Boost Mobile confirms it's getting the Motorola i1, basically
Let's be honest -- there was never any real doubt that Boost was going to share the Motorola i1 with parent Sprint, especially after Best Buy went ahead and threw it up early. That said, if you still needed a little extra confirmation just to sleep better at night, look no further than this tweet today from Boost Mobile's official account saying it "is launching an ANDROID next month" and imploring that we all "spread it like wildfire." They don't mention what device it'll be, but clearly it'll be the i1 -- so consider the message spread like wildfire, Boost. Where you at?

.... the i1?
I would think they're talking about the htc wildfire....
I will chirp all my friends....oh wait I don't have 1990s iden technology...hahaha still cool to see android expanding tho
@iancox
No, the Motorola i1...the Android iDEN phone...is what they are talking about. No stinkin' HTC garbage here. Sorry, as much as I like the Evo 4G, I'd sooner buy a Motorola since I know it won't break within 10 minutes of me accidentally dropping it. I've run my Motorola i90c over with my car (again, by accident) and the phone had only a hairline crack by the external antenna, otherwise the phone to this day works just like it did the day I bought it: perfectly.
@emaildejan from what I just read you've never held the hd2 or the evo 4g. These phones are solid and have taken their share of spills in my possesion. I am a proud HTC owner and to yell you the truth, the MOTO Droid felt like a cheap plastic toy compared to my two HTC phones. So if you get the chance buy the evo or the hd2 they are solid phones that just rock.
@emaildejan
Actually, Sprint has relased CDMA phones before on the Boost brand using Sprint's network. Them saying "wildfire" in a sentence could be a good heads up of what is to come. There is some talk on androidguys that the Kyocera Zio might be coming to Boost aswell.
@emaildejan
I don't anticipate running over my phone with my car not even once in my life lol. I shouldn't have to do that to see whether I have a good phone or not. All we care about is whether the phone will work under normal conditions and proper use, not the amount of psi it can withstand. It doesn't matter if your phone is as tough as a brick, if it doesn't work. That isn't to say that Motorola makes bad phones either.
Clearly you're not a fan of HTC nor Sprint since you're the only one who mentioned 4G and WiMax. I'm sorry that you don't live in a 4G/WiMax/LTE area but as time passes on more of us will. I'm close to NYC which doesn't have WiMax coverage yet (before the end of summer though), but that won't stop me from getting the EVO which is still the best 3G phone anyway. On top of that, I don't know which provider you have but every equivalent plan that Verizon or AT&T when compared to Sprint is more money anyway. And those plans will only increase in price with their tier-data plans, which Sprint won't have, and LTE charges (even though it costs them 1/3 of the price to transfer data on 4G rather than 3G). I have a Blackberry with Verizon. I was hesitant to make the switch to Sprint because Verizon's call quality is the best. But they keep raising the data plan prices and ETFs (AT&T too). They're becoming more like evil dictators than companies that are for the consumer.
I guess your best bet right is to wait and get the next Droid made by Motorola. Until that time, there's no need to hate on other good phones that are coming out.
@aswellguy
Actually, I've used my fair share of HTC phones. The HTC Mogul, Touch Diamond, Hero, Touch Pro/2, the myTouch 3G, and Touch. Out of all of them, the ONLY one I've liked so far has been the T-Mobile myTouch 3G. The rest simply felt either too small or were too delicate. Heck, even the Mogul's touchscreen ended up cracking after being dropped less than 2 feet onto a carpeted floor! However, I am looking forward to trying out the HD2.
As for the Evo 4G...sorry, I have no desire to pay MORE for WiMAX services when WiMAX coverage barely covers 10M pops as is. To me, it's a non-starter. The phone may have great specs, but I'll happily keep my money.
The Moto Droid actually is owned by my sister. She loves it (she dumped her LG Dare...ugh...now that was a LOUSY phone) and it's as solid as a rock...and she doesn't take care of her phones anywhere nearly as well as I try to.
@ComeShot
Hmmm...I didn't think of new releases on CDMA side of Boost. Good point. However, in this case, the phone that they are talking about is most assuredly the Motorola i1. But more CDMA-based Boost phones would probably be a good idea. The only problem is this:
Why would I want to be a post-paid user when I can get everything (except TV) as a pre-paid for only $60 flat? The only thing I'd miss is this lousy "4G" garbage that Sprint is claiming: current WiMAX is 802.16e (already listed as 3.5G, NOT 4G). 4G WiMAX would be 802.16m.
But back to the point, I'll keep an eye out for newer Boost CDMA phones...could be interesting.
