It looks like an investors conference hosted by Barclays earlier today was the place to be for anyone looking to get Motorola co-CEO
Sanjay Jha's thoughts on, well, just about anything, as he took advantage of the occasion to address about as wide a range of topics as you could ask for. That even includes the topic-du-jour of tablets, which Jha says makes sense as a "companion device," adding only that Motorola is "engaged in thinking about the right solution there." Jha also addressed the issue of Motorola possibly building or
acquiring its own OS by saying that "nearly all of my focus is on Android today," and that any other OS would have to match Android's capabilities. On that Android note, Jha also said that Motorola would be "aggressive" in bringing Android 2.2 to its phones (taking a Flash-related shot at Apple in the process), and he said that he wasn't concerned about the
HTC Droid Incredible eating into Motorola's own Droid sales, noting that the company has more Droid phones in the pipeline that he's "excited" about, including some for Verizon -- the
Droid Shadow, perhaps? Still with us? Jha also confirmed that
Motoblur now has more than a million users, and that Motorola will be introducing a new version of it "later this year." That's all to say nothing about Motorola's feature phone business, its plans to sell smartphones in China, and Jha's own new role when Motorola
splits into two companies next year. Dive into the links below for all the details.
his smile looks so faked
@not that geeky
Is that a smile?
To me it looks more like the expression on his face while he feels that an unidentified object is being inserted in his anus.
@not that geeky
yeah, its hard to look happy taking press shots when you'd rather be saving your company.
@not that geeky: you call that smile?
This guy looks like my uncle, and me a little bit but mostly my uncle.
@not that geeky
Looks like someone Photoshopped some teeth in.. but forgot the top row.
@not that geeky
That's what he looks like when he's trying to push out another Motoblur.
@Mr Blue
OMG! I was just thinking the same thing! LOL!
@not that geeky
Like a bad yearbook picture
@not that geeky
Are those his top teeth or his bottom teeth?
So the Blur will have Flash!!!
I'll be here all day folks. Tell your friends.
@tranceformer978 Both motorola and flash are run by Indian guys and the head of sales at google is Indian...and I am Indian so it makes sense for all Indians to buy Android phones from motorola that run flash :)
@jaffreywali
Just keep the Indian tech support to yourselves though!
must not post Benny Lava video...must not do it...
@Boyo
I dont know how this article reminded you off Benny Lava, but that's a hilarious video nonetheless! Gonna check it out again now.
@(Unverified)
I wouldn't say it's racism because he didn't mean it maliciously, but I get the feeling he thinks of the benny lava video whenever he sees an Indian person. If on every article with a white person as the picture I commented "must.. not.. post jeff foxworthy standup" I know I would get some flack for it.
The only difference being the benny lava video is hilarious.
Screw the MOTOROI, I like the Droid Shadow more.
Just as long as my CLIQ gets upgraded past 1.5 soon, I will be a happy Moto customer.
@shizbgby
What's wrong with 1.5?
Baclarys = Barclays?
@Mango Chutney
syntax error. a double equal sign must be used instead.
Should have bought PALM....
Keep the Droids coming but please keep blur off the higher end devices!
I much rather have them fix the problems at hand before agressively making new phones. The Droid/Milestone is haunted with bugs and other faults. Really I own one and to use their own marketing concept: Calling, Droid doesn't. Texting, Droid doesn't.
For now I would advice anyone against buying a Motorola, no matter how good it looks on paper.
@Thijs I think you need to change your phone, and figure out how to use it, cause the milestone is one of the best phone out there, word son.
@Raio
Oh but I like the device. It's great to use, but it does suck if you have dropped calls all day long and worthless sound quality from the calls that do get through. Also texts frequently don't get sent and give errors.
So unless you're saying I'm the only one (and I know I'm not) then I think there is something wrong with the Milestone.
But I'm glad you like the phone, I do like everything else about it. Just the core function should be working great too in my eyes.
@Thijs Ok I understand, I have always thought dropped calls had more to do with the network itself than the phone, cause I use my phone with t-mobile USA, and I have never experienced any dropped call, even when I had the droid (used to be with verizon) it was so great. by the way thats why I bought the GSM version of the phone.
@Thijs
I have the Droid as well and have not experienced these "bugs and other faults" you speak of.
I occasionally get dropped calls but it's rare. Texts will fail when, you know, your service drops off, which is also uncommon for me.
Droid does as far as I'm concerned.
@Thijs
I've owned the droid since January and only 2 times have I had any texting issues with the phone. Other than that my phone has worked perfectly. You probably need to get another phone because I don't think too many people are experiencing what you are.
@Thijs
You're complaining about signal on the nations largest network?
You're complaining about sound quality on a Motorola, which have much better sound quality than nearly any other maker?
You're complaining that it doesn't text, when the app works fine, the keyboard works fine, and the signal is present nearly all the time?
@masta vaan
I'm using the Milestone over in the Netherlands. Coverage is by Vodafone and it hasn't let me down yet in the 10 or so years I have been using it. I do have a signal with the phone and I can download with 3g without any problem. Though when I try to call somebody from exactly that same place where I download from it doesn't work properly.
But Motorola is aware of the problems, you can see the reply from Motorola Canada here: http://www.facebook.com/MotorolaCanada?v=app_2347471856
Also in the previous post about 2.2 hitting the Droid you can see a lot of people having problems with the phone. So we're all hoping it get's fixed with an update soon, because the phone is just not as great this way as it could be.
@Thijs
Sounds like a bug with the GSM radio, no problems with CDMA here in the states.
Half the time I fear Motorola is dead tech walking.
@factoid junkie at least it hasn't sold itself to another company
moto is doing just fine in my opinion
@factoid junkie
Whit all those phones coming I bet on MOTOROLAs future!!! they can do the come back!!
I just hope the DROID's true successor (one with a physical keyboard) has stock Android on it and not MOTOBLUR
She should have said: "Goodbye Engadget, .... and ehhh next week we're going to release the f***ing droid 2 and shadow..... they will be asskicking!" *beamaway*
And the fractured Android world rolls on... The Android system comes up with features faster than even they can adjust to them.
Apple's not so fast, for sure, but the iPhone gets them RIGHT.
Motorola is lurking in the shadow on Apple. Trying to grab their share back.
So Sanjay, just when do you plan to release 2.2 for my Droid, and this time no funny games OK...I have already developed a heart condition from my upgrade to 2.1
there must be an indian infiltration in the ceo range of any company these days.
Motoroi with xenon flash with new moto blur for the uk PLEASE, & please release very soon, I cant wait much longer.
