MeeGo 1.0 for netbooks and N900 now available to download
You've seen it teased, and now it's time to shelve whatever you had planned for this evening (or morning, depending on your current coordinates) and slap the first bona fide 1.x MeeGo release onto whatever device you've got handy. As of right now, MeeGo v1.0 for Netbooks and v1.0 for Nokia N900 are available for download, with the former supporting Atom-based machines and the latter supporting... well, we'll let you take a stab there. The API that's being released includes Qt 4.6, and while the current SDK is tailored for netbooks, the next version -- slated to hit devs in June -- will support "touch-based devices, such as handsets and tablets." We're also told that v1.1 will be outed in October, with the development tree already being open. We're certainly digging the layout shown here at a glance, but why not give that source link a visit and find out how it suits you in real life? We heard Snooki totally digs it, too.

Man can't get any internet with it on my Mini9 stupid old netbook....good for nothing
@egut125 I put Moblin on my Mini 9 back before it became MeeGo and I couldn't get online with that. This gives me little confidence that they are doing anything but courting future OEMs.
Reminds me of Mark Shuttleworth hiring designers to make Ubuntu pretty instead of making sure users can suspend/resume.
@rbj Hardware's typically handled by hardware manufacturers. Design is usually handled by design teams. What's your point?
I can't say I dig the layout, sorry.
"Platforms with the GMA-500, Nvidia, or ATI Graphics chipset are not supported"
not a lucky day for my netbook
Most of the Maemo components that are integrated in Meego are under the covers i.e. the telephony stack.
You newbies need to realize there is more to an Operating System then the GUI..
Does this work with a computer that doesnt have an atom? I.e a late 2008 unibody macbook?
Have the live boot up on my HP 2140 here next to me.
I might die of shock if Linux EVER installs a functioning wireless driver on any of my computers without forcing me to scavenge the internet for a working solution to basic computer functionality. And on a cloud-centric OS no less. Shameful.
@schismal does wifi ever work out of the box on windows?
@schismal I booted this on a USB, and went right back to Windows when I saw there was no wireless functionality. Do they really expect anyone to use this on a netbook without wifi?
@jeffeulogy
As far as I recall, I believe it did for my current and previous laptop. I downloaded Intel drivers though b/c I wanted the extra control that the Intel software provides.
@jeffeulogy
I've never known Windows to give me wifi driver issues on any of my machines. Conversely, the only Linux distro that has worked out of the box is Ubuntu 10.04. Perhaps MeeGo will be more broadcom-friendly as it matures, but I didn't really think I was reaching for the stars here.
I'll even try it to install in my desktop. :P
Oh, it doesn't support ATI / nVidia graphics chipsets :/
I've got an eeepc layin around here that never gets touched. Guess I'm gonna have to go touch it.
Getting mine now. Hit the DL.
now im confused every day the n900/meego saga gets more interesting yet more irritating at the same time
Wanna watch by Youtube.
Anyone have some ?
If like me you've got a Dell Mini9 and can't get Wi-Fi working, Google 'Mini 9 Moblin' and follow the manual instructions on Slaine's webpage then reboot. You will need a wired connection first to download and install the necessary files through terminal.
This shitz is even more confusing than rocket science
Do you think it will work on a nettop? I've got a Dell zino HD I want to try this on
@Akibkhn
I was trying to say that I have an athlon CPU
Only atom processors supported? Can't I install it on a x64 laptop?
HEY! I just went to the meego's webbie site and I had 2 download options: With chrome and without!! D:
my question is: does the ChromeVersion.img comes with the stock browser? Coz I would like to have the default one also!
I put this on my HP Mini 1000 last night and wired and wifi aren't working :\. Was a tad late so I guess I'll be tinkering with it tonight to get one of them going.
this is great! I've just installed it on my Samsung NC10 and it's pretty cool (you can run it as a live image as well). There are a few glitches but hey, it's 1.0 - hopefully they'll keep improving it....
