Think it's only Apple faithful who are adding an
iPad to their gadget cache? According to Chitika Research, that's not true. The online advertising firm keeps a close eye on which platforms are downloading its ads the most, and it says that Mac computers accounted for 10.3 percent of wasted bandwidth in April. That's up from 7.4 percent in the January - March timeframe (you know, the pre-iPad era), and Chitika Research Director Daniel Ruby says "90% of that increase was due to the iPad halo effect." Meanwhile, NPD analyst Stephen Baker believes that the boost is instead thanks to the new
MacBook Pro models that were released at the same time, and Technology Business Research analyst Ezra Gottheil says "early data on the iPad indicated that most buyers were already in the Apple club." Who is right? Survey says... your guess is as good as ours, and any of theirs, apparently.
@TPQ
It's not a competition, kid. Most people probably own both. You know, cos we have jobs and stuff and money to spend.
@suicidebob
span a 9 inch gap
@TPQ
you are missing the point
one is a phone and the other is a tablet
the ipad has an OS that is easy to use and works really well that well... anyone can pick up and use.
What people need to realize is that a netbook is with a full blown OS and a crappy CPU is not the best way to go portable. A custom OS for mainly browsing(with flash please) music/videos/some gaming is the best for that target market. Apple has done just that.
@TPQ Allow me to sit in my recliner on Sunday morning with a cup of coffee and browse news sites and comics...comfortably. That is, not squiniting and scrolling.
@tehslax
lets a) agree to disagree on that
and
b) agree not to feed the troll anymore
:)

What are you complaining about exactly? Netbooks or iPads?
'cause iPads take the prize for "going portable with a crappy CPU".
The platform is just restricted so much that it's hard to notice. The lack of Flash being an obvious benefit here. The browser is so limited that you need special apps for stuff like this very website.
It's easy to make the machine seem snappy when you limit it in some ways to what you could do 10 years ago. That matches up with the 10 year old hardware spec.
The iPad is very much an Apple netbook. They were just careful to make it less obvious. There's a real OS underneath, it's just hidden and limited.
@jedi
You're missing the point. Netbooks run a desktop OS on crappy CPU, so they tend to be sluggish. iPhone OS, while a mobile varient of OSX, is still built to run on low CPU. That's what makes it a true mobile device. The hardware specs become irrelevant here; the custom built mobile OS is what makes the iPad a great device, especially as iPhone OS 3.2 was built specifically to run on an A4 processor. And when it comes to Flash... after using Froyo for a week, Flash belongs nowhere on a mobile device. Way to much of a headache.
@jedi
Strangely enough though Flash needed far less CPU and ram, and no hardware acceleration 10 years ago to do exactly the same thing it does today.
Based on your assessment the iPad is perfectly powered, but what happened to Flash?
The only things that are faster today than 10 years ago are video editing, rendering, transcoding and other like tasks. None of which anyone should expect a netbook or an ipad to be doing. Anything net has only sped up because of faster internet connections.
The rest was waiting for our fat fingers 10 years ago and is still wAiting for them now.
10 years ago was p3450 and 200mmx. Both totally acceptable in a general computing experience, even today.
@hated one Sort of like how in just weeks the Pet Rock took over and set the future standards for the novelty rock market. Of course this doesn't really mean it's useful for anything.
Wait i take that back

You're a tard and im not going to dignify that with a response.
Who cares... just look at Apple's marketcap grow and grow
Feuding analysts.
There's two cool words that do NOT look cool together
Feuding Clans of Ninja = cool
Analysts at CERN = cool
But together.... No
@AstroSeven
wow... how did you get... nvm
I have only owed macs. My uncle used to design them back in the non heydays.
I've turned many in my extended family towards macs.
However, my wifes brother finally tried the ipad because of the price and has decided, after having to replace his dell laptops normally every six months, to get macs for the entire family. Because of the dells, because of my experience and because he finally used a 'mac' in the ipad.
I'm not sure if I buy that the halo effect came on this quick for the rest of the world, though. But I won't doubt there will be.
@bdj1
owned ? or do you really mean owed ?
@bdj1 So...you're all happy little sheeple. We get it.
Sounds like those analysts need an analrapist to intervene.
+1 to whoever gets the reference.
Simply answer this question: what was the increase in sales rate at the last refresh? If it's comparable then it's nothing to do with the iPad and everything to do with people wanting a new Mac.
I can see that number growing a lot larger, as mac users dont have/use Adblock plus!
NewsFlash: FEUDING ANALYSTS BOOSTING MAC SALES!
why are they even debating this? Th macs just got a refresh recently. That, of all reasons, should have accounted for the climb.
What exactly does the iPad have anything to do with this? It's like analysts are tripping over themselves to try and justify the device.
Next thing they are going to start reporting that Harry Potter's magic gets a boost due to the halo effect from the ipad.
Part of it might have to do with new high school grads?
I know quite a few people got MacBooks as grad gifts recently.
Good decision Engadget in going with a Richard Dawson-era "Family Feud"
I was sitting with my wife going over some details on her PowerBook Titanium laptop and started to try to flick through the web page on display with finger touch gestures. Oops. I've been iPadicated.
"Ezra Gottheil says "early data on the iPad indicated that most buyers were already in the Apple club." "
Well, Exra, you're clueless. The Eruopean sales, where they sold tons last week did a local TV channel did an exit poll and only 2% of those who bought an iPad were mac faithful!! So this is at least half of iPad buyers are non mac owners.
