Marvell shows off 10-inch Android tablet at Netbook Summit
Unfortunately, we don't know much about this new Marvell powered tablet, but we couldn't resist sharing our impressions of the very svelte 10-inch device. We only got a few minutes to play around with the slate at the Netbook Summit, but we can tell you that it has a brushed metal back and there's an opening on the front for a camera. As for the internals, it's based on Marvell's Moby reference design, which uses its Snapdragon-class Armada 610 processor, and will run Android 2.1 Eclair. The rest will be up to whatever Marvell customer is bringing this bad boy to market -- the Marvell executive that let us catch a glance at the device wouldn't turn it on as he feared we may see the mystery customer's logo. We told you we didn't know much, but from what we saw today it sure looks promising. Now, if only we felt Android was ready Google would give us a tablet-ready version of Android...

@Frasier
I do agree, its the best tablet available, but unfortunately, its optimized for media consumption instead of both consumption and creation. I want something I can bring to school, and annotate a professor's powerpoint slides, as he goes along. Or read an ebook and highlight, and annotate in the margins. I wish there was a OneNote based OS like courier... but there isn't, and the best we have is the not good enough iPad.
@Frasier I think the reason all these companies are making tablet announcements left and right is to keep people from buying the ipad. the idea is that if people are aware of a coming product that meets their needs (usb ports, hdmi, etc.) they won't go to the ipad. If the ipad keeps selling the way it's been selling it will become such an entrenched product (like the iphone) due to $$$ investment in apps and such. very hard to switch platforms when you've already spent $100 or more on apps. then it's much harder to compete against it.
That Nvidia tablet I seen a while ago was awesome.
I don't understand why all the iphone/ipad killers look exactly like the iphone/ipad (Courier excluded)? I have an iPad and its incredible, Apple has delivered the blueprint for tablets, this tablet here is evidence of that.
Is it really necessary for all these companies to copy the iPhone/iPad design exactly...right down to the shiny bezel? Every one of these things look like a giant iPhone.
Get some balls, copycats.
*I had a rough day and want to take it out of the rest of the world.*
Looking forward to seeing what options are available and what it comes with standard issue.
We know eventually, they'll have a little gadget like this that will do 90% of what we now use/need a computer to do:
mainly e-mail, web surfing and USB3.0 connections!
MUST BE:wireless, bluetooth, wifi, etc,etc,etc and work anywhere on earth!
Android is not ready for anything really. It is a big pile of beta hurt.
I'll believe it when I see it for sale.
I sniff another failure.
Marvel is such a large household name.
@SCXFAN
You know its not... the Comic book company right?
@SCXFAN dumbass, The brand is not Marvel, thats why they did NOT show it
This looks like a giant iPhone.
Interesting design..
Wow. It's like an iPad only crappy looking. Can't wait!
mehh
Who cares, it has PORTS on it!
Kubuntu on this anyone? :P
explain yourself Joanna - what don't you think a platform built on Linux can achieve compared to any other mobile OS?
@AstroSeven I have tweaked the ending. What I meant is that Google does not certify these tablets for Android, thus there is no marketplace support and other things are disabled.
What the hell does that last line mean?!!?!? Watching Engadget, don't get too big for your birches!
@RLJSlick Clarified
Why does it have Apple's iPhone design? If I wanted a device that looks like the iPhone, I'd buy an Apple product. Marvell fail.
@Revo1 ...iphones have a design? I thought they just went "do something retro-futuristic looking and the crowd will munch it up" and then asked a guy that worked at sharp in the 80's for a drawing.
On another note, design is not the same as kitsch plasticy crap so get over the "design" hangups...geesh.
Blah blah blah blah . , ? ! '
