Steve Jobs to be interviewed at the D conference... and we'll be there live
Hey guys, just in case you didn't know, there's a crazy party going on this week out on the West Coast... a little something called D: All Things Digital. D (or D8 this time around) is a pretty wild schmoozefest, where the cream of the crop hobnob and trade secrets -- but it's also a place where major news sometimes happens. One of the folks speaking at the event (besides Steve Ballmer, Mark Zuckerberg, and a slew of other major players) is a gentleman who goes by the name of Steve Jobs (he works at Apple). We're thinking he might have something fairly interesting to say, and if you didn't end up with a seat at the conference, that's okay -- we'll be there to bring you the news as it happens.
Things kick off around 6PM PT tomorrow (that's June 1st), so check out our liveblog landing page right here for the main event.
Note: We will -- of course -- be doing live coverage of other big names at the event, including Steve Ballmer (you can see our encounter with him last year over here). Stay tuned for announcements!

@Joshua Topolsky
Well, balmer should have top billing, jobs is just a socialist toymaker.
@JK1111
Agreed. If these guys don't like Engadget then they shouldn't post. Every time they do, the site gets more ad revenue. It's sad that a group of people exists that hates a company for no real reason. Why not enjoy the inventions of all companies? Though, I must say, I will be dusting off my old "Apple Fanboy" card if the Apple TV rumor comes to fruition.
I love engadget! And I love Apple! As well as Microsoft!
@Joshua Topolsky Lol bring something constructive and intelligent to the conversation? You'd probably lose like 50% of your comments then. :)
With that being said. I think its pretty important news. Steve Jobs doesn't give out many interviews. I will be paying attention to it.
I think that we all eventually move from idealistic perspectives of "ohh how can people be so fanboyish" etc to realistic perspectives and accept the fact that there will always be people who follow brands for the sake of just following brands. We do this in sports, politics, horse racing - it's almost a unique human condition that we feel almost a gravitational pull to taunt or defend those things that we align ourselves to or mis-align ourselves to.
This is a GOOD thing for humanity, believe it or not. Fanboys have their place. We've evolved from a species that fights physically with each other to fighting with our minds. The result is the same. Ideas are thrown out there and are then subjugated to the most extraordinary attacks from the logical to the whimsical. The end result is the same as with other species. The strong ideas survive, the weak gets destroyed. Apple is doing very controversial things and we wouldn't be the human race if we didn't push back against anything and everything (not just apple, of course) which almost ensures that the ideas we build upon have been through their fair share of pain to earn their place.
The resulting battle of technologies will better us all eventually, creating a better, more advanced human race. Here's to arguing - ALL forms of arguing. Just live with it - it makes us stronger.
@buoy
I'm just saying that I, personally, love companies that make good products. This is why I like Apple and I like Google (Microsoft - not so much.) But there is no need for hatred for any other sides. Just like it should be in sports or politics. Here's to debate, conversation, creation, and innovation; not to hatred and closed minds.
@Johnny Rockets
Simple facts:
1- Nobody cares about Ballmer
2- Even you... You wouldn't come here and comment if it wasn't Steve Jobs on the spot.
@Joshua Topolsky Please don't care about fanatics, keep up the good work. Every 13+ years old people on the planet, knows that Steve Jobs is big news, and others are not.
@wraith404
The only reason to watch Ballmer is to see what sort of stupid things he will say this time. Jobs will draw much, much more of a crowd & much more comments.
Why wasn't it announced here when Steve Ballmer was named as a speaker?
@bighap
Probably because Steve Ballmer isn't a Magician.
@grumbles
At least he owns more than 1 set of clothing.
Because it obvious, Steve Jobs is more interesting and controversial. Stop asking questions you already know the answer to.
@bighap Seriously?.... did you miss the part where Jobs is single handedly given the most credit for the turn around of Apple from near bankruptcy to the now be a bigger company (in terms of market capitalization... that means that is what investors believe... with their pocket) than Microsoft. He has been named the CEO of the decade. What has Ballmer done that you are so proud of?
@JojoMojo
He (Steve Ballmer) destroyed Microsoft, look at that dual screen tablet microsoft dropped, what the he'll is the kin?motoblurs home page?
Why is Internet explorer one of the most useless things on my computer?
@bighap
Nike Dri Fit?
schoozefest or schmoozefest? last time i went to a party with a few retifisms, things didn't turn out so well.
@Joshua Topolsky
lololol cute response, despite the lack of an answer.
Can't wait to miss it!
You would think a guy that rich would spring for some hair plugs.
@DoctarPeppar
Are you referring to Jobs or Uncle Fester?
@TheMadHatter
Jobs...ballmer has been bald since his college days, I think he's just used to it.
Just so he can tell us how the giant ipod touch is "phenomenal" over and over , yeah I will pass.
@Hydra
Sort of like you passed on commenting on it? Right...
Woohoo! excited for steve jobs. Plus Peter Chou from HTC according to here:
http://briefmobile.com/steve-jobs-to-speak-at-d8-conference
9PM is so late for something like this on the east coast...
Steve Jobs gets higher billing over Ballmer anywhere in the world right now. The fact that Apple haters have now stooped to trolling tech sites.... how sad. How pathetic.
i personally dont give a shit, but i do hope is health is doing better.
@IAMKITTY
I don't
@beachballofdeath
Dude...
@beachballofdeath
Dude, you created an account, a few minutes ago, just to troll. Please, bring new ideas to the table; we're hungry for them; or go crash a YouTube board.
Bring an iPad!!!!
Oooh, is Adobe going to be there too? Lemme grab my popcorn...better than pay-per-view!!!!
I swear you better interview the crap outta him about his hypcrosy towards openness/Flash and all thye other bull until his black turtle-neck sweater explodes/bursts into flames!
Gadgets aside, anyone else here sick of this guy's face already? It's everywhere.
@seven5suited
they need to start using a different picture or something.
every time i see a picture of him, he is in the same exact clothes, i mean come on, are you telling me that the only pictures ever taken of steve jobs were taken the day he wore that turtleneck?!
something just isn't right about that...
Its not like he is going to release any information about anything. The WWDC is like a week away. But I will still be looking forward to hearing on what he has to say.
Can anyone explain to me what Engadget ALT is? I have been following Engadget Mobile for sometime now, but what is this new site?
So... The CEO of Microsoft, after last week's shakeup might have something interesting to say about their new direction...Doesn't get the headline.
HTC's CEO, who could clarify their roadmap for the rest of the year...Doesn't share the headline.
Heck, even engadget's parent company, AOL has a CEO speaking at all things D, and gets no mention.
But then again, a Steve Jobs headline will get pageviews. Honestly, I predict more html5 evangelism, death to flash, and pimping his own products.
@Damaga None of those guys have two livers.
The glorification of Jobs is a bit tired.
@Tohe
I know, like what that F has this guy done ....?
Oh yea... right... that... and that... and.. oh yeah..
@Tohe
agreed! Jobs sucks!
D8? I'll wait 12 years and then attend the conference. D&D jokes abound.
look forward to hearing the words of mr. jobs. there are a few things i appreciate about apple, yet wish they would change (but understand). they take the bumpy road. they don't offer share-holder dividends, but they hoard that cash for strategic purchases. people hate them for it, yet their stock continues to rise. who knows what he might say, but he keeps his finger on the pulse. i predict some massive cloud services in apple's future (if not near future), and more forward-thinking moves. how does he keep the company bucking the trend, making money, and silencing the doubters. having massive loads of cash-in-hand doesn't hurt, and the mind-share of the masses. the juggernaut that is apple is scaring even the big players (media titans) because they are the only 'real' vehicle for delivery of their content, and they fear 'monopoly'. so is it their fault that they are delivering success for themselves, and for those who partner with them? it's ironic how they have become the whipping boy of the moment. let us see what steve says, and the reactions he garners. just keep doing what you do, focus on your vision, and keep tech in the spotlight.
good i will post adobe posters every where
...ask him what type of blood he is feeding on theses days?
I think this might be the day Jobs tells the world he is a robot.
