Sirius XM Android app hits the Market
That's right, we're downloading the brand new Sirius XM app to our favorite, not-at-all-fragmented Android handset as we speak. Sure, we don't actually have a paid satellite radio subscription, but if you hit up the source link you can sign up for 7 days free while you multitask it up against Robo Defense on your own phone. There's no mention on the download page of specific handset compatibility, so let us know if you have any trouble running the app on that Motoblur phone your mom bought you.

Runs very well on Nexus One (Froyo). Great looking app, and a 7 day trial for anyone. Not bad at all.

Ellismate to my phone? Today is awesome!
@JohnnyRocketpants gotta love Ellismate
@scoobydooby
Only time I'd use it is in my car, and I already have XM in my car. But I think I'll toy around with it for a while just to see how it is.
@scoobydooby
works great on a G1 (2.1)
too bad the sat service quality (audio) is still terrible. the internet version is ok though but not great. it still uses a low quality codec compared to other services (rhapsody)
"so let us know if you have any trouble running the app on that Motoblur phone your mom bought you."
ahahahaha nice :D
@Forphucsake Tsk tsk mom, time to step your gadget game up.
yippie!!
time for me to see if I can run this on my antique G1 and hope for it to not catch on fire.... again
Awesome. Loving my Nexus One more and more everyday. BTW, Froyo is amazing.
@Vandam500 *Spills water on your nexus one*
oops my bad, but lets see if your Nexus One can beat my G1 in benchmark tests now ;)
I love how this article was written lol.
Still can't get Howard so what's the sense. It's
all BS! I'd guess 60% of people who have SiriusXM have it for Howard and yet ya can't get it on these apps. SUCKS! Can't wait till my subscription runs out or Howard retires. This media will be gone 6 months later.
@Cptnpicard It really annoys me, it's the only thing holding me back from a purchase.
@Cptnpicard What year is this? 1990? Howard is about as relevent as FM radio
@Cptnpicard agreed. Sattelite radio might survive, if they expand to cover EU, Asia and Africa - there might be a much higher demand for such services in Siberia, for example.
@Cptnpicard
Howard is an idiot, my XM is for music. I know, it's a novel concept. I'd say your 60% estimate is a bit high. No one I know with more than 3 brain cells left listens to him anymore.
@Cptnpicard - Someone should call Stern and (Don B.) and ask why they are cock-blocking his content in these Apps. It is Stern exploiting a contract loop hole looking for more CA$H not Sirius...
@Cptnpicard
You can get playboy though :D
@Frankenstein Black
I agree 100%
@Frankenstein Black From what I have read it is Stern himself that is keeping his content from these apps (at least the iPhone one). If you know Stern at all it definitely sounds like something he would do. Maybe now that Howard owns an iPad he will open up a little and allow his content on more outlets.
I can't find the app. Can y'all post a name or link or something?
@clownboytad http://www.siriusxm.com/app-download/android/siriusxm.apk
@clownboytad I cant find it either.. someone needs to throw up a barcode or something
I have a Sirius sub but can't find the freaking link for existing subs
@grydlok For me it was in the final stage of "sign up for a trial", there is a checkbox for "existing subscribers".
@scoobydooby
Thanks I see it now.
@grydlok
ok it works on a mytouch 3g just not fast
@grydlok works fine on my mt3g (1gen)
My mommy's getting me a Evo 4G ;)
@pbp8ntballer She's giving me her panties.
@Slvrgun Zing!!! Envious hateration FTW!
@Slvrgun
and that's all you're ever gonna get, kid
@Slvrgun Lol wut?
Hey, I just searched the market and there is no trace of "sirius", "xm", or "sirius xm" on the market. Should I be searching for something else? I am running on Froyo.
@negrobello
It's not showing up in the market yet. download it straight from sirius site
@negrobello Use the source link in this article, it brings you to their page where you put in your email address and SiriusXM will send you the link to download it.
Works great on my Incredible btw!
@negrobello Yeah it doesn't seem like its on the market. Go to siriusxm.com/android on your phone and it'll give you an APK
No Howard, no buy.
@Jake Root I'm really not sure why they don't let you stream Stern on the phones. Its on the internet streaming, why not the phones?
@Jake Root
this
@Jake Root
For existing subscribers, don't bother with the Sirius app. It restricts the content and doesn't give you what you pay for!!
Get PocketTunes instead! It costs a few bucks, but it's definitely worth it. With pockettunes, you get every channel that sirius offers online, instead of just what they allow for mobile apps.
Hi
Where is Pocketunes? thanks!
Ok Just installed on DROID by Motorola... Man this app cuts, pops, and skips a lot! I thinking they implemented RTSP streaming technology... Audio quality does not even compete with other streaming apps... such as xiialive... and others...
@cheto That's what you get for buying Motorola.
Who needs a paid subscription to music when you already have pandora and slacker?
You should mention that you can't get it on the Market, as it's not available there yet. You need to follow the Source link to the Sirius/XM page where you can get them to email you a download link, or go to siriusxm.com/android to get the app. You also need to have a Premium subscription, meaning if you don't have the option to listen to web streams you won't be able to use this until you do.
Thanks Chorca...I couldn't find it.
@Chorca Yep that's so users can't give it a bad rating... cause its actually a bad app...
So besides Stern, what does Sirius XM offer that streaming internet radio can't?
(or can you not stream internet radio on Android???)
