Wi-Fi Sync is quite the gem (at least
we think so) but it had some limitations -- namely, it only worked on OS X for desktop, and only with iPhone / iPod touch. Developer Greg Hughes pinged us earlier today to let us know he's thrown the gates off such restrictions. The jailbroken app now works for both iPads and Windows -- XP, Vista, and 7. The desktop client is free to download but it still cost just a hair under $10 for the appropriate mobile device. Worth the price of breaking free from wires? Your call.
hmm tough decision, dunno if its worth the 10 bucks
@StevetheTeddy
There are rumours that this app "phones home" to the dev and disables/deletes all "pirated" music and apps on your device when syncing. Can not confirm it myself but interested in what others have found out. If so, no, not worth $10 for a spying big brother....
@Almo
There's no realisitc way to tell that music has been pirated vs. backed up from your own CDs. So I'd say that rumor sounds suspect.
@Almo A roll of tinfoil for your head would be better for you than this application anyway.
@benjgvps
It's not a joke, there are reports of this happening on several community forums...
@StevetheTeddy I think it is worth it, but does it need itunes? Or can ot sync with other software(media monkey) cus' itunes does playback skipping on my i touch
@StevetheTeddy The developer of this app has stated (on his twitter and at least one forum) that cracked versions of this app might mess with your music library. I don't know if that's true or not, but that kind of scare tactic shys me away from using it at all.
@CodeRed
No, he issued a statement saying this wasn't true.
I can def. confirm that the cracked version DOES indeed phone home and you are shown a webpage saying that it's a cracked version, that it will be shown only once, and that he hopes you enjoy it enough to purchase the app. THEN IT SENDS YOUR PHONES UDID.
Put 127.0.0.1 secure.getwifisync.com in your hosts file and you are all set.
@Almo
Wow, wireless sync. Does this mean that the iPad can actually function w/o being plugged into a real computer, such as a netbook? Come on, keep trying to convince me this isn't the most expensive peripheral device ever, Apple.
@CodeRed
Why?
First of all, the developer of this application never planned for it to be released vid Cydia...He spend all that time, hard work, and energy on this, just so Apple could shit on his face and flush him down the toilet, for absolutely NO good reason? You're lucky we're getting this app at all, quite frankly.
Also, Jailbreakers are known to be into piracy -- I'm not saying EVERYONE who Jailbreaks downloads pirated or cracked apps (I for one do not and I have a jailbroken iPad), but the two do go hand in hand (ie -- you NEED to Jailbreak if you want to install pirated apps).
While I do think it is a bit extreme (I would rather implement code that pops up nag boxes and won't let you delete the application until you pay -- don't wanna pay, then have fun getting a nag box popup every 5 minutes), the dev is well within his right to make sure he is compensated for his hard work.
Want someone to blame? Blame apple -- I'm sure the proposed AppStore version of WiFi-Sync didn't have any music-fucker-upper functions in it :P
@StevetheTeddy
FYI all, I purchased this app and it works awesome on XP.
Another interesting side effect to wifi sync is that DiskAid works wirelessly now!!! That to me is SO worth the 10$, but unpon reflection, the dev *really* should re-do the app and make it trialware, and use some sort of activation technology so theres no malicious code.
@StevetheTeddy
sry to the dev but i still got to plug in to charge the battery so its not of interest to me yet
if and when devices have wireless charging then this app would be create to replace the data cable
Now lets see how many people will actually use this. Im just curious
@Darth Vadar
If the app has some kind of trial period where I can see if its something I'd like to pay for or not, I'd try it out to see if I'd use it, but without that (and with me no longer using my iPhone on a daily) it really isn't worth the risk.
@BigJayDogg3
It will (is) available for free ("trial") cracked from the usual places. The issue is rumours of it disabling non legit content on your device.
@BigJayDogg3 you can get the cracked version for free just use google type in 2 words wifisync cracked ;)
@hamzah38
I know I can get a cracked version. No application this high profile would remain uncracked. But my thing is when devs do this it makes me think why are you trying to lock me into your application? Does it suck so bad that you have to "trick" me into buying your app?
At that point I don't buy based on principle alone. An app this expensive should have a trial in my opinion.
Best app. Works like a charm. Wifi syncing works but a little slow. Worth it though
I think I can manage walking a few steps to the computer to SYNC it.
Sync it wireless on 3G, now there's something I'll be interested in!!
But on AT&T it might take a few hours
/sarcasm
Worth it.
Wake me when they get support for Windows 95.

I'm not sure I see the appeal here. It's not the same as an over the air sync, it's not pushing songs to your phone, you have to initiate sync from your computer still right? I guess you can start syncing and walk away with your phone, but you still cant leave wifi range. I'm not sure that I get it.
@billedluh You initiate it by launching the app on your iPhone...but yeah, you have to be in range and remain in range until it finishes syncing.
@billedluh No, you just open the app, it shows up in iTunes and starts syncing. Pretty cool.
Not worth $10. I have it.(free) Most times it works just fine. Others, its takes forever to recognize my iPhone. But not that bad.
@EagleyeSmith do you have a 64 bit machine? coz i do and it dont fucking pick up my iphone but on my 32 bit machine it does...any ideas?
Weird, my Zune HD came with wireless sync out of the box.
@CaramelZappa Haha me too, and I didn't have to pay anything extra. Zune HD rocks!
@CaramelZappa
So what? My iPad has a 10" screen. My HP tablet runs iTunes. Are we just going to keep listing irrelevant facts?
I have to agree, I'm not going to pay 10 dollars to sync slower lol but I guess it could be a useful app to some people who have problems pluging in a cord and like to sync even slower then before.
Does anyone think two way, over the air syncing could be accomplished using a VPN network or SSH and a VNC or Remote Desktop app?
@XanInfinity yeah you can use backgrounder to put the wifisync app into the background then use logmein to access your computer...seeing as though you do have a jailbroken iphone you might aswell use cracked apps so its all for free.
@XanInfinity Should be as easy as running a VPN server at home (you can do this through your router easily with DD-WRT or TomatoVPN), configuring the iPhone to use that VPN via Settings.app, and running the Wi-Fi Sync app.
wow, great!

learn some more, "Tips to Turn iPad Wifi Into 3G" shows the tips on how to get your iPad WiFi connected to 3G: http://www.ifunia.com/ipad-column/tips-to-turn-ipad-wifi-into-3g.html
It's really impractical and his mac client is really buggy. Whenever I try to sync my iTunes freezes up for about a minute. Also then when I try syncing via cable for those big movies/tv shows it gets really messed up and I start getting all these error messages. Also last thing the Wi-fi sync software for Mac (idk about windows yet) screws up restore.
Its handy but way too buggy right now for it's 10 dollar price
In order for this to be useful, wouldn't you have to leave your computer on all the time? That seems colossally wasteful given how infrequently you'll sync. If you let your computer sleep, then you're going to have to go to your computer and wake it up anyway. In that case, why not just plug it into the USB cable and sync that way, and faster? I'm just not sure I get the appeal of wireless sync.
$10 is CHEAP if it works... my only real concern is what happens with the 4.0 that will be dropping very soon and will it work with the new phone i buy next month. Just seems like bad timing.
Here's what wireless sync should be:
1) You boot your computer. It's set to autostart iTunes.
2) iTunes detects you have iPod/iPhone/iPad connected wirelessly without booting up any apps on those devices.
3) iTunes compares the last time you synced the device with period of time you want it to sync. IE: You set it to sync every 24 hours, it does so.
4)You can stop wireless sync at any time, just like regular sync.
If it does not do all of these things, wireless sync is a big failure, because it's that much easier to connect a cable and be done with it.
Here's to waiting for a real wireless sync implementation. Cheers.
It simply does NOT work well enough to warrant the $10 charge and I am annoyed that I have been duped.
The reason it does not come as trialware is because you would not purchase it after you've had chance to see how poorly it works.
iTunes locks up for about 2 minutes, then it says "verifying" for another 2 minutes, then syncing or creating a backup is painfully slow. You simply would not choose this option over a wired sync, so save your money until the dev team gets it right.
I personally think Apple only refused to list in the app store because its so poor.
Already deleted it and wasted 10 bucks!
