Project Natal retail unit revealed at D8?
Hey -- you know Microsoft's Project Natal? Well we've just gotten an up close look at what appears to be the retail version (though it's clearly marked a developer unit). We couldn't storm the stage while Walt and Kara (and her son!) were showing it off, but no one seemed to mind that we took a load of these shots for your perusal. Check out gallery below for more pics!

OH YEAH BABY.
@wakeup
That's what she said
@wakeup
I'm SOOO glad they finally are showing a White version :) I was afraid that my white xbox was going to look out of place next to my black tv, black blu-ray player, black tv center AND black natal!
@Joe Cool
don't worry Joe Cool, its already out of place
@Zylam
WOOSH!
I hope this isn't the only color released. I'd hate to have to ruin my warranty just so it can match...
@wakeup
ANY VIDEO GUYS?? Would love to see the demonstration.
@LiveGamer We Demand Video Demo GUY NOW!?
@wakeup yah not a chance I'd buy this if it only comes in white.
@Joe Cool
A white xbox with the black natal unit would be ok, but this white unit with a black xbox is just not visually appealing.
@Joe Cool Well, there always are sprays :]
@pankomputerek
There's also the Wii Sensor Bar.
Wouldn't it be hilarious if Natal were just a Wii Sensor Bar covered in plastic? heh... ideas...
:\.
It doesn't seem all too impressive. I just don't think people will fall for it.
@jmiotto
Funny, didn't eveyone say that about the Wii before it came out?
Ah well... only one way to find out. that PS3 crap looks pretty awful too though...
@Hate Everything I guess so. I mean, it's just an Xbox 360 with a web camera on top, right?
Four years later...
How was I so STUPID about this Project Natal! It is the best new toy of the decade!
@jmiotto It fits with the look of the 360. I don't think there'll be an integrated version any time soon (ever) so at least it doesn't look horrible...
@Hate Everything The wii sales have slowed down alot everyone is finding out that motion controls is just a gimmick
@Console fanboy
lol after how many years and how much market saturation? its still the top selling console and still has the highest install base. i think motion controls are just ok, but your statement couldnt be more wrong
Having integrated would be horrible because then it wouldn't work for people like me who have their xboxes in a cabnent to the side of the tv.
@Console fanboy Wii sales have slowed down? Xbox and PS3 must have as well, because the Wii outsold both of the other consoles by a nice margin in 2009. Wii still is the top selling console.
@Console fanboy
umm... I actually think it's because just about every american has one in their house that's going to get one
@Console fanboy does it matter that wii sales have slowed down when they are still outselling 360 and ps3??? hahah with that logic, u can say, people have always realized that ps3s are just overprices bluray players cuz it is 3rd in sales. u eventually run out of people to sell ur console to.
I'd like to see a real demo that doesn't involve a red ball
@plbelanger
Oh, didn't you hear? All Natal games were developed by J. J. Abrams. Red balls for everyone!
I'm going to hold out for move. I like buttons!
@coreysnyder04 I see what you mean for a game interface, but I'm more interested in its use as an interface interface....
Menu controls, Netflix swiping, movie playing etc.
Games? I have a Wii for that idiocy.
Roll on E3! I really can't wait to see this thing in action.
@CarliT
The base clearly has a trackball rotation so that it's not fixed horizontally or vertically. The "No Manual Tilt" sticker could also mean that we are able to tilt the device automatically from the software. Motion tracking camera that follows our bodies around the room anyone?
@CarliT yeah, i remember reading a little while ago that it will have motors to tilt it. if i remember correctly, even for the final retail unit you're not supposed to manually tilt it, though i may be wrong about that.
the following around the room idea is cool, but i have my doubts. with the huge width of that thing i doubt the sideways rotation angle will be very large.
I'm not too sure about motion control really... we're too lazy to move around... that's why we play games... unless you are 8 in which case you get a Wii
@hammydbest
We dream of holodecks but when they're actually here people don't want to get up.
@Raffi256 The people don't want holodecks.
They want orgasmoglasses!

"No Manual Tilt" seems like a stupid name for it :\
*ducks*
Reminds me of a Wii Remote.
looks like a table lamp.....it might work good but ...........the design is not good , specially the design of the base
@XRX
I LOVE LAMP!!!
I hope the base on the final product is not that big or as ugly.
@Kamal
The bigger it is,the more tech that's inside. That's what I always say. :D
Gimme!!!
$150.
it better be available in black... but WOOHOO!
Soooooo ugly. You can say whatever you want about the Move remote (and I'll most likely agree) but this thing is an eye sore
@hxczuner that big gay looking glowing ball is not an eye sore? ha!
@KBatFLORIDA yes, but they are BOTH eyesores. It's just that Project Natal makes your eyes so sore that they'll need glasses afterwards.
@hxczuner
I think the diddle sticks with clown nose is less appealing.
Having a black version of Natal would be nice for those with the Elites.
@KBatFLORIDA The big gay glowing ball isn't sitting on top of my tv cabinet; and it's design is for utility. They could have made Natal look like, literally, anything else.
@jmiotto
3D glasses** LOL, so you'll be punching balls in 3D xDD
@hxczuner If this comes in black...and I do think it will...I don't see how it would look out of place at all
@hxczuner oh PLEASE. the move is way uglier than natal. in fact i dont think natal looks that bad at all
Glad to see it showing up and will be glad to be at the press event in two weeks. Hopefully I'll get a hands on with it. I hope it does come in black also I have a green xbox so white will stand out a bit
Another box and set of wires to my already cluttered room.......no thanks, I will wait for a fully integrated version. Innovation shld make it easy not add a layer of devices and cables
