We're not sure if this is the "
relaunch" that we've been hearing about, but it looks like
PSP Go buyers in the UK will soon have one big new reason to consider the UMD-less handheld -- Sony says that it'll be throwing in a whopping ten free game downloads with each system. That deal will apparently also apply to at least some existing PSP Go customers (those that registered their system after April 1st), and it looks like you'll get a surprisingly solid lineup of games, including titles like
Little Big Planet,
Gran Turismo,
Wipout Pure,
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and
Need for Speed Shift, to name a few. Unfortunately, there's no indication on when or if the promotion will launch over here, with SCE's UK sales director Mark Howsen only confirming that it will be rolling out in the UK "next month."
Should have got this in a month or two ago. As it is they will be competing with the inevitable 3DS unveiling by Nintendo at E3 next month. It's a nice deal but the PSP has been out a while and without a price drop of the PSP Go I'm sure many users will opt to wait for whatever Nintendo shows.
Let's ignore the present and think of the future: Wishlist for PSP2!
- Same control layout + 2nd Analog Stick
- Officially kill the UMD (slot to support backwards-compatibility?)
- SIM card slot or CDMA support built-in w/carrier deal
- Wi-Fi (duh)
- Larger built-in hard drive (16GB or more)
- Expandable memory with SD cards (please no Mem Stick Duo!)
- Built-in Microphone
- Camera (optional)
- Touchscreen (optional, but keep the buttons!)
- Better media ecosystem support (MediaGo sucks)
- Keep most software features of current PSP (PSN, browser, most of XMB software with maybe a better video player)
- Increase the gaming graphics power! (should look better than iPhone games)
- NO AMOLED! (defeats the point of playing games on the go, i.e. in sunlight)
- Maybe a Gesture Area? (like Palm Pre/Pixi only larger)
Um...that's all I can think of for now. Anyone want to contribute to this/flame at this?
Thank you Sony for f*cking all early adopters who bought the console last year. I like my PSP Go though.
Still rocking my psp1000 that I got for free. PSP Go is a pointless console.
Drop the price to $200 in the US and say every one comes bundled with a free download code for one game of your choice from the PSN. Then drop the PSP-3000 to $150 and pack in a Memory Stick and ride this shit out until the PSP2 launch. Otherwise PSP sales are gonna continue to be a joke, which they have been for the last year or so.
In the states, we'll probably get 10 games that end with the letter "z."
