Nokia's new hotness,
the N8, is starting our week off in fine style.
Finest Fones, what looks to be a Symbian-only mobile news site, is reporting its own tests done with the handset that show it comfortably outpacing its predecessor. Of course, in these fog of war-obscured times (before proper hardware is dished out), we can't really be sure of the veracity of what we read, but
Symbian^3's newfound ability to exploit graphics hardware seems to be paying off relative to the more primordial ways of the
S60 5th software on the
N97. The intrepid investigators found a 180 percent performance delta between the two phones in Speedy Go! tests, while the N8 ran through a cycle of FPC bench 3D with perfect 60fps scores each and every time. We won't be convinced by the purported
680MHz CPU inside till we test it out for ourselves with a load of widget-heavy homescreens, but early signs seem to be encouraging.
@naashak I never said suck. I like that symbian in the fact That it is one of the most customized OS s. But its just been so clunky And hopefully with the new sym^3 and 4 my opinion will change. But I got really burned with N97. But build quality Nokia is awsome.
@hebrewknight
I dont blame you re. the N97 experience - Nokia lost a lot of faith in their brand due to that junk phone combined with an idiotic piece of marketing. However, being Nokia and their culture of re-inventing themselves, it seems they really did learn from their mistakes (very un-Motorola like!) and the N8 is a pretty darn strong indication of that - I have used the N8 for an hour or so and it really is a pretty good regular phone and smartphone. And what is even more intriguing is that even though it is positioned as a mid-range phone, it actually equals or bests the other high-end smartphones so, I am really interested to know what Nokia has cooking in the high-end stable (aka Meego).
@naashak I agree. But with having gone from all iPhone versions to N97 to the N1 I can honestly say I will stick with not just android but Google's line of devices. Not android powered but the Nexus line in general. As long as Motorola doesn't produce nexus 2 ill be alright. :-)
@hebrewknight
Google won't be selling any more phones directly, they haven't clarified their position on the "nexus" line either so don't hold your breath too long, wouldnt want you getting blue in the face and all that.
I have talked to some people at the I/O and the Nexus line is far from over. Google direct sales is over and are now going.to continue selling the nexus line through retail locations. But still waiting on my froyo update
I have a N1 but after seeing the N8 I know what I am switching too :-)
Moreover even from a naming perspective, N==N and 8>1 so clearly N8 > N1 ;-)
