Nexus One starting to show up in third party retail channels, commands big money
If you want to know what Google meant by "more retail availability" for the Nexus One when it talked about spiking its first-party phone store, take a good, hard look at our brave new world here. Independent retailer i Wireless has started offering a number of Android devices in the past few days, including the Nexus One -- a product that's still extraordinarily difficult to find outside of Google's own site, especially since none of the American Big Four carriers intend to offer it directly. It turns out that i Wireless is an authorized T-Mobile affiliate, so they're selling the phone for $299.95 on contract after rebate -- a good bit more than the $179 Google charges, but in return, it looks like you can select just about any plan T-Mobile offers (Google restricts you to the Even More 500 plan to get the subsidy). We think we already miss the old way of getting these things.

@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Have you used a capacitive display with gloves on this winter? I'm sure it's fun to lose your fingers due to frostbite, but I actually have uses for them other then trolling on internet blogs.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle hater and neg.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Seriously man, I prefer MS products over others too but your blatant trolling on here is just making me cringe. Enough please? Let each to their own preference.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle that trackball becomes very important in a reccovery partition ;)
@BecauseItsNotGoogle If you have BING as your default picture you failed...
@stanar007
Funny the google/android whores don't allow those of us the pleasure of preferring Apple Products.
Not to mention how many times they troll the Windows Mobile threads.
Lets see how many times have the android fanboys bitched about Windows Mobile in all those HD2 articles.
"Put on android on it". "Aww too bad it has android...windows mobile SUCKS"
Remember that? I'm not making it up. Article after article people kept trolling Windows Mobile when it came to the HD2.
android fanboys...masters of hypocrisy. If you want us to stop bothering you in google threads then STOP trolling Apple related threads.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
You're only agreeing with that idiot because your an MS troll.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Bing sucks, dude. I can't stand it. It is way slower than Google, and Google gives me better results.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Because bing sucks...DUH
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Actually, I like Google's page better with the numbersheet and style. Why is it so hard for you acknowledge that different people like different things?
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Oh and while I don't find either particularly "neat", I do find Google's to be far more on topic which you'd want from a search engine...

You've failed at your own trolling example.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle My brother has one and it kicks ass...so STFU...And i own a 3gs...
@BecauseItsNotGoogle smelly troll
@BecauseItsNotGoogle You obviously haven't tried the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update. The touchscreen responsiveness is vastly improved along with the efficiency of the operating system. The openness of the operating system also gives one many features that will not be available on the iPhone or would be restricted by Apple or carriers.

Which one? Google clearly shows that the Lakers lost at the top and the first link is to the NBA page and not some msn / foxsports joint venture...
Again, Google gives the most useful info first!
**However, i agree the clip-art of a basketball is kinda lame but its a small price to pay, for the info i was looking for...
@BecauseItsNotGoogle Haha well played Sir.
You are doing what I do every single day at school.
Also guys, How about you compare Google Maps and Bing Maps? We have a CLEAR winner/
more interestingly, they are selling Hero with Android 2.1...
@stanar007 Yep, we already miss the online way of ordering nexus one, but I guess the tide is changing and google must stay afloat all the time. http://j.mp/super-phone-of-january
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Before you complain about the screen try actually using the phone. The screen works great and is quite sensitive, if you're not overlapping the edge with your finger while holding it you won't have any trouble.
That trackball is often quite useful too. Considering I owned an iPhone 3gs before getting my N1 I actually know what I'm talking about here. You seem like just another fanboy that hasn't even touched one.
This thing needs to hurry up and come out in more retail shops. Best Buy Mobile etc... and let's not forget about the AT&T people who don't want to pay $530 for this phone! :(
Canada soon? :)
@Ross McLean
It's been available through the website for Canada for months now...Telus, Rogers, and Bell use AT&T bands...and Wind uses T-Mobile bands...
@kapanak
Oh are you meaning the full price? Yeah I'm not willing to pay full, I'd rather have a locked cheaper version. Yeah I know that it can work here, it was just carries subsidizing it for me that I'm looking for.
@Ross McLean
You rather be locked up on a THREE YEAR CONTRACT with mandetory data plans than to pay the equivalent of about 3-4 months of bills to have the phone shackles free?
@kapanak considering the phone costs more than your average netbook. yes!
@tylersmyler See, I just don't get that (well I kinda do but still) - how can you put a price on freedom?!
But seriously though, the extra $400 bucks or so, you'd pay for an unlocked nexus ('cause let's be honest, if you think robelus(tm) is gonna give you the NX1 for less than $200 on 3-year contract you're dreaming) is pennies in comparison to what you're going to pay them for the plan over those 3-years. Not to mention that half the point of owning nx1 is having a phone that's not tied to, and doesn't depend on, any network.
I'm ready for Nexus Two.
@Meekermoloko
there was no G2, there will be no Nexus Two
@JeremyBenthem
G1 was a test by Google and HTC, for Google to get a stepping stone, and for HTC, to see if anyone would even buy a phone with completely new, never before seen software.
When things started looking good, Google started investing more time into the software, and HTC started making more Android phones.
But I would be very suprised to see a Nexus two... Since everything that has happened since then, especially Sense UI
@JeremyBenthem
The G1 wasn't sold directly by Google either.
@Meekermoloko I'm ready for the Nexus Pro.
@Meekermoloko
I can't wait for the Nexus Six. But knowing how powerful it is, it'll probably be banned from the planet. :-/
@JeremyBenthem the g2 was the mytouch 3g lol and just cause there was no g2 has nothing to do with a n2
Since Google has bowed out, HTC should take complete control over this device, renaming it simply the "HTC Nexus".
Get the manufacturing plants back up and running for the CDMA version, and get the phone onto Spring and Verizon ASAP.
@Cwill127
+ add HTC Sense.
Yes, yes, I see it now!
@Cwill127 - I meant Sprint, not Spring. Spring doesn't make any sense. Oh, and if this scenario were to play out, they should continue to leave sense OUT of the UI of the Nexus.
@Cwill127 I like my Android raw. I don't want any skins impeding me from experiencing optimal levels of Froyo goodness.
@Almo
Add HTC Sense??? Are you kidding? No thanks. After Android 2.1, stock Android needs zero modification. To the contrary, most those "themes" are a year old in design, and it shows.
@TareG
Agreed. Sense was great when android was immature and needed that extra gui oomph to get it rolling..but now with 2.1 and 2.2 coming, it's really not needed anymore. Plus the fact that simply because it has sense, updates will take _alot_ longer -- it's just not worth it. Same thing goes for MotoBlur...these companies have spent all this time and resources developing these custom UIs when really -- no one wants them!
@Cwill127 I love HTC, but I wouldn't touch the HTC Nexus where I'd wait months for them to recook each update with Sense. I wish they'd push updates immediately and let their users reinstall sense after the fact if they wanted. Of course, there's still the carrier delay on updates to worry about after that. Heaven knows it takes a month to add your logo to a home screen.
@Cwill127
It's called the HTC Incredible.
I'm not the only one waiting for a price drop on the unlocked version, am I? It can't be that far along, a lot of competition is coming out now.
And here I though that it was 299 unsubsidized
@sinco
me too, the happiest moment of my day completely shattered.
Nexamania
If everyone had GSM, or whatever equivalent technology amongst each other, and you could swap a phone to ANY carrier Google's pricing plan would make sense. As long as At&t would rather give me a cheap phone and expensive monthly bills (and verizon won't activate a sprint phone vice versa) it just doesn't make sense.
You buy the N1, sign up for an at&t plan, and you don't get a discounted plan even though they didn't fork over the subsidies. You can't keep the phone and pop in a sim for someone else. Phones are designed to have as little value as possible with the intent of forcing upgrades and contract renewals.
@everyone does A terrible situation, which the FCC should rectify. Locked phones should be considered a restraint of trade; all phones sold in the US should be required to be compatible with at least 2 carriers; and carriers should be required to activate any compatible phone. As for me, I'm looking forward to buying a used N1 next year off eBay for a reasonable price. No more subsidy/contracts for me.
I have my Google Io Evo but dude I still love my nexus the trackball is great and touchscreen works fine that Google hater must have had a bad model kills any iPhone that's fasure
Jeez, I tipped you guys on that one last week man. Sloooooow
