Motorola Droid 2 found in Verizon system, keyboard makes an online cameo? (update: specs)
Update: Droid Life has what it claims to be a screencap from the Verizon inventory system showing the M1955, a.k.a. Droid 2, hanging out in Ontario, California. Easily fakeable? You betcha, but it's not like the Droid name is going to any other carrier. Interesting food for thought.
Update 2: The original source of the image just got back to us with some purported specs -- and yet again, let's remind you that we can't confirm any of this yet. What we've heard: it's out in the field for testing purposes, it has a 3.7-inch screen, is nearly identical to the original Droid in size and shape, and is chrome instead of black (though that might just be the prototype). And in case you weren't convinced yet, this is definitely not the same as the Shadow.

looks like the buttons feel like n900s
@Myst3ry The AT&T Touch Pro keyboard has 5 rows of keys, this one has 4... That's a pretty big difference.
@Peter F Yeah, now it does look a lot like the Fuze keyboard
Am I the only one who noticed that "OK" button to the top right of the direction keys? Since when does Android have an OK button on it? Also, where's the menu button? Am I taking crazy pills or something? I have no idea what phone this would be, but I'm feeling like this is an old windows mobile keyboard photoshoped to look like an android keyboard.
@zachavm The OK button acts like the button in the middle of the dpad on the Droid I. That's my guess anyway.
@EggoEspada
Still doesn't explain the lack of Menu button. That's the most essential button and certainly more important than a dedicated voice search key.
@Tes Yea. I was confused about why that was taken out.
They made some mistakes here with the keyboard. But hopefully its still gonna be good quality.
@EggoEspada Don't count out the possibility that this could be faked, however unlikely it may seem.
Looks alot like my N900 keyboard
Save some phones for December/January, Verizon! So, ya know, when my contract is up, i can get a top of the line phone!
Culd this realy be the new keboard? From what I have herd, from past articles on engadget about the droid, the screen size will be(maybe) a 4.1 screen? And this keyboard looks to be the same size and deminions as the original droid. But maybe its just my eyes messing with me since the 2nd picture is a bit slanted.
@saldojo I dont think it'll be 4.1. The Shadow/Extreme is the one with 4. 1.
@EggoEspada: Ah I see. But what about the other rumored phone? The M...? What of the size screen for that?
Bring it out already!
@hated one Thats fine. Enjoy your toy...
I'm hoping this has tegra 2 in it. I'm holding out for something better than a snapdragon for my next phone, and thus far every single high-end phone just has a snapdragon.
@ApocalypseGuppy Since when is snapdragon not good enough? It is the standard right now and you will have to wait awhile before every manufacturer puts it in their device thus making it old.
that kind of looks like the n900s keyboard...
boo. I was hoping US Cellular was going to get a Droid phone (but I will be able to get an Android phone!)
OK button....its like windows mobile all over again!
Aww, I want that keyboard.
3.7inch screen! Bummer, i am going for the shadow or the incredible!!
@Rimz007
The Droid Incredible is 3.7 inches as well
@AlienSix Yeah, but i like sense... :)
Why is it not a 4" screen?
I had a droid by motorola but never used the keyboard that much. I was faster and more accurate at the touchscreen. Got the droid by htc and it's awesome. Can't ever go back to the physical keyboard. Plus it's bulky as hell
You could have actually put that "chin" to use, thrown a touchpad on it that's usable when the keyboard is slide in or slide out, and dropped the d-pad rather then replacing it with arrow keys (which are just as big of a waste IMO), but hey, it's an improvement. Curious to see what the rest of the specs are.
The layout is great, but the keys are still flat and cramped together. A nice keyboard like a Blackberry would be great.
i really hope this is the droid 2 and that it comes out in july. i've been waiting forever to upgrade my phone and i really want android os. i'm still using the old lg dare lol. i almost bought the first droid but the keyboard really annoyed me. this one looks much better :)
Looks soo much better...that awful gold thing on the keypad was the only thing keeping me from liking this phone
Still no apostrophe key (without shift)?
The update two it's a fake and gay.
I don't think Moto seeing as HTC and Samsung are coming out with phones with 4+ inches is gonna drop the second version of their best selling phone in years just the exact same way the first one came out, besides, the Shadow is 4.1in. why would they do the Droid 3.7in.
I came here cause it's not EVO 4g
Maybe, but I'm skeptical. The biggest charge on the Droid keyboard was that the buttons weren't raised enough... those look slightly raised, but hardly at all.
That looks MUCH, much better.
Excelent, now give me Milestone 2
Meh
They've messed it up already. The arrow keys are dumb...they need to keep the directional pad.
We are basing this info on this one picture? I can easily see this being a hoax. Why would someone not take a picture of the entire phone? There is no branding and no visible labeling. Based on the orientation and angle of this photo there should be a charging port slightly visible on the bottom right but there is none. My money says this is a hoax.
That's an impression keyboard
This keyboard is 10 times better than the original. It wasnt the keys, although those werent the greatest, it was the offset. That keyboard was set so far to the left, it was impossible to comfortably type with your right thumb. Still, Im fine on virtual keyboard so the bulk you get with the droid isnt worth it. I'll stick with the Inc.
@VZWGuy people said that about the shadow found in the gym and it being photoshopped. They turned out real. Just wait... well see a full pic soon.
If it runs at 1GHz and (this is extremely likely) is still Android, I'll buy it.
Otherwise, I'll probably just pick up a Milestone on the cheap.
Wait I have a question my droid has the same raised keyboard. I saw some other lady with a droid with the flat keyboard. i got my like day one though. Is that odd or did they change the keyboard? I mean my keyboard still has the gold D-pad but the keys are raised just like the one in this pic.
I see a lot of extra space to the right and left of the keyboard. Couldn't they have stretched the thing out a little more, and maybe added a 5th row of keys for numbers along the top? Don't get me wrong what they have done is a huge improvement, but there is still room for improvement.
