Motorola's been making good with
Verizon as of late, and according to the
Wall Street Journal, the two just signed a deal to "ensure some of its upcoming smartphones will be heavily promoted" by the carrier." The article goes on to say that Motorola is planning to launch a pair of such devices on VZW this year, with the obvious platform choice being
Android for both. Our best guess would be the
4.1-inch Shadow /
MB810 for one, but as for the smartphone? No clue. Even with great choices like the
Incredible and
EVO 4G on the market, like we said on last week's Engadget Show, there's never been a better time to wait on a new mobile purchase. Better yet, does this mean we can finally start retiring the original
Droid from television? Thanks.
So I have a Tmobile Shadow guess what 200mhz what!!! Believe the power baby!!!! haha
@apop
Let moto back in the games!!!
If dont like moto better hide or dont comment where moto is on!!!
@apop The Motorola Shadow, The HTC Evo aka SuperSonic whats next the LG Tails? Samsung Knuckles?....
@liftedngifted1
Do not retire my Droid... moto better leave Blur off of the phones, or we won't have any generic Androids left.
@cobjones too late... the shadow will have motoblur on it...I know
@techiebyday Could be great if they will explain more about its procs. Actually, this was rumored to be the nexus two prototype design, which turn out to be a hox. Reactions. http://j.mp/motorola-shadow-impressions
Shadow and Droid 2 FTW!!!!!
@Snarf101
I'd love to see the droid 2 out in July!
@Snarf101 i don't understand why HTC doen't exert pressure on Verizon for them to promote their phones as well as they promot moto's
I bet the Shadow's commercials are going to be awesome...but where is the Incredible in all this?
DROID DOES
@kevin52094
So I wonder if this is the best proof that Verizon will not be getting the iPhone.
I can't imagine Verizon continuing to go for these top tier Android phones if the iPhone were really coming to Verizon. Looks like they are going to double down on the Droid onslaught. No reason for them to stop current ads as it's all promoting the Droid brand in which case any phone called a Droid will benefit.
Wow I was at least expecting Verizon to give the Incredible a chance to actually make an impact before coming out with another Droid. But hey, more choices I guess.
@sfox8
I think the fact that they can't stock it for crap is whats forcing a move on before the evo gets too many good reviews and people switch to sprint.
I will be staying with verizon however and hoping for the shadow to come out in july :)
If only my contract was over now instead of January 2011. I'd love a Shadow to replace my Blackberry Dead I mean Storm.
No more moto please.
@brettlewis
No more you!!!
Or your cellphone company!!!
FANBOY!!
@JAG you got me wrong. I am by no means a fan boy. I owned a Motorola Droid. infact, I owned 6 of them cause the refurbs were very faulty. I now own an HTC incredible.
@brettlewis
I'm still on my first Droid. You must be unlucky.
@Shooter McGavin not really. its just that one you get a refurb you are bound to have issues. my first one broke right outside of the first 30 days. the cell antenna didn't work so it couldn't make calls. it was all down hill from there..
@brettlewis
Thats true you are very unlucky, most of DROID owners still have it since the first day.
I mean unlucky too cause MOTO is number one MATERIAL PHONE.
Take a look at google!!
@brettlewis I got a refurb DROID and the capacitive buttons at the bottom have a purple hue... so weird.
fingers crossed for something with a hardware keyboard
Doesn't actually say anything about July in the article?
Where did the July dates come from?
Just some speculation by engadget?
I love that my droid is still being promoted. I know it will soon end, but I am glad to see some love six months after launch. When my droid does go, I hope there is another vanilla android in my future. No sense ui thank you.
Taking back its throne from HTC! When it comes to RF radios and build quality, there's no comparison.
All the world needs is more Droid commercials.
i still think the incredible will appeal more to the general public - thin and sleek.
the droid 2 will have a keyboard and probably look even more manly/robotic. the shadow is too big. obviously us tech geeks will drool over microHDMI, the big amoled screens, etc, but i'm not sure about everyone else.
@nerd
I would love the big screen on the shadow... but if that moto blur business can't be removed its droid 2 for sure.
Win-win in my book.
@nerd
What are you talking about? The Shadow is 9.3 mm, the Incredible is 11.9 mm. It also has a 4.1" screen, it's no bigger than an HD2 or Evo.
Seriously.... stop the cdma madness...
@Plazmic Flame Yes! This!
Jesus when will the US ge with the program and join the rest of the world?!
@Plazmic Flame
CDMA isn't going anywhere in the next couple of years. There are currently 140 million customers on the two CDMA networks in America... and it's gonna take some time to replace every tower with the next big thing.
No one can go back in time a decade and tell Verizon and Sprint not to use CDMA... and they've got a business to run now.
So... new phones will come out on CDMA... and there are lots of people who will buy them.
@Michael Scrip
You're right but god damn, need some GSM phones ffs. There is no Android equivalent GSM phone when it comes to the HTC EVO, INCREDIBLE, HERO, Moto Droid, F***!
@Plazmic Flame -- "There is no Android equivalent GSM phone when it comes to the HTC EVO, INCREDIBLE, HERO, Moto Droid, F***!"
Oh I see... there are no decent Android phones for T-Mobile and AT&T.
Well... maybe the manufacturers think that T-Mobile is too small... and that AT&T has sold their soul to Apple.
GSM customers in America may be able to talk and surf at the same time... but I'll be using an HTC Incredible on Verizon very soon :)
@Michael Scrip
thanks for putting salt in the wounds, I hate you now, lol
@Plazmic Flame
There's a GSM hero and Droid (Milestone), unfortunately the milestone has a locked down boot-loader or I'd have one already. I really hope they turn out to be the leaked Droid 2 and a Nexus Two with 4.3 inch, OMAP 3640 and QWERTY slider but who knows what will actually happen.
@Plazmic Flame why? I enjoy getting service inside of buildings.
@Bratyr
how about the galaxy s
@bigbudha
Have u been paying attention to the Samsung behold II fiasco..Samsung sucks, they do not support their phones after launch like HTC or Motorola. Samsung should stick to their feature phones and get busy on making their AMOLEDs. The world needs AMOLED (super, please) right now!!!
@ac2913 Yeah, Samsung sucks! Yeah! But they have to make our screens! Yeah!
That makes sense.
/s
htc FTW!!
Sense > blurr. Asop > all. If they put blur on both I'd be very disappointed.
There's never been a better time to wait on a cell phone purchase? Are you sure about that? What about for AT&T? I'm about to cave and pick up the N1 because I sold my iPhone about a month ago before its value dropped to nothing, but this dumbphone usage is killing me...
@sublimeandetc There is no worse time if you are on AT&T, an andoid lover, and can;t afford an unsubsidized N1.
@turf Well, the only Android phone coming to AT&T I know about is the x10, which isn't even going to be up to date or powerful as the N1. The N1 still has the core components that make the Evo and Incredible powerful, it's just missing the monster camera and a few other bells and whistles. Is there anything coming that I'm not aware of? (AT&T only)
@sublimeandetc It has a great camera.
@anotherworld I just meant it's not the 8MP like the Evo and Incredible, but 5 is plenty for me. I also don't really need HDMI output or a mobile hotspot or anything like that. So, I just don't really see anything beating it until maybe the end of the year, but I'm not using this Sony Ericsson w810i that long.
@turf
We've been through this a thousand times. sign your contract, get your subsidized iphone or whatever returns most profit - sell on CL or ebay, buy the Nexus One. You can afford it.
@sublimeandetc Samsung Galaxy S looks sweet
BB contract up June 9th. Was thinking about the Droid because I like the keyboard, but might wait until July now.
