Nintendo trims DSi and DSi LL prices in Japan, adds new color options for bigger console (updated)
Good news for Nippon-based handheld lovers: from June 19, Nintendo will be selling the DSi at a new reduced price of ¥15,000 ($165), accompanied by a more affordable DSi LL, which lands at ¥18,000 ($198). That will make the jumbo portable console cheaper than the regular-sized one costs today, while the whole effort seems clearly aimed at maintaining the market for Nintendo's classical wares after it blows all our minds with its 3DS debut at E3 in a couple of weeks. We look forward to it, we just wish this price cut would go global -- Europeans need love too, you know.
Update: We've also just learnt Nintendo is bringing out a trifecta of new color options for the Japanese LL: blue, yellow and green jumbo DSis will be available on June 19, right alongside the price trim. Come past the break to see the other two hues.

Proud owner of a DS phat :)
@Wokis
Ditto, still got the original fugly DS here. One version of a console is fine by me.
@Wokis me too. much better size that fits perfectly in my hands, and also better build quality.
@Wokis Had mine since day one especially since it came to the U.S. first.
Got a brand new DSi off craigslist for $130 (w/ no tax). I don't know why anyone would purchase anything without checking Craigslist or amazon first. Retail is overrated.
@New Reformation
I think knowing you're dealing with a reputable seller is a pretty big one, no?
Sure, you can go on craigslist if your only aim is to pay the lowest price possible. Some people pay for service and peace of mind. Others gotta dig about in the trash
Am I the Only one to notice the LL instead of XL
@frankiezjr
You were. Congratulations!
What is the DSi LL? isn't it the DSi XL?
@Atomic Zombie Correct. The LL is what the XL is known as in Japan.
so the ¥18k model is "more affordable" than the ¥15k model
that's interesting
@mrqs
What's interestingly if your inability to decipher a sentence that a 3 year old would have no problem with
@suicidebob
i find it ironic to get reading comprehension advice from someone that writes this:
"What's interestingly if your inability to..."
anyway, perhaps i'm not as good in english as i thought i was, but as far as i can tell this sentence clearly states what i said it does
"Nintendo will be selling the DSi at a new reduced price of ¥15,000 ($165), accompanied by a more affordable DSi LL, which lands at ¥18,000 ($198)."
@mrqs
The DSi LL is more affordable than it used to be.
Really. Were you going to sit there all day and not see that?
@suicidebob
you're missing the point
of course the sentence makes sense in the way it was intended, but it's just as easily interpreted completely differently - a better sentence wouldn't be
i realize that this isn't reuters, but these people are still professional journalists, whose job should include taking this stuff in to account (granted my original intent was to poke fun at it, not anything as serious as you're making this - i guess some people just don't like jesting)
@mrqs I love how you criticize the authors grammar, but fail to use a capital letter in your whole comment, along with gems such as "but it's just as easily interpreted completely differently - a better sentence wouldn't be". Hilarious.
@fragmit
i'm not a publishing professional journalist
@fragmit
btw, what's wrong in that sentence you quoted from me?
i'm not a native english speaker, so while i recognize it's a bit of a mess, i don't see anything grammatically wrong with it
I like my XL, though I am a big screen junky
My pocket however does not like it :(
"learnt"
King's English or not, that will never sound correct.
Dear Nintendo,
Please drop the prices of the DSi's and release the purtyful new colours of the XL\LL worldwide ASAP. I have a real hankering for that green.
Much love,
Douglas.
I guess they're trying to get as many DSi sales in as possible before the announcement of the 3DS in 2 weeks.
I just can't see jumping on one of these with the 3DS right around the corner.
@sharkync
Agreed.
