Android 2.2 wastes no time getting hacked onto HTC Dream and Magic

Though we're not even a wee bit shocked to see a "usable" version of Froyo already available to owners of the G1 / Dream and Magic, we're definitely heartened to see that phones running 2008 specs can handily run a mid-2010 version of the platform. There's plenty of stuff that doesn't work yet -- WiFi and GPS, just to name a couple of biggies -- but we suspect that this is one dev community that won't give up until everything is working to their satisfaction. Motivation to hang on to otherwise outdated hardware for a few more months, perhaps?

This is great. 2.1 is fully working, it won't take long for 2.2 to be working completely.

I agree that the RAM is a bit dated, however the iPad, 3GS, Droid, Desire, N900, and potentially iPhone 4 all have 256mb of RAM too.

Makes you wonder - if hackers can do this in a few days, why are Samsung, Sony Erricsson, HTC and others struggling to do this so much!!!!

@Marko these roms are pretty much stripped some to work on these devices. The manufactures don't really wanna do that. Due to hardware and what not. But seems manufactures are suppose to consider hardware for future updates for now... realizing Google every 6 months updates

Well, technically, since 2.2 runs smooth as butter and faster on newer machines, wouldn't it make sense it would runner rather well on an older device like the dream?
