless to say, it's not your daddy's Vu. The most notable change is the addition of a landscape slider QWERTY keyboard, but one of the Vu's hallmark's -- support for AT&T's FLO-based Mobile TV service -- carries over for $9.99 a month with a free 7-day trial subscription. It's got a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, a 3 megapixel autofocus cam with video recording, AT&T Video Share compatibility, and microSD expansion if the phone's internal 50MB just aren't cutting it. Look for it to hit shelves for $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Follow the break for the full release.

uhhh....woot?
@Snarf101
i would have loved this.. two years ago
@Snarf101 sneaking it in before the iPhone announcement, too bad they missed the boat on the EVO4g release... although that doesnt matter to people on family plans and bundle deals, sprint doesnt offer TV, internet and home phone
Looks like a brick
@OMJ thicker than one
Is it me or does the phone looks massively thick?
@ChansteR
exactly my thoughts! the big mac of sliders?
@ChansteR
Crazy thick!
That's a thick ass phone
this is for 5 year olds dude.
A whole 50 mb's of storage!! Yay!
@BecauseItsNotGoogle According to the brochures, they are promoting its media capabilities and download speeds. So I would expect more storage.
Another failboat launching from AT&T. Why, if I didn't know better, I'd say they were trying to force their customers into the iPhone.
@PrezBO
this phone is meant for the kids of parents with iPhones. It's a quick messaging device.
@PrezBO That IS their intent. Why do you think almost every phone from AT&T requires Internet now? A friend of mine summed it up perfectly. "Why pay that much and not have the 'best' that they have offered." I'm pretty sure they made deals with Apple to sell a certain amount of iPhones. And they force you that way by demanding every phone worth getting requires something they may not want.
We already know the first vu was a flop now I have to try and justify paying the same price for this useless piece of junk with a feature that doesn't work as a blackberry or others? Man I love my job haha
@circarider 1st LG Vu was a success, best touchscreen phone under $50 for casual users. Obviously this isn't a smartphone so servicing it will be cheaper. I don't know how this will keep with other subsidized phones like Samsung Impression or Mythic at a higher price.
Again NO 3.5mm jack!!!
@Kerme
My opinion that the vu sucks is from the numerous problems people had with the screen, it was a horribly flawed phone and I can say that because I work for at&t... the vu plus has no chance, impression or mythic are easily gonna still be better quality and cheaper already.. I am just sick of apple runnin our show and not allowing a competition to be had within the company..
@circarider Well I have the LG Vu now, it will retire next week when replace with the Pre Plus. Only thing I didn't like was the absence of the 3.5mm jack. Stock the phone sucked but after apps and new themes it lasted me a year.
For half the price I too would cop the Samsung Impression. I don't see an area where this phone dominates over any other current device.
WOW Another piece of Junk phone from AT&T... WTF are they thinking up there??? Another phone No one is interested in. Who is up there making these stupid Decisions... T-Mobile has Andriod, the HD2, Mytouch. Verizon, Driod, Samsung Omnia II, Blackberry Storm, and Their new LG.. SPrint, .... THE EVO 4 fuckin G!!
AT&T, aint got shit, especially since their one trick poney the Iphone is on its way out. AT&T is like a wife not performing well in the sack, one position aint gonna always make someone happy. Go gives a damn about that Flopfest the LG VU to begin with, now u bring a part 2???
@Sniggih
iphone on it's way out, huh? Cute.
@Sniggih hey dumbass, this is a dumbphone not a smartphone, apples and oranges here.
@Sniggih
I like how you just snuck in some intimate details about your marital problems there.
@jroff bitch I aint even married and my girl is alright in the sack so its not about her, she could do a little better. Like doing what I ask on the spot without negotiating, thats what married losers do. Back to AT&T check my Rapsheet with post about them... they freaking Suck!! and Im stuck with them!! arrgghhh!! Somebody send me the Holy Grail of Carriers pleease ): ... **HUUUUUUAAAAH!* Currently still stuck with crappy selection of phones on AT&T. The end.
For $150 the Pre Plus is a much much better option.
@kentuckywildcats86 A much much much better option is the Verizon $49 Pre Plus with free hotspot.
@kentuckywildcats86 The Palm Pre Plus will cost you at least an additional $30 a month though. If you get your Palm Pre Plus subsidized through 3rd party dealers, You can get it free.
Ok, is it pronounced "view" or "voo"?
Either way, what a stupid name!
@Benjaming Voo
Wow, AT&T just doesn't get it. This phone is weak sauce, but not surprising because so is the carrier.
I remember back in the day when Cingular was rocking it hard! Plenty of good phones, hell my first mobile phone was the rokr (remember those buddies? lol) but now it is only iphone. Sorry but I am switching to either tmobile or sprint next month. I do not want the iphone (its a nice phone but similar to the ipod touch???) and honestly I love at&t just not their silly strategy of trying to force everyone to iphone.... This saddens me.... I hated tmobile before (too many sidekicks) but at least i'll be using nokia, blackberry etc and I live in NYC so it should be fine. What happens when you lose your exlusivity at&t then what????????
So why is this BREAKING news?
on the bright side it's a feature phone with a capacitive screen.
stay classy, LG.
You people always make me laugh. I know you are all tech nerds, but try and understand this next point. The VU was a huge sales success, and the Xenon was a huge sales success. So combining them together is a perfect fit for the target audience they are aiming to sell this too. Not sure if you people realize that not everyone wants a data plan and this phone will be perfect for those people.
@businessman25
pretty sure this thing is going to require a data plan, like every other phone on at&t these days that isn't a razr.
@jroff
Do you know how business models work? It will require a basic Internet or texting play. It will not require a 30 dollar plan though. The original VU did not. Every other carrier does the exact same thing. Look at Verizons website and if you click on a multimedia phone they all also require a $10 plan as well just like AT&Ts does. Why get a phone with a keyboard if you are not going to text? And why get a PDA style (this is not one) phone if you are not going to use the data and email? Be a little smarter and think like an adult in the business world. If you want a phone that makes phone calls then get a flip phone
$150 feature phone with average specs? With the bullshit mandatory data plan they're putting on some of these feature phones it's a complete rip off, but without it then that's not *too* bad. $100 would be nicer for those specs, but I wouldn't say it's make or break for the feature phone consumer IMO.
@kenny if you weren't going to get either unlimited texts, data and text, mobitv and text or any combo that meets the 20 dollar minimum then why would you buy the damn thing anyway? just get a regular phone.
@kenny goo
It will require $20 in text or data (or a combination). Alternatively, it can be placed in a family text plan.
I wish Verizon worked that way. Instead they make you get one of these bullshit $10 25MB data on top of a messaging plan that would double that cost and fill the minimum requirement.
Housewvies?
You'd think that they'd spell-check simple stuff like that
The LG Vu single handedly, almost completely turned me off to a touchscreen only phone. It was a piece of junk. After going through 3 of them under warranty, I finally sold it on craigslist and went back to my flip phone.
Luckily I gave touchscreen only a second chance, with my N1
@ngsm13
Exactly what I was saying a bit ago, the vu sucked so bad it ruined peoples "views" of touch screen. They barely I've it a second chance...
They should be ASHAMED for selling this, especially one day before the next iphone. The Backflop is even better than this!
@Johnny Rockets
I love my "backflop" so we all have our own opinion right? I've had an iphone and work at att so guess its alright..
why make a LG VU PLUS? I had to replace my LG VU 3 times in a span of a year. The touchscreen stopped working 3 of those times.
Well at least it's capacitive now. resistive sucks.
Now i hope LG is smart about this new phone... If they fuse the old vu and the LG xenon softwares (and fixing the probles of the ole xenon) this phone will be a GREAT success for parents who has kids who like to text.
This phone has a dedicated ATT icon key. What's it for if the phone has been unlocked and is used on a different network other than ATT?
I almost think that this phone is supposed to be marketed toward teenagers. After all, for them, a large touch screen and a physical keyboard are all they care about. I think that this phone will sell as well as the LG Xenon and the Samsung Impression. Also, the phone does look very thick, but I think that that part of the phone might be exaggerated in this picture. Of course, I am not sure why they would want to do that.
