X10 MID does 1080p video output on the cheap
A $179, Windows CE 6.0-based MID / tablet may not sound like the most exciting proposition at first, but this so-called X10 MID from a manufacturer that apparently prefers to remain nameless might just pack enough features to at least pique your interest. Chief among those is support for full 1080p video output via the MID's HDMI port, not to mention support for just about every video file format you could ask for to go along with it. Otherwise, you'll get a 7-inch 800 x 480 display (resistive, judging from the stylus), along with a 720 MHz Telechips 8901 ARM 11 processor, 256MB of RAM, 2GB of on-board storage, a microSD card slot for expansion, and built-in WiFi and GPS. Willing to take a chance on it? Then hit up the source hint below to get your order in.
Update: Our pals from Engadget Chinese recently managed to get some hands-on time with device, which is made by a company called Kinstone. Head on past the break for a video, and check out a few more pics in their gallery right here.

if you could install foxit on it, this would make an amazing pdf viewer
Qute thing, I hate apples
I ordered one to play with.
(If only Western Digital released a "WD 'Portable' HD Media Player"...would destroy Apple's stronghold...)
Positive notes gathered from researching
1.)MKV and FLV support
2.)Youtube support (http://www.prlog.org/10694881-orphan-x10-mid-apad-vs-apple-ipad-fight.html)
3.) USB mini INPUT (Thoughts on this below)
4.) Win CE based (home made apps without cert's == good)
5.) Battery upgraded from original specs (seller lists at 3000mAh, others mention 1400mAh)
Might be a decent alternative to the WD HD Media Player if the "one available USB port"...for input... mentioned will accept an external HDD. (The Engadget src link's comments section mentions the input, and refers buyers to a USB keyboard with USB to USB Mini adapter)
EDIT...Just realized I had a specs read fail!
"USB OTG 2.0 & USB Host 1.1"...That means, completely useless for external data devices...(USB Host 1.1 is the input..USB 1.1....12Mb/s :( )
Anyone got any other possible bright ideas to massively extend this thing's memory?
I saw this tablet at cebit this year - three times. Kingstone, Mag Digital and Firstview showed this tablet. made a video of it(is in german...) http://www.touchmemobile.de/2010/03/kingstone-kmd-umd-070nk-7-zoll-mid-hands-on-video/
Would make a nice car entertainment device with navigation. :)
It looks to be the same device as Dawa D7: http://www.jiongtang.com/shop/dawa-d7-7-multitouch-wifi-wince-4gb-p-265.html
According to the specs at JTShop, it has a multitouch screen. And some other sites mention it can run Android OS. That would be awesome for the price!
@jech Dawa confirmed about the specification of their product : The D7 will use TC8902 chipset, clocked at 600Mhz not 720Mhz like the X10 so it supports video up to 720P only. No mention here about the screen but I think this kind of rebranded product won't have multi-touch screen :)

Engadget already looked at these http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/06/firstviews-95-android-windows-ce-pc607v-tips-a-craptablet-ic/ now the price is almost 2x as high
This + TomTom software = win.
For $180 dollars, this is a steal I think..
Give me this, but with the ability to install Android and I'll buy right now. I'll even slip an extra $20.
it says right on the card it's available with android or ce.. dont know why it's not mentioned in the article... with up to date android on it i'll take one too..

Yay!!! New toy is shipped!
Anyone know where I can find a review or comments on the device? Anyone actually have one?
@rspray
I'm going to do some extensive reviewing once I get this thing tweaked some more. Have gotten to get a network share visible, and associate the video's with iVideo.exe, but it still doesn't load them, so I am going to have re-write a version of iVideo that scans a particular network share instead of the SDMMC directory...too bad I'm a newb at ARM.
