T-Mobile Garminfone looks confirmed for June 2 release
It seems that your wait for Garmin's first T-Mobile-bound phone -- the aptly-named Garminfone -- might be a short one. We'd already known it was coming in June for $200, but this shot here makes it sounds like June 2 is the date you should start lining up in front of the store at four in the morning (we kid, we kid) for your shot at arguably the best turn-by-turn experience available on an Android phone today. You can get over the lack of Froyo and a 3.5mm headphone jack, right?

GPS for $200? No. $97 iPhone 3GS? Yes. Since both networks kinda suck, I'd go with the tried and true Apple device.
Come on now, guys! With all that is available on the market these days, you come in with a $200 price point? Ugh. You should know better than that.
@angstwad Seriously. A $97 3GS is impossible to beat. Carriers and handset makers must be cussing hard right now.
@aubreyq If you do the calculation, it's not that great of deal. If you sign up Sprint and get an EVO, you will be getting a better device, and save about $540 in 2 years over ATT.
@Tony Montana That only works if you want to go with Sprint.
*IRSmurf has changed his name to anything but Apple*
EVO for me. Garminfone for family.
Sprint's incredible price of $75/mo for everything but minutes, which I have little need for, is only $5 more than I would be paying for a third line on a family plan for an android phone on T-Mobile.
@angstwad I dont believe the aRTards commenting here. Garmin phone's GPS actually WORKS without a data connection, can double as a great nav device for hiking or bicycle rides (then again I doubt anyone one here has set foot outdoors). It comes pre loaded with maps. It is perfect to use on long road trips with the network being so patchy.
Arguably far too niche to ever sell that well, regardless of how good it actually is at its primary function...
For $200 who gives a sh1t? hmmm.....this or EVO....this or EVO?
@Waltah
Or even more relevant. T-Mobile HD2 or this? HD2 with Bing Maps is already pretty damn good, plus it's got this little thing called 4.3" touchscreen.
lol..lol...lol..lol....lol......lol......lol....really?...lol...lmao
YAWN....ZZZZZZZZZZZZ *dreaming of EVO*
"Navigate via Text Messages"? What does that mean? Somebody can change your navigation by texting you? LOL.
@pika2000 That means if there is any address sent to you by text messages, you can navigate to the address by simple touching the address.
@pika2000 Somebody else running Garmin software can text you their location which this Garmin will then pick up and route you to exactly.
@NuShrike ...or anyone can text you an address and the phone will allow you to start navigating.
Pre-Ordered my Evo at Best Buy, can't wait for June 4th.
Android
Snapdragon
Tmobile
='s what I want
@taciturnforsale
Glad I found one of the few others that want what I want
@taciturnforsale Don't forget the Tegra 2!
BORING, so check this out instead

Epic Fail?!?!
@amardeus Yup, GPS is a software platform at this point, not hardware ... Having a GPS oriented OS skinning already proved pointless on the PalmOS version of this.
I would buy this, I actually venture out of the house unlike most of you dateless wonders out there and am in need of true navigation and also a phone on the Android platform.
@Smiley649
Unless you travel in the middle of nowhere google maps gets the job done pretty well. And if you're so bad with directions you already own GPS navigation.
If I travele within the city and need to get somewhere I just pull up the address on google maps, if I travel out of state I use a stand alone GPS navigation.
@amardeus Yea, I hate paying premiums for a better service. Good enough. That's my motto. /s
Pretty ugly...
I just got my mom a Garmin nuvi 265WT though...what do you tech experts think about it? Best bang for buck?
This phone should have been out 3 years ago, too late. I think the market for this phone is just not there anymore, or not as big as it used to be.
@Tony Montana
and android 1.6 does not help at all.
@Tony Montana
This is an Android device. 3 years ago Garmin should have released this phone? Then you probably thought Garmin to be creator of Android platform.
Eww.
What is T-Mobile doing? Who is making the decisions on what phones to offer and what price to offer them at? The only win they have had in the last 4 years was the G1 and it's nearly 2 years old now. Thank got my contract is up in October.
@zoid99 you seem to have forgotten the Nexus One.
@Sandtiger812
Nexus One is not a T-Mobile product. I can not get a Nexus One on a family plan.
@zoid99
i LOVE my Moto Cliq from T-Mobile ... but will abandon it to wolves if T-Mobile ever picks up a flagship Android device with a 4" or bigger screen.
Wait, what? This phone is barely worth $100 bucks on a one year contract, $200 bucks on a two year contract or $599 out right? Noooooooooooooooooo thanks I prefer not to waste money.
but you can text directions!
Garmin i am sorely disappointed in this performance go to the corner and think about what you've done
LOL
Evo june 4th ... im ready
What a piece of !@#$.
-Includes touch-based, 3.5" screen
Oh thank god, I got so tired of all my phones not coming with the screen included.
Yawn...
