Commodore USA unveiling Eee Keyboard rival?
We're not sure where things stand as far as Barry Altman's rights to the Commodore name, but a little red tape isn't going to stop this Commodore fanatic (and all-around good guy) from moving onwards and upwards with his Commodore USA venture. Recently, a photo of a keyboard PC with resistive touchscreen popped up on the company's website, labeled Commodore Invictus. Details are scant, but a certain "BigBentheAussie" over at the amigaworld.net forums is really excited by the thing. Apparently, this Eee Keyboard-doppleganger sports an Intel Atom processor, wireless HDMI, NVIDIA ION chipset, and five hours of battery life -- in addition to the aforementioned touchscreen display. Currently there is no price, street date, or detailed spec sheet available, but we're sure that all will be revealed in due time.

C'mon... give me a price Commodore! This better not be the same bull you tried pulling with those Desktops. No one is going to pay $1,000 for your PC in a keyboard. But seriously, this is the ultimate living room PC.
@Smurf Meh. Needs a bigger screen. Like something wide over the keyboard, not a 4" screen next to it.
@guitarkid So... a laptop? Or a netbook?
@Smurf So if the gadget is chinese it's a KIRF and if it's american is "rival"?.
Say what you will but this an Eee keyboard KIRF!
@Drago A KIRF is something that directly mimics a product, usually while stealing the name or looking VERY similar.
Calling this a KIRF of the Eee Keyboard would be like calling a Toshiba Laptop a KIRF of a HP Laptop.
@Smurf
It needs wireless HDMI before I buy it. I want it to send all of my shows to my tv. Kind of like Google TV and Android phones.
@bravokiloromeo Or you could place a laptop/desktop with mediacenter software near the tv, connect them with HDMI and wireless send your input to it. You know, remote control and/or a bluetooth keyboard/mouse. Needs a million times less bandwidth than sending the video output over the air and the battery's last way longer than 5 hours max.
Seems more logical to me.
@IcyStorm No, DUUH. I'm saying that a keyboard with a widescreen over the keys would be good.
@Drago
True , but on the other handside the Asus "rival" is still firmly in vaporware land, so I for one welcome the possibility of finally being (maybe) able to buy what I think could be a perfect 2nd HTPC for bedroom use.
@Drago
Yeah! And my Samsung i5 laptop is Osborne KIRF!!!
Rival or immitation?
...Why?!
Screen on the keyboard should have a C64 Emulator.
cause the original sells so well.
American KIRF!!! How the world has changed
@hotfusion KIRF implies it looks similar
one looks like a keyboard and a KIRF iTouch the other a laptop with no screen
looks better than the eee keyboard
This thing is asking for MeeGo or Froyo, and I'm inclined to oblige.
Amiga .... Come Forth !!!
I'm sorry but any keyboard that doesn't have a numeric keypad isn't interesting to me. I -could- learn to better type using the other numbers but that seems like a lot of work.
Eee 64?
Everything old is new again. This is so reminiscent of the TRS-80 I started programming on a couple decades ago.
Is it just me or is the display on the wrong side of the keyboard? It should be on the left!
Dunno why, I also felt the same way when I saw the eee keyboard.
@GmanC I think that he screen should be there in any case. What's for?
Stupid and useless invention...
They still exist? And btw Asus will totally win this war. They just can't match the beauty.
a keyboard PC? *dies*
How are these good HTPCs?
Unless you have a wireless way to get the video stream to the TV, this sucks balls. A much better design is a nettop hooked up directly to the TV, with wireless peripherals (airmouse-remote and keyboard is my fav).
@Ducman69
"...wireless HDMI..."
@Wolfticket Oh... yeah... well then, I downrank myself. *embarrassed*
only n00bs look at the keyboard
Wow a keyboard with a 5 hour battery life. That sounds incredibly useful.
I want Amiga to come back! I want a PC attached to my keyboard where I can use it in the living room connecting to my TV!..And I want that keyboard to be a capacitive touch screen actually lol!
why aren't these being made for lefties? it's quite odd to assume that everyone will want to use their right hand for the touch screen.
I would rather have a masive multi-touch track pad on a keyboard than the resistive touch screen
Folks thinking this is a KIRF should learn their history: Commodore has been around befoire any others ( Apple, Microsoft,you name them ) . However , I'm far more excited about the new Amiga which is coming along just fine. Check out the developments with regard to AROS , http://www.osnews.com/story/23379/IMICA_Becomes_Aros_Fully_Native_Celebrates_in_Silence
The entire concept of these new Amigas is different from any other system out there and they could once again be at the fore-front of innovation. This gadget has nothing to do with Amiga or the old Commodore though , the bloke just bought the right to use the Commodore name/logo . Watch the folks making that new Amiga instead.
I am eagerly waiting for the release of this keyboard. I hope its price suits my pocket.

I'll only buy it if I have to type:
LOAD "*",8,1
Like any other Commodore announcement lately. I don't think it will be released at all :)
But atleast, new Amiga's roll out. Just not from Commodore. :)
looks a bit like the asus eee keyboard is it very same with the commodore name?
ment is it the same. keyboard but in black
