I have never posted to Engadget before, but recently I have been tempted to elucidate a pattern I have noticed that is common to most articles which are even tangentially related to Apple.
It goes something like this:
1. Engadget posts article that describes some recent development in an Apple product, or Apple news 2. Swarms of commenters come in to decry the supposed Apple bias on Engadget, and attack Apple 'fans'/Steve Jobs for purchasing Apple products. They will then say something along the lines of, "watch out for the Apple fan boiz who are gonna come in and drool!!!!!!" 3. The Apple 'fan boys' never materialize, at least not in any significant numbers, but the Apple haters continue to come in droves.
Each step of this had its own irony embedded within. People claim Engadget is biased because it posts the Apple minutiae. Here's a hint: Engadget is a gadget blog. Almost everything they post here would be considered by minutiae by anyone not interested in technology. They post just as much Android minutiae, but yet I never hear any Apple 'fan boiz' coming in to assault on Engadget on crooked practices. Even funnier, when people come in and blindly attack Steve Jobs and people who use Apple products, they reveal their own blatant biases. Pot, meet kettle.
Then there are the people who consistently refer to Apple users as members of a cult, or fan boys. Why is it then that there are always far more people on the threads that come to accuse Apple users of the above, than the other way around? It seems to me there are far more people who are rabid about their Android or other products, than the other way around.
It's a fucking product. If you like it, buy it. If you don't like it, buy something else. It's not an important political issue that is going to guide your future. It's honestly hilarious to see every Apple post grabbing 100+ comments, mostly consisting of people hating on Apple. Nobody fucking cares.
@timds Should have kept to not commenting. Its a fucking comment section. if you dont like reading them, turn them off. Its not an important comment that will guide your purchasing future. It's honestly hilarious to see someone try to make sense, or referee this place with his 1 comment, mostly consisting of hate for everyone here. Nobody fucking cares. Ironic your post has nothing at all to do with the article, in fact adding to the useless posts you seem to hate so much.
'Just proves there are a lot of sheep in the world that fall for magical marketing.'
I don't really think I have to say anything, other than just repost that comment of yours. It says enough about you, and your understanding of ...everything.
Logic is dead among the trolls on pretty much all gadget site comments. I wouldn't bother mate, make decisions on products based on marketing info, reviews and your personal thoughts and trials. Forget the kids that can't afford devices and hence trash it continously, happened in the PS3's days with Xbox kids trashing it due to not affording one and happening now with iPad, likewise, can not afford and indeed will happen in future with newer products. C'est la vie. Ignore and move on I suppose. Welcome to commenting nonetheless!
@timds I understand you are a hypocrite of epic proportions. And to deny that most of the drones buying apple aren't doing it for the me too factor... well, sums you up pretty good too.
Couldn't have said it better. I've been reading engadget for only a few months. I'm not new to tech just to engadget. It seems that most of the readers post negative things about Apple and blame it on fanboys... It's like one guy says he likes his ipad and then gets bashed for it. I've had both Microsoft and Apple products for years and I enjoy both. But I'm in the minority I guess...
@A25i He's just a commenter complaining about pointless posts like yours that have nothing to do with the article, and lacks any sense of scale. Apple is the largest tech company in the U.S. and consistently is surveyed for top grades in customer satisfaction. Engadget is a gadget blog. He (timds) SHOULD be annoyed with people like you. You're precisely the ones who shouldn't be bothered reading articles like these (yet here you are). Engadget had to disable its comment section because of people like you flaming them unreasonably for covering high traffic topics like Apple products. Personally, I hate Apple lovers who seek out Zune articles and take steaming dumps on Zune's posititve announcements. I have deep issues with the reverse as well.
You are not in the minority of owning/using both. You are simply in the minority of common sense and lack of trolling. Most of the idiots on here have never even touched an iPad to trash it as they do.
It's kinda like, daddy never bought me a Maybach so every post about that vehicle, I will go about posting trash talk about it because I can't afford one and it makes me feel better to make fun of it and annoy others.
Yes, you're correct. Millions of people purchase these products because they have been sucked in by marketing and the Jones effect. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that people actually *like* these products.
Why does the same argument not apply to the recent surge in Android sales? I argue by the same logic that is it the 'me too' factor, and clever marketing. Or, wait, does that argument fall because 'Android is actually good?'
Man, I've been following technology for about ten years now. Go through old Slashdot threads surrounding the rise of the iPod, and you'll see the same sentiments. People claiming it's a clever marketing department, a fashion trend, and every other reason under the sun, besides the fact that people actually just enjoy and like using the products. I think there are few examples you'll find in history, where marketing alone drives significant amounts of sales. If you have any examples, please let me know. Apple has had flops too. The Macbook Air, the Apple TV, the list goes on. What happened to that supernatural marketing department there? Or the sheepish cult which consists of millions of consumers? Please let know.
@CleverB And another hypocrite adding to this thread, a comment not relevant to the story above! So its ok for us all to sit back and read your comments/complaints, but not mine? Relevant or otherwise? Cause your post, and his posts, are just as useless, and annoying as mine. LOL!!!!1one;)
@Almo I have in fact had my hands on an ipad. It's garbage. And I can most certainly afford one, seems all you fanbois fall back on that one. Its funny you use the over inflated price of apple products as a defense. Where's the logic in - since it costs more its better?
As an Apple Supporter I'm just sick of the double standard. And I don't for the life of me understand why the Apple Haters still flock to this site if they hate it so much for what they perceive to be "Apple Bias".
@hated one Owned? You must have the mindset of a walnut sliding across a keyboard. In case you didn't read his comment clearly, timds' point was that it's just a fucking product. Buy what you want because it suits you and your needs, not because of lust or desirability.
@TheLondonExchange I never claimed to see a bias towards Apple. Why do Apple supports post in non Apple related topics... Oh its a comment section. If you want Apple only love, Im sure there are plenty of Jobs' dick riding sites available for you, without flash, so your inferior devices can view them... lmao.
The iPad is indeed an expensive device. That doesn't mean it's garbage nor does the lack of flash which I can't figure out what I'm missing from not having. We all buy luxuries in our lifetime, some, nay, many will choose to purchase this and I hope they do enjoy it as much as I am. Good day.
@timds "3. The Apple 'fan boys' never materialize, at least not in any significant numbers, but the Apple haters continue to come in droves."
So you haven't stumbled upon the few annoying commentators who practicly live in these forums who send a dozen fake smuggy comments whenever there's a apple story, or a product that competes with apple products. My favorite is whenever there's news about very cheap laptops, and they come complaining why would anybody buy it instead of three times more expensive mac.
It's intresting that the term 'apple hater' has been created, but no 'lenovo haters' or 'android haters' or 'nokia haters' or 'windows haters' exist. Each one gets dissing comments but no other writer starts to call them 'xxx hater' but when apple gets complaints the complainnee gets stamped with 'apple hater' stamp. Why is that? Are we too emotional about owning something?
So here''s a rule of thumb in detecting emotional apple fan. He uses term 'apple hater' when he can't argue against fact based arguments.
you cite sheep & drones, yet you yourself are among the biggest herd of sheep & drones - the Anti Apple crowd. You all have the same, baseless comments that are completely fueled by ignorance & jealousy. Apple is the TOP tech company - period, so there will be many posts on their products, which will out sell the product you are currently are comparing it to. It will out sell it not because of 'fan boys' or 'sheep' - it out sells it because it is better. You guys put more attention on every Apple post than people who are actually fans of Apple, then cry that Apple gets too much attention. Someday when you grow up, you may appreciate great technology & not be biased due to the company bringing it forward & nothing more.
The Chromebooks are here, starting with Samsung's Series 5, a cute little number that promises instant-on access, 3G connectivity, and long enough battery life to web surf with the best of 'em.

See what I meant about logic timds? Dead.
@timds I'm with you dude 100%.
@timds Are you referring to Android? It's the first OS marketed to men with small penises. Join the herd. LOL.

Maybe you should be the one paying more attenion.
P.S. Windows hater here, by the way...
@timds True. So true. It's quite sad really to see how blogs have degenerated into hating.
