Pandigital Novel e-reader / handheld hits the FCC
Pandigital's already manage to at least pique our interest with its Android-based Novel e-reader / handheld, and it looks like the device has now reached one more milestone on the road to availability -- it's just turned up at the FCC. As you can see, the particular device undergoing testing is black (not white as the final version will apparently be), and the FCC unfortunately doesn't give us much of a look of that bright 7-inch LCD in the on position. It has, however, given us a glimpse of the device's insides, subjected it to the usual battery of tests, and kindly provided us with the device's user manual -- though there's not too many surprises in there at this point. Hit up the link below for all that and more.

android ehh?
So, an E-reader with LCD and Android? sounds like a tablet to me... Is there a touchscreen?
Another iPad competitor running Android? Meh.
@Maybach For the 100th freaking time. Apple did not create tablets. They have been around for over 10 years. Not every tablet is a competitor to the iPad. Most have been in development before the iPad idea was even leaked.
So just STFU and go and suck the iPad's cock. At least then you can keep saying stupid shit.
GOD.
@p0p0 Before the iPad, tablets were shitty little stylus-using screens with a barely usable full OS crammed on. It's not to far fetched to consider this an iPad competitor as it runs a mobile OS.
Plus, just because the iPad isn't the first ever tablet, it dosen't mean other products aren't competing with it.
Tablets before the iPad were failures, and whether or not you like it, the iPad isn't - the sales numbers speak for themselves, people have voted with their wallets.
I feel like there are so many tablets coming out, some sub-par, and it is going to tarnish Androids name because the hardware doesn't satisfy the software..........
@izmar not saying that this will be a bad product at all! Just some general speculation
Meh.
Nice "Made in Japan" ruler there, FCC. Couldn't find an American one?
This is the form factor (other than courier) I've been hoping for. Looks intriguing. I just wish it would support Froyo, or better. Anyone have an explanation on why so many of these are coming with 1.5 and non upgradable?
@justlooking I read that this is coming with android 2.0 and there's already a firmware upgrade on the Pandigital website for the reader.
@mafutha Awesome! Thanks for letting me know.
@justlooking Wow this does look awesome, but I just realized we have no idea how much this is going to cost.
@justlooking Retails for $199 but might go as low as $170-$180. I have the money ready to get it once it's out. It's almost like using my Cliq phone but no mic and bigger. They are say that the next firmware update will let you install apps. There is a new firmware on their website but I have no Idea which version of Android it is.
Looks....magical.
So, an e-book book with an LCD? Yawn. I may as well download the kindle app.
@CaptainOblivious Just think about the ability of installing the Kindle app for android on this once it's released.......
@hated one
No, it says a lot about the average population of America...
