@zorro -- "win 7 doesnt look to shabby on this device"
... until you open up any Windows app... and it looks like the same ol' Windows.
I can do things 100 times easier with a mouse and keyboard on Windows. Edit some web page code in Dreamweaver... switch over to Photoshop to edit a graphic... switch to Filezilla to upload...
I wouldn't wanna be doing all that work with my fingers or a stylus... or have an on-screen keyboard popping up every time I wanna use a keyboard shortcut.
Sorry... Windows works best with a mouse and keyboard... no matter how well it's dressed up.
@Michael Scrip When are all these people screaming keyboard and mouse at Tablet wakeup to the 21st century? If you need keyboard and mouse affixed to your tablet, then buy a freaking netbook or laptop! Tablets are made for people that know how to use a tablet, it is a mobile data/web consumption device! If you need to write long article on a word processor then get a tablet stand + usb or bluetooth keyboard/mouse or do it on your desktop at home!
Why do you make it seem like someone is forcing you to use the Eee Pad to "Edit some web page code in Dreamweaver... switch over to Photoshop to edit a graphic... switch to Filezilla to upload"??
Grow the f**k up and comment wisely. This is clearly not made for 3D super graphic movie productions. It is simply what a tablet is: a fully functional OS giving you freedom in a touch screen device to minimize input methods and give you a light wight portable PC to do your everyday entertainment, meetings and school doses, and if it does stuff like paint on Photoshop then it is simply a win.
there is NO danger that laptops will go away, just like desktops haven't gone away because of laptops, just like dumbphones haven't gone away because of smart phones. if you are not interested in tablets then move on, and let those of us interested in them drool.

When did I say it was?
My point is... if I get a Windows tablet... I'll be tempted to do all of the things I do on Windows. And most of that is not geared towards finger-input... so I just won't use those programs.
If I'm only use this thing to browse the web... why have Windows at all? This tablet is probably gonna be $500... and $100 of that is the Windows license.
This tablet *can* run any Windows program I want... but *will* I run any Windows program on it?
@Michael Scrip Michaels right somethings are not ment to be and tablets have a small market for real world uses but those uses are best served by tablets and not the PC which has always been a jack of all trades. This has always been the point of the question "is there a market for such a device.?" It doesnt fit with what Michael wants to use a computer for. There is however one area in my line of work were a tablet will actually save money for the company and truely free some staff from the desk in every sence.
@Michael Scrip i'd like to use my tablet to run in-house software. you know, stuff like financial quotation software, product quotation software that a company create in-house to help their sales team come up with proper price qoutes. i can't run these on an iPad, a windows CE or any mobile OSes, but i'm sure i could run these on a windows 7. I think there would be thousand other software like these in the wild, custom in-house, built for the laptop, but does not really require the processing power. it'll be great on these light-weight tablets as we sales guys tend to move about meeting people.
at a weight below 1 kg and battery life of 10 hours per charge, these could really lighten things up.
this is why i'm so excited with these eee pad. i could run legacy software my company use, and my company do not need to reengineer the old software to run on the new fangled pads and droids.. gee-whiz i sound like an old-timer.
The Chromebooks are here, starting with Samsung's Series 5, a cute little number that promises instant-on access, 3G connectivity, and long enough battery life to web surf with the best of 'em.

@Infinity I don't think you understand what Michael Scrip was saying. He wasn't saying tablets suck he was saying windows in a tablet form sucks.
@Saad
My guess? He wanted a MacTablet, instead he got an iPad.
Now seeing Windows fans getting a real tablet, he's pouting.
@Infinity
couldn't have said it better,
