Lenovo IdeaCentre A300 now on sale, offers less value for more money
If you set your heart on the sexy, swiveling Lenovo IdeaCentre A300 desktop when you saw it at CES, the time has come to lay down your cash -- the all-in-one PC is now available for order. It's kind of a shame that it'll take eighteen days to arrive on your doorstep after you write the check, and we're not terribly jazzed that there are only two last-gen Core 2 Duo Mobile configurations on offer for hundreds of dollars more than Lenovo originally promised, but hey -- form over function, right? Just make sure you opt for the $950 version if you plan to watch any LOST reruns on the glossy 21.5-inch screen, as Lenovo no longer includes a TV tuner in the base model. Yeah, what with the company calling it a "hi-def TV" and all, we're as surprised by that omission as you.

OMG! I thought it was a tablet/slate device (Then i saw the stand). I am disappoint! :(
@One Love OMG! why would you want a 21,5" Tablet? I'm confusing! :(
@BecauseItsNotGoogle Wasn't more money for the new Macbook, so that statement wouldn't apply.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
That's for the lower end 13inch model! Do some research.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle : Huh? I have 0 interest in Macbooks. WTF are you on about? :|
@Daanmannetje : I thought it was a tablet at first glance.
"offers less value for more money" they should merge with Apple
@noodles2k
I lol'd hard at this title. I have bronchitis and the lol came with a mouth full of phlegm.
@noodles2k
I love how engadget is so unbiased *sarcasm*
1920x1080 on a 21 inch screen? Nice.
@bigcow05: 1920x1080 on a 21 inch screen? Common.
@Ruben As poo as it sounds, it is pretty good. I only have a 21.5' screen but 1080p material still looks stunning on it. :)
@bigcow05 My 4 year old Dell is 17" 1920 x 1200.
@Steve2000
Is it a laptop? I meant desktop monitors. Usually this resolution is only on 24 inch desktop monitors.
Based on the markedly unoriginal design I think they already have.
Looks like an ipad booting up OSX in that pic... Not that that is a bad thing... I'm just sayin..
@lespaul85
i smell lawsuit
Too bad you have to take (pay) Windows with it ...
@Mikkis74 Too bad you're a DICKEND.
*the troll can no longer be fed, check back next feeding time!*
@richb93
I'm a Linux user and I hate to pay for something I don't need. Can someone tell me does Windows still have registry that will corrupt in time and slow your pc down?
If not I will give it a try ...

950$ for an all-in-one pc? why is this "less value for more money"?
@dartox
No fruity logo = overpriced
@Tes: To be honest, they are not wrong about the price.
Intel® X4500HD integrated graphics
Ugh...not for that much money.
@Ruben
To be fair...you're probably right.
Looks like a giant iPhone 4G on a nicer-than-Apple's stand.
@FermentedDischarge
How the fuck does it look like an iPhone?
@FermentedDischarge: The wide chrome border really reminds me of it. That and the black glass around the edges combined with the chrome border.
@FermentedDischarge
I normally don't like saying this to people, but STFU.
ENOUGH with the apple-fad copycat design that all companies seem to be doing these days.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle You need new eyes:

@Beckler
Holy shit, who would've expected all the iFanboys to be out in this Lenovo thread. Making comparisons between this and Apple, WTF? Must everything to be compared to fucking Apple? Give me a fucking break! Enough is enough.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
I am a Graphic Designer as well and it totally looks like an Apple rip off to me!
This is Apple's LED Cinema Display
http://www.machoe.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/27inch-apple-cinema-diaplay-led-580x323.png
The Lenovo however has a chrome trim around the out side edge just like the iPhone!
http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/
And you can not deny the Wallpaper very very similar to Apple's main Snow leopard wallpaper!
@Beckler OK, so it looks a lot like a wirescreen iPad on a stand. That's not bad thing. The only problem here is the GMA X4500 since there are 17.3" laptops with discrete graphics for less money.
@Dale P
And you sir need eyes, period. These designs have NOTHING in common. Apple invented neither the rectangular display nor the stand on which it is attached. Get a life.
@Dale P Have to agree with Joe. This entire thing of everybody supposedly copying Apple is a load of bull. It's a screen with a black border, I'm pretty sure there's a lot more than just the iMac that utilizes this style of design. Not everything revolves around Apple you know . .
@GetInMyBelly I am not saying everybody is copying Apple. I am saying that I can see a similarity between the choice of background shown on the screen and the Snow Leopard default, and the screen itself with its thick black bezel. Look at the two pictures side by side.
And @BecauseItsNotGoogle, if you are indeed a graphic designer, I hope you don't charge.
@joe23521
I'm not an iFan, quite the opposite. That's why I'm tired of the apple copycat stuff. Who knows what their intention is, but it seems pretty clear that's the theme they're going for. It's hardly uncommon and it's obvious why companies do it: try to copy what's doing well. I'm saying to makers: use your own brain and innovate; make an intelligent design, not one that supposedly looks good to some people (apple stuff looks dumb, simple and low-tech to me, actually).
@Beckler
Yeah, perhaps if you string some colorful LED's around it an put a little alien head on it with eyes that light up it will look more High-Tech!
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
probably because new mac had better processor then the previous model, and price tag remains the same. instead of crapping all over, just use proper arguments.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
please tell us what you graphically design, so we could avoid that, thanks
@BecauseItsNotGoogle It looks like a giant iPhone oriented in landscape. Not that that's a bad thing, I think this Lenovo is shockingly beautiful.
That's one ugly, poorly designed ACD clone if you ask me. The shape is a complete rip-off of an iPhone and the desktop is a rip off of Leopard. The off-centre post is going to make it appear to be crooked and falling over no matter how you place it.
@Gazoobee: Isn't the post actually in the center, but because its pushed towards the back, it appears off center due to perspective?
@Ruben maybe. It looks off centre in the pic and where it connects to the base is also off-centre so I'm assuming that it is.
@Gazoobee: You are right: http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/img_lib/products/splitter/desktops/IdeaCentre/A-Series/gallery/A300-3L.jpg
Thats really weird. Original, but completely unnecessary.
I assume there is enough weight on the bottom to keep it stable. At least the base is centered with the monitor.
Hmmm.....that wallpaper looks a lot like Mac OSX Leopard and Snow leopard. And the glossy black boarder around the screen with round edges with a chrome trim looks like the iPhone/iPad Design. The Designers at Apple should get paid more because it looks like their designs are being used by other companies too!
I hate to say this, but I think the Sony L series is probably a better value considering you get 24" and blu-ray and discreet graphics for 1300. Still expensive though.
as soon as i saw the top, i thought - an iPad beater, but then scroll down and theres the stand..
as soon as i saw the top, i thought - an iPad beater, but when i scrolled down...
How is this less for more?? It's about 900 bucks (I saw one for 680 sale price at lenovo) It looks beautiful and is probably one of the sleekest, thinest allinones out there.
Why is it that lenovo should be about value for money while a certain someone (read whatever you want) can get away with splendid industrial design?
Double standards at it's best. Apparently 100% markup on components is more value than a 20-30% markup.
