Newsight 3D photo frame promises to let you 'see around' images without glasses
A 3D digital photo frame may seem a bit excessive for even the most all-compassing technology bandwagon, but the folks from Newsight have managed to put a somewhat unique spin on the idea with this frame recently on display at SID 2010. Like some of the company's other displays, this 3D LCD is auto-stereoscopic -- meaning you don't need any pesky glasses -- but it also takes things one step further by supporting what's known as "motion parallax," which effectively means you can "see around" an image. As you might expect, that involves a bit of trickery, but Newsight says its image processing software can take any traditional 3D (or even 2D) image and create five separate images out of it that let you see the same image from different angles. Unfortunately, that image processing must first be done on a PC with the current model, but Newsight promises that the next model will have built-in processing, and it's already talking about a third version that will let two frames send images to each other.

THE GOAT IS COMING OUT OF THE SCREEN!
@Nitesh Just what we need.....a 3D image of the animals ass!
@Khris
Goat-see?
@bigcow05
WIN.
This is a mountain sheep isn't it? Sure looks like some animal porn.
Do they have 3D (still) camera's yet?
@d3sc3nd3ncy Yes, ive seen a few at BestBuy or RadioShack
Sounds mighty fine, but methinks the price will be a bit high.
Wow!!!
Just what I wanted, a 3D photo frame of me and my fat family... As if it is not enough to actually see them... in real 3D!
@Mr w00t might have trouble seeing around them then...
What are you trying to tell me -- that I can dodge bullets?
"See around?" I'll bet you'll just see the cables instead. LOL.
I knew something like this would happen - when you look at a picture and move it around - the picture moves, the same thing is involved here!
Wow. Theyre really pushing for 3D everything...
"Newsight" has that nice Orwellian ring to it...
Goatse 3D
How many digicams out there are 3D and can take advantage of this photoframe? I doubt the 2D -> 3D conversion would look good; can't make detail where there was none before.
LMAO @ Mr Woot
I think seeing a pic in 3D would be a great concept as long as it's a great photo.
A pic with flaws (pimples, runny nose, dry lips) might be a problem.
verseo
Finally, I can pan around my 2d images taken on my camera phone and solve all sorts of crimes! The movies were correct, after all!
As much I'm fed up with 3d this sounds like the technology nintendo is using for it's 3DS. But yeah really this is going to be very expensive and what purpose does this serve. I'll keep my current digital photo frames thank you very much.
I would like to see the frame in action.. if anything the base would make a good iPad stand!
You don't need a 3d camera for 3d photos. Either get two cameras and take pics simultaneously side by side, or take one photo, move a few inches, and take the other.
A few seconds in photoshop later you'll have 3d photos.
I think it's funny how lots of people think 3D is stupid. I think it's awesome, and only until it works without glasses will it ever be picked up mainstream. Didn't people think camera phone's were stupid when they first came out? What about home computers? ...give it time to evolve, and you'll probably have a hard time figuring out how you ever lived without it :)
Honestly this could be one of the better 3D uses. A bit like those windows some university? did with screens that followed your location and it could look like your room was in space facing earth.
I remember when they were selling 3D disposable cameras. The photos had that pleated surface to make viewing possible. The camera had 3 lenses.
Put the goat back in the screen.
I said, put the goat back in the screen.
Ben Affleck wants his Paycheck....
Note: one simultaneous viewer.
As long as I live alone (which I must if I'm going to buy one of these for MY OWN AMUSEMENT in between ranting blog posts on my unibody MacBook).
Good thing I'm married.
