Remember that viral video being made for the then secret Nokia N8 codenamed Vasco? The one leaked in a tweet. Well, here it is, a mixture of impressive foosball skill and even more impressive CGI animation. Was it worth the wait?
@SolidSnake The only CGI that I can see in this video is the displayed content on the N8 when it's connected to the TV. That doesn't sound very impressive to me, Thomas. Or am I missing something obvious? The foosball is all real.
Right, the foosball is all real. Wow. Just wow. Its why they did it, I understand, but still, you fell for it? The phone on the other hand looks great.
It looks like they didn't use the N8 to film it, so, what's the point? The vid looks awesome, but I want to see that 720p camcorder on the N8 put to work.
@HotDog Maybe they do use it to record the ad, after all Nokia camera phones have been used to record movies (N93), Music Videos (N95 and 5800) and there is a N8 video on youtube that looks shoot by a profesional camera http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JhKK7ir2wM
@JFH This isn't the lone commercial for the N8. I'm sure there will be some for the camera later. Nokia isn't a one trick pony. We just never see these ads in the US because carriers won't allow it.
@sockatume What Tom meant was that the making of the video was leaked earlier on in a tweet; now that Nokia has finally released the video, how do you like it?
@Thomas Ricker It's impressive because it's NOT CGI. You can see it in the making of. On the other hand the commercial itself doesn't impress me at all.
Watch it here http://www.youtube.com/user/nokia --- I didn't know this was possible in youtube before? (A big window showing the original youtube video in addition to a small one (N8 shape) with a small video running through it). This a new thing, however I am not going to forgive Google for the new youtube design (It's sucks).
@Sp4mer I didn't mean the channel design (This one I really like it). I meant the place where you can see youtube's comment and stuff like that. I am not sure about you guys, but youtube new design really bad.
Sweet, but they should have actually shown more of the phone besides foosball tricks...hey whatever gets ppls attention tho...if it works, great, if not, then fail.
@xdeiri Practice practice practice. It's really quite amazing what you can do if you have too much time. We used to play this at school like all day everyday and you learn tricks while doing it. Things that are just unreal if you see them the first time. Though we couldn't do the stuff like kicking the ball out of the arena, but the quick moves over the ground were not that big of a deal. Also depends on wich table you use whether or not you can do certain tricks.
There are quite large competitions in foosball, with official tables and balls and such. Quite fun to look at or compete in.
@Kabs lol.. it's one painful wait >.< had my 2.5 year old N82's LCD screen cracked a few days ago cause it was in my hand while i fell.. My plan is gona be over in 2 weeks time and i want my N8 now lol XD
@WilliamNighthawk Damn it comment system.... Let's try this again.
Besides the people, because while the tricks in the video are CGI, the person in the video is a legend and can actually preform those tricks. The tricks are real.
This is how Nokia connects with people. Foosball is popular in many places, and the guy doing the trick shots is popular. Showing this with the phone sprinkled in is cool in many ways.
This isn't just a phone commercial. Its also an exhibition of this guy's talents, sponsored by Nokia and the new N8. Brilliant catching magic with a magical device in tow.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Pretty badass.
They should have shown the ease of output and picture quality more though.....
Seems like it was produced in one day !!

@Nokia N900

@HotDog To highlight the hdmi out
@SolidSnake They should have *not* shown that this was a Nokia running that older-than-dirt Symbian OS with an interface from the 1990s.
@SolidSnake They cheated. Take a look at the trick where the football goes up on the side. Red is defending both times!
@crichton007 I'm assuming you're an Apple fanboy, who'd prefer your crippled as hell Unix?
@HotDog Maybe they do use it to record the ad, after all Nokia camera phones have been used to record movies (N93), Music Videos (N95 and 5800) and there is a N8 video on youtube that looks shoot by a profesional camera http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JhKK7ir2wM
I like it, but they should have focused more on the phone....
@JFH

@christexaport
Good thing I am not in the US then, this year at least. :)
I'm not sure this counts as a leak. For one thing, it's an official release. For another, it's a handset we already know about.
@sockatume
What Tom meant was that the making of the video was leaked earlier on in a tweet; now that Nokia has finally released the video, how do you like it?
beats the kin adverts
No.
@Thomas Ricker
It's impressive because it's NOT CGI. You can see it in the making of.

Don't know about the phone - but those foosball shots are AMAZING!
this is actually real, WTH...amazing
its pretty cool though, but i doubt it will go viral

@Sp4mer
They're using flash to do it :)
@DoctarPeppar
Ah, no wonder I cant see it from my Ipad. Kidding.
@DoctarPeppar hahaha I know its [Micromedia] flash. :P I meant the new feature of youtube (To modify your channel into this way).
@Sp4mer
YouTube has always allowed commercial customers to have custom page layouts. This isn't the first for Nokia or YouTube.
@christexaport Thanks for the clarification. I don't use youtube too much ,so I didn't know about it. [+1] & Thanks again. :)
it's a really cool way to advertise their new camera phone
the keepie uppie is insane.... I would have though it unpossible!
but I guess the man is actually super skilled.
the first clip makes it look like they shot the event with the camera phone..... sort of how the DSLR's are getting used to shoot TV shows.
but they used pro cameras to shoot this not the N8.... right?
cool plan..... neat phone. I had Nokia phones back in the day.
Sweet, but they should have actually shown more of the phone besides foosball tricks...hey whatever gets ppls attention tho...if it works, great, if not, then fail.
So those tricks are real. That's really impressive.
(from a YouTube comment RE: the rail shot)
It starts at Red's goals... then when it hits the rail... it's back and Blue's rolling towards Red's again? :S Watch it, Red is defending both times.
screw the phone how can they do this moves?
@xdeiri

@Thijs
Thijs, je ziet toch wel dat dit nep is?
definitely worth the wait.
@Kabs lol.. it's one painful wait >.< had my 2.5 year old N82's LCD screen cracked a few days ago cause it was in my hand while i fell.. My plan is gona be over in 2 weeks time and i want my N8 now lol XD
Is there anything Foosball can't do? :)
Well that was dumb. How about showing the phone?...
i wonder if there is anyone actual close to being that skilled.
@Tristan88888888 You mean besides the people in the video? The tricks were real.
@WilliamNighthawk Damn it comment system.... Let's try this again.
Besides the people, because while the tricks in the video are CGI, the person in the video is a legend and can actually preform those tricks. The tricks are real.
@WilliamNighthawk Nevermind, I'm going crazy, just ignore me. The tricks were preformed live, so I was right the first time.
These people really seem to like foosball. I wonder what would happen when you smash their foosball table when they are playing.
This is how Nokia connects with people. Foosball is popular in many places, and the guy doing the trick shots is popular. Showing this with the phone sprinkled in is cool in many ways.
