Project Natal to cost $149 by itself, $299 with 360 Arcade, according to latest rumors
Here we go with those trusted sources again. Edge has it on good authority that Microsoft's midlife rejuvenator for the Xbox 360, Project Natal, will cost a cool 149 bucks when purchased as a standalone accessory, or $100 when bundled together with the $199 Xbox 360 Arcade console. That's a mighty steep hill for early adopters to climb, but Microsoft did warn us that Natal will not be an impulse buy. An October 26 date is also proffered for the official launch, but that might shift, leaving us with the same window of expectation as before. Interestingly, the Natal name is expected to definitely change for the final retail product, which we should be learning a lot more about at E3 in a couple of weeks.

Really Microsoft? $149? If this is true, I'll pass.
@yoyojam55
$149 Natal vs $80 per player for Wii Motion Plus vs about $100 per player for PS Move?
@lamerz
PS Move was $69 in a Canadian flyer..
@Sled
so $69 for 1?
natal is cheaper then.
@pinktacoyummm
I was wrong, $59
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/pojomofo/05-11-10move.jpg
@Sled There are 3 parts to it. Main one being $60 US, each additional piece being $20 US each. $100 US for the full setup for each player.
@lamerz You can share wiimotes/PS3motes between your friends. You have to pay a full $150 for Project Natal whether you want to play single player, or with friends who have it themselves. Too expensive I say. But, if the games are really that amazing for it, people will pay; personally, I can't see there being more than 1 or 2 must have games for natal.
@Sled Yes, you see only one part of the 3 in that image link you posted, don't you?
@lamerz
for the full package it is $99, PS Move, PS Eye, Game.
For additional Players it will be $59.
2 player = $158
@yoyojam55
I dont know, thought it's a good price. You only need 1 piece of equipment to support multiple players, unlike the wii mote or move...
@yoyojam55 I will wait for a $50 Chinese model that falls apart after 12 months.
@Sled Aren't some games going to use two of the main Move controllers per player? Wasn't there archery and some other demos using two of the ball controllers? So that would be $120 per player those instances, right?
@pinktacoyummm
And Natal has a smaller carbon footprint, so it is greener that the move and the wiimote.
WTF?!?!?!!?
They kept putting out the $80 mark late last year and early this year, and now all of a sudden it jumped to $149!
I am deeply saddened by this MSFT ]'=
@yoyojam55
Perhaps if my XBOX didn't genuinely run the risk of over heating I would spend money on it. Certainly not $150 though.
@Trickymaster
Its probably made in china anyways ;)
pass
@yoyojam55 Now if it could skype, I'd be willing the pay $150. But since it can't, I'll wait 2 years till it drops to $100, if it actually has any good games.
@lamerz
The problem with that argument is: Every study done on the human brain and value vs. cost tells us that it's psychologically easier to spend 200 or even 300 dollars in 20 to 40 dollar chunks than it is to spend $150 in one go.
MS understood this in the beginning, I'm not sure why they've changed tact.
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Yup. About a trillion times as useful, too.
@yoyojam55
seriously? I am getting that in heartbeat for $149! SIgn me up
@yoyojam55
Yeah, many players, but the fact is that in the end you're paying $150 for a camera... :|
Until we use it we will know if moving your arms around is better than having an actual piece of hardware with you, but as for now this seems ludicrous.
@jonmall1441
Probably?
@BecauseItsNotGoogle
Yes man... lets make the iPod the currency which will unify the World... how much a Netbook costs? 1 iPods... 2 iPods... 2 iPods plus 30 music downloads?
Troll...
@lamerz
I'm sorry but people do not really see it like that and $140 for a camera is expensive by any means considering that is all it is and the console has been announced to do all the processing of the images.
@yoyojam55
You know I saw $149.99 and I frowned, but then I realized something. For ~$200 you would have to spend to buy 4 xbox 360 controllers. This thing has no player limit (in theory, I don't expect 16 people to cram to together and play a game) If you look at it from a controller perspective it's actually cheaper than buy controllers, now it's not known if Natal will work with the entire dashboard, but if it does and I just play Natal based games, I would never need a controller (yet again in theory)
@lamerz Natal is not a controller.
@Guimo So we use the shuffles for change right?
@yoyojam55 It isn't true. Gotta love BS rumors based on a device that is probably 6 months out still. MS is probably going to subsidize the price like they did with the 360. Watch it will prob be $75 or something. But of course someone pulls a random number out of their *** and everyone thinks its the final price and bashes MS.
@yoyojam55 This could be great, to think that Natal can be marketed lower if it was a hit. Let's see how this one plays out. http://j.mp/natal-time-official-impressions
@yoyojam55 I think the $149 will include a Natal compatible game.
Way to call becauseitsnotgoogle a troll on an obvious joke. Way to go, who's trolling now.
@lamerz
You can't sell quality products for a lower price...
Will they at least start building in wifi and let gamers use a standard HDD with a new slim model 360? $150 is asking too much considering how expensive everything else is for the 360.
@1 Infinite Loop Cupertino CA
Still better value for money than what Nintendo or Sony are offering. Besides, not everyone uses WIFI so increasing the base price of the console would be wrong. Offering a cheaper WIFI adapter, now thats what they need to do.
@tobsmonster2
I beg to differ. You can purchase a 120GB PS3 with wifi, the ability to swap the HDD with a standard drive, Blu-Ray capabilities, and free online gaming for $299. I know Sony is going to introduce a premium PSN service but rumor has it that many things will remain free including online play. Sony easily offers the best bang for you buck right now.
@1 Infinite Loop Cupertino CA
Not to mention controllers you don't have to change the batteries every couple weeks.
Lets face it, the 360 is a money pit.
@1 Infinite Loop Cupertino CA PS Online doesnt even come close to comparing to Xbox Live, the best part of the PS3 is the BluRay, and then thats it
@1 Infinite Loop Cupertino CA
To those calling 360 a money pit ... here's a NEWSFLASH - All console makers want you to continually sink money into their consoles. Nintendo proved it with Motion Plus, Sony proved it with Move, MSFT proved it with Natal. They want much more than just the sale of the console.
@1 Infinite Loop Cupertino CA
Agreed, the PS3 is really the value leader these days. And don't forget about Bluetooth. I can use my Jawbone for my PS3 headset (and my cellphone...and my computer). Amazing Microsoft didn't put wi-fi or Bluetooth in the Xbox.
@SteveyAyo Doesn't even come close? You're just plain wrong there...
I don't pay for XBL because I just don't see it being worth £30 a year, every multiplayer console game I buy I just get for PS3 because it's FREE. Is cross game chat really worth £30 a year?
@1 Infinite Loop Cupertino CA
i was speaking about cost when comparing what natal offers vs sony's offering. You need to remember for sony's motion system
you need a PS eye and then two motion controllers per player. Thats already more pricey than the natal unit (which supports multiple players).
@HotFuzz
That was becasue it was originaly touted as a computer that plays games,.. then they pulled the other OS...
@Shokz
Pay attention to sales, Buy.com just had 12+1 XBL cards on sale for $28....this isnt rare, even Walmart had cards for $30 earlier this year. For less than $2.50/month, yes, a gold Xbox Live subscription is worth it for cross game chat alone.
@Sled
Use Rechargeable batteries like everyone has been doing since the beginning. You may go through them faster, but their ALOT cheaper in the long run.
@Shokz simply put it would be worth 70 dollars a month, playing online in PS3 is just boring without the chatter
@SteveyAyo *year not month
@1 Infinite Loop Cupertino CA I own a PS3 Slim for the exclusive titles, but by no means is it a bargain.
Its using outdated technology compared to whats available even in recent laptops w/ gamer cards, and there are a lot more peripherals available (including wiimote and 360 controlers that also work on em).
Almost none of my PS3 games are actually 1080P as the console can't handle it, and the object pop and AA/AF and what not just isn't up to 2010 standards.
No thanks M$.
@Snarf101 Dude, you are so cool. Can I use M$, too, and be cool like you?
