SlingPlayer Mobile for Android teased on an EVO 4G
It looks like those private beta rumors earlier this month were legit, seeing how Sling Media is now officially showing off its latest SlingPlayer Mobile incarnation on HTC's lovely EVO 4G for Sprint. The company is boasting that the app has the fastest load time of any version of SlingPlayer Mobile to date -- and we can't imagine that WiMAX hurts, either -- so this should be the perfect accessory to your EVO 4G purchase when the phone launches early next month. It's not clear yet what other Android devices will be compatible with the software, but we imagine Sling will be saying more soon, so stay tuned.

i only clicked on the article cause it said EVO on it
@WillSmith Me too. Sling Player if your traveling a lot.
@WillSmith
Haha, me too.
@WillSmith
And the good keeps getting better. This EVO beast is already force, and it isn't even out yet!
@WillSmith Wow!!! I wonder whats the price for the App?
@WillSmith
Did you get jiggy wit it?
@WillSmith
That's the only reason it caught my attention ^_^.
@WillSmith Why exactly are they using a cellphone stand when the EVO has a kickstand?
@procompmreman I was wondering this myself. Apparently, there can be more than one...
@ConnorMacLeod
HAHA!! Comment of the day!
@WillSmith
this is it. This app will make switch to Sprint and get Evo.
@procompmreman I read somewhere that if touch the other end of it, it loses it's balance
@WillSmith : One Phone to Rule Them All!
@procompmreman
YO DAWG, I HEARD YOU LIKE KICKSTANDS...
You know, Windows XP/Vista had the ability to stream live TV and recorded TV (for free) with webguide for a long time.
http://www.asciiexpress.com/webguide/default.aspx
Then Microsoft hired the original webguide developer and the project died. Why hasn't Microsoft developed a proper TV streaming add-on for Windows 7 media center as yet? What are they waiting for? I would gladly pay them for this media center add-on. :|
@WillSmith
B-b-b-but, iPhone...? Magical...?
@WillSmith
Which one of your movies will be best to watch on the EVO?
I was thinking I-Robot or Enemy of the State.
@procompmreman
haha probably b/c the camera angle wont catch the kickstand and the phone would look weird standing by itself.. it's dumb i know.
does sling require a monthly subscription? or is it a one time hardware purchase?
1 time hardware purchase only
@richo151 thanks
@Painkillaz23
One time hardware purchase. Its expensive, but goddamn is it awesome.
@Painkillaz23
They also charge extra for their mobile app. I don't think it's included in the purchase of the hardware. At least it wasn't when I purchased mine. The PC software is free though.
@Painkillaz23
Not if you have a Dish satellite receiver.
@DirtyVegas yea i have satellite(dish network) so i would have to pay $200+ for hardware and how much for software? i've preordered the evo and cant wait until june 4th
I am actually very excited for both Slingplayer for Android and the Sprint HTC Evo 4G. I will hopefully have both in the upcoming months!
I'm a fan of orb... it's free! However, this is still really neat! Go Android
:DROOL:
It will probably be another few years before sling actually releases anything....they always announce products WAY too early.
Of all my electronics, I'd say my Slingbox pro HD is by far the most poorly supported product I've ever owned.
The Mac support that was clearly labeled on the box....yeah, never happened. The only way to get HD on a Mac is through a god awful browser plugin!! The video quality on a Mac or iPhone is also just about unwatchable.
Sling software releases are the slowest, and their support in general, is an absolute joke.
Amazing, honest question, what can top this?
@scorpeo
If they allow it to play to a TV via the HDMI cable... that would be amazing. Allowing travelers to hook into a hotel TV, or when I go home at the parents house and want to watch a game that is live on my home cable provider. HDMI out and I will probably fall out of my chair :)
@scorpeo
My HTC Wizard can.
@gavin721 I sure hope so! I hook my laptop up now.
@scorpeo
IPTV. Its in its infancy stages right now but services similar to ATT's Uverse will be the future because you can use any IP based device to tune to any channel you pay for. Microsoft showed an interface for Windows Media Center and Xbox 360 coming out soon, removing the need for a set top box. If Google / Microsoft put the software in their smartphones, this could easily be done mobile as well (as long as the hardware is fast enough to play the content or a low res stream is available).
However, this is a nice bridge solution, I like when companies follow through with a full spectrum product that covers home and mobile.
I wonder since I already paid 29.99 from the Apple App store, plus but a key for my windows device if they will charge me again? I am betting on another 29.99 but the price is well worth it. Plus being able to dump AT&T and their crap Chicago network and go back to Sprint is just the change I have been waiting for.
This is pure Awsomness! I've used it on my iPhone but with 4G it should sling a better picture and not be restricted to a grainy pc of @$^# that AT&T has limited it too. As if I needed yet another reason to switch, but this rocks! Bring it on Sling!
More Evo epicness. I mean, what did you expect?
@zeroinfinity2
For it to be "supersonic".
EEEEVVVVVOOOOOO! I LOVE YOU!
A lot of Evo fanboys here...
*raises hand*
@pwnstr
*raise hand*
@pwnstr
both hands raised
@pwnstr
what is there not to like about it? its literally the perfect phone aside from not being available on all carriers. maybe hardware keyboard for some?
@annoyingposter4 Yes hardware keyboard. If only...
@annoyingposter4 I don't think you get it. I'm raising my hand because I AM an EVO fanboy...
Question: The EVO has a built-in stand, but wasn't used. Why?
@derekdevine
Maybe not as stable when also touching the screen, so not good for demos
they should of called this phone EVOL....backwards its LOVE...cause i LOVE me some EVO news!!
What's the point if you already have a kick stand on the Evo? Also, for a first time customer it will cost you $449 to get an Evo 4g w/2yr contract. A tough pill to swallow.

Huh? Where do you get the $449 figure from?
