LG kicks off T-Mobile relationship with Sentio, dLite, and GS170
Don't look for any crazy Android hardware here, but these three dumbphones are more notable than you might think: they mark the first time LG has hooked up with T-Mobile USA, believe it or not. The Sentio (pictured left) is the most interesting of the trio, featuring a 3-inch touchscreen, 3 megapixel cam with video capture, and support for visual voicemail. The dLite flip (middle) offers a nifty concealed LED array upfront -- a feature you see occasionally on Japanese and domestic Korean handsets, but rarely on American models -- along with a 2.8-inch display and a pair of color choices ("bubblegum" and "electric blue"). Both the Sentio and dLite also feature T-Mobile's Social Buzz app for aggregating social network status updates, a helpful feature that's quickly becoming the norm in this class of device. Finally, you've got the GS170 flip -- a phone so basic that LG apparently didn't deem it worthy of a proper name -- offering a VGA cam, Bluetooth 2.1, and "large visible keys." All three phones will be available this Summer for yet-to-be-disclosed prices. Follow the break for LG's press release.
LG Sentio, LG dLite and LG GS170 Bring Style, Features and Fun to T-Mobile Customers
SAN DIEGO and BELLEVUE, Wash., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. (LG Mobile Phones) and T-Mobile USA, Inc. today announced the upcoming availability of three new phones from LG for T-Mobile customers, a first-time collaboration between the two companies. The LG Sentio™, LG dLite™ and LG GS170, which are anticipated to be available this summer, provide a variety of features, form factors and colors that will appeal to different members of the family.
"LG and T-Mobile have come together to offer customers a trio of unique handsets to outfit every generation," said Ehtisham Rabbani, vice president, Marketing and Innovation, LG Mobile Phones. "LG is redefining the mobile phone market by setting a new standard in feature rich phones."
"We're expanding our lineup of compelling handset choices for our customers with the addition of these LG phones," said Paul Cole, vice president, Devices and Accessories, T-Mobile USA. "Coupled with T-Mobile's award-winning customer service and high-speed network, these fashionable new phones offer winning solutions for families."
The LG Sentio and LG dLite come equipped with T-Mobile® Social Buzz, an application that provides easy access to your favorite social networking sites. Once installed, the application will keep you in the know with pop-up notifications to the phone's home screen and provides the option to visit each social networking interface separately or visit the aggregated screen that includes messages from all communities.
The LG Sentio offers a 3-inch touch screen with a virtual QWERTY keyboard making it easy to keep in touch with friends and family via Social Buzz, personal e-mail and picture messaging. With a full scroll touch screen and the ability to customize the home screen with widgets, the phone keeps your favorite features upfront. The phone also comes with 3G connectivity for fast Web browsing over T-Mobile web2go(SM), GPS with location-based services, a 3-megapixel camera with video playback, an MP3 player and Visual Voicemail support.
The LG dLite makes hearing from friends and family always enjoyable with a hidden LED matrix on the outside of the phone that displays icons for alerts, caller ID, time and date, as well as uniquely customizable edge-lit LED light colors and patterns that can change on a whim. In addition, the dLite features Social Buzz, 3G connectivity, personal e-mail, and Visual Voicemail support. This flip phone offers a large 2.8-inch main display and comes in two vibrant color finishes, bubblegum and electric blue.
Rounding out the LG trio, the LG GS170 offers an intuitive user interface, one-touch speakerphone and large visible keys, packaged in a pocket-size clamshell design. The GS170 offers a high-resolution color display along with a VGA camera, MP3 ringtone capability, Bluetooth® 2.1, and text/picture messaging and e-mail support.
Availability
The LG Sentio, dLite and GS170 are expected to be available this summer in select T-Mobile retail stores and online at http://www.t-mobile.com.

How can a phone running Android be a dumbphone?
@SlimSpaceman those phones arent running Android didnt you even read the first part??? "DON'T LOOK for any crazy Android hardware here, but these three dumbphones are more notable than you might think"
@FuturismRave *sigh* It says "crazy Android hardware"... I thought they were referring to hardware, so I thought the phones would be classified as dumbphones due the slow processor speed or something... nvm
@SlimSpaceman your a dumb phone.
@prfrma Lord knows I try... Need to start eating those dragon snaps cereals with ram sauce for breakfast!
@prfrma @SlimSpaceman your a dumb phone.
You're a dumb phone. *fixed*
The middle phone has been in Korea for almost 2 years now.. The LG Lollipop... now there's Lollipop 2 here... c'mon T-mo...
@akbc I'm surprised LG didn't have Wonder Girls do a deLite song since every other country that has the Lollipop has their own song for it.
I'm actually looking for a GSM based (with T-Mobile currently) dumb flip-phone to replace my nearly 3-year old Nokia 6133 (that actually sells on eBay for $100+ used in near mint conditions). The Nokia served me well, and I hope that the GS170 will be something that I can replace it with that is cheap, but reliable.
No need for a smartphone, until all 4 carriers offer non-subsidized data/voice plans for people who either purchase their own phones or complete their 2-year agreement. Until then, I'll suck it up and enjoy the phone for what it was intended to do.
@PiCASSO I'm right there with you. I'm selling my iPhone and going back to using my Razr2 to place and receive calls and pocketing the $30 a month. I don't need my phone to be my GPS and my music player and my video player and my portable gaming device and to text and IM.
Now get the hell off my lawn!
@PiCASSO As a T-mobile customer you should know they already offer a plan like that. The $80 unlimited talk text and web with no contract.
@PiCASSO Great post. I've got a little LG VX5500 w/ Verizon that works just fine. I'd like a new-fangled smartphone, but I'm not paying the ridiculous data prices. I'm afraid it's a dumbphone for me for the time being.
@TehAndroid
Yes, I understand that T-Mobile has an unsubsidized plan available, with unlimited voice, text, and data for actually $75/month + your standard applicable taxes that will bump your monthly costs to nearly $90. Still expensive compared to the minor carriers (that vary their service depending on the city that you live in), and the other 3-major carriers are taking too long to do much, especially AT&T and Verizon.
Personally, I wished that as a start all 4-carriers had similar plans as T-Mobile, and then continue to be more competitive to drive new customers in.
Unfortunately, unlike Europe, this will continue to be that kind of market where you have 2 GSM and 2 CDMA carriers to choose from, and no (or very little) possibility of moving around with your existing 2-3 year old phone.
It's about time IMO. Samsung is just not cutting it for me anymore. Their reception is so poor.
Is it 61:50 already?? I'm late for work.
@birdman1852 Tilt your head to the right, not left. :)
I really wish T-Mobile would stop coming out with these dumbphones and deliver some real phones to their customers. I've been on T-mobile for about 5 years now and I'm seriously thinking of switching unless they drop something spectacular this summer.
Verizon has the Droid Incredible
Sprint is getting the Evo 4G
AT&T has the iPhone 4G coming
T-Mobile has... MyTouch 3G Slide..
@KangXi Technically T-Mobile has the Nexus One, but then it is not like the other which re offered at retail stores and is readily available...
Still, T-Mobile has to step their game up. I opted to get the CLIQ a few months ago and now I am locked with it unless I buy something else, and right now there is nothing I want to buy that T-Mobile is currently offering.
@shizbgby I qualify for an update with T-Mobile right now but I do not qualify when I go to purchase the Nexus One through Google. Also, if I upgrade through T-Mobile, the phone can be split into payments and I can get it with a small down payment. This does not apply with Google.
T-Mobile does not have the Nexus One, Google offers it with T-Mobile service.
Finally. Some love for the non smart phone side of the house. Way to go T-Mobile. Good lookin' out.
The dLite flip looks an awful lot like the overseas LG Lollipop GD580 to me,

Garbagio.
LG is inferior to Samsung and HTC in build-quality though. Maybe T-Mo was smart to avoid them?
what is this meaning?...........that's sucks.........I need superphone now. bring damn futurist phone now I ain't taste this crap phone. and I think that tmobile didn't learn well and didn't listen what customer people want new thing and It's time to change new thing. no more old crap phone. shame on you tmobile. I dont give crap about kids or adult people and we'll want new super phone android 2.2 and bring 4G now. you think that I buy this crap phone? I don't think so. I ain't buy this crap phone. Im waiting see how is super phone is rating and add 4G than 3G well. you know why? because we do test against to you any phone, wake up tmobile! so that samsung screw up! samsung seems will lost to customer people phone. all samsung's fault.
Ehhh,,, I think I'll stay with samsung,,, lg really isn't that great to me
