RAmos W7 Android MID is alive and shipping (in China)
It's been a long strange trip for the onetime "mystery MID," but now it looks like the RAmos W7 is finally finding its way to customers. According to Pocketables, the Android 1.5 device is selling for 999 yuan (about $146), which isn't bad seeing as how they've gone on eBay for four times that -- although the price suggests that the rumored 3G connectivity is a non-starter. Whatever the case, we'll definitely keep our eyes peeled for a stateside appearance.

looks good, great price... specs?
@clos1084 : 4.8-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, a 600MHz Rockchip RK2808 processor and 8GB of storage, Android 1.5, selling for 999 yuan (about $146).
If it were 7 inches I would be very interested. (That's what blah blah)
@One Love Same price on the actual cost of iPad!!!
Made in China assembled by foxconn.
@clos1084
Better off with the dell streak?
@One Love Agreed. The closest 7" is the one selling as the Rockchip Apad http://www.hiapad.com/ but that's resistive not well supported internationally. Same price though.
@clos1084
With a price like that I could see someone picking this up if they want to give Android a spin or if they're not eligible to upgrade their phone.
Though it is running 1.5 (and does it not have the Market since it's a MID?), but all it needs is some rooting to fix that :D
@andthemaniam
I feel sorry for the people who paid $500 for this a couple months ago. but not too sorry.
@xaueious I am thinking about buying this:

@xaueious Or the Archos 7 Home Tablet.
@Firehazel Archos 7 Home is $200. Rockchip Apad is $150.
@One Love only 4.8 inch, ownta freeshipping this to worldwide, check its video: http://www.ownta.com/ramos-w7-mid-with-andoird-system-and-wifi-function-8gb.html
Looks pretty sexy.
@Jeremiah Looks like an iPad. Is Apple everyone's R&D facility?
@koopatroopa
Yes Apple is everyone's R&D, but common things that you have already purchased are Apples. My monitor looks like an iPad too.
Oh dear, they are mocking up the Apple again. Can't they design something if their own? Interestingly, the iPad design and trademark is held by a Chinese company in the China territory, so this is their original and Apple mocked them up? Lol
@Keangadget This was before the iTampon. Lay off.
@xaueious no matter who comes first, it still looks like a iTampon, having said that, I am by no means fond of apples, durians maybe
@Keangadget This thing was first shown off in Sept. 2009. Do you remember when the iPad was revealed?
@Luffy if you have watched the sex and city 2 before the world premier on a Chinese site you shall be aware the official releasing date doesn't really bother them, but this wasn't my point, I am hoping there will be devices that you don't have to turn it on to see it's an android. Android is unique, so should the devices running it.
@Keangadget While I'd agree, the Ramos W7 is pretty unique. It also has a lot more buttons and a lot less bezel.
I just sent this in too!

how log is battery life? is it possible to read books on this size screen?
@engaged It depends. But IMO 4.8" is decent reading on a device...
@EggoEspada agreed, does anyone know if Google is planning on a Bookmarket?
Looks like a giant iPod.
Can't wait to see a rom for this on http://www.androidtechnical.info They already have Android 2.2 for MyTouch and G1 and can be used via "A4D Mobile Utility"
Ra ra ra-a-a, ro-ma, ro-ma-ma, ga-ga ooh la-la
I would rather buy a refurbish ipod touch than this device. It is only slightly bigger than the the ipod touch and questionable post-sale service.
it is selling $198
