Sprint EVO 4G celebrates its 'first' commercial
"First is the beginning" -- tautologies notwithstanding, so debuts Sprint's inaugural EVO 4G commercial, now online and airing over broadcast television. Although evoking the same parallel syntax narrative style akin to the "Droid does" campaign -- as well as rocket-propelled imagery -- we gotta say, this one's much more comforting. Like the commercial says, first isn't later, first is... right after the break.

first?
@BrianH
ok, seriously thought, i had to and you know it.
@BrianH am drunk but *thought*?
Hahaha well played! i think that this is the only time in the history of engadget where that sole word used as the first comment is acceptable. I uprank you, sir.
@One Love
yea... just had a mid term (yes, at 9pm), head hurts.
@Fragmented haha sucks for your nuts. i live 6 miles away from sprint headquarters (which as Wimax)
@BrianH
just gtfo please, do you think you'll win a cookie or something? I just don't get some people..... Anyway I think sprint needs to do more to make up for those scary palm commercials but this is a great start.
@Fragmented
lol?
@deliteguy Sounds like YOU didnt get the joke.
@BrianH
I love this phone. I want this phone. I will get this phone.
@Fragmented : no one cares about his life, but you still checked his comment history and managed to get the math wrong? :)
@Fragmented
Love you too =)
@ddddd seriously? they aught to at least advertise that. I mean that's a great feature.
@Fragmented LOL, you did, loser.
@BrianH i care about your life BrianH and thought the first? was classic, probably the only time you could get away with it... but am i the only one that thought that commercial was going in a different direction where the iPhone was the first of this new breed of smartphone that led to the amazingness that is the first superphone HTC EVO?
@Fragmented, 44 million people represent 0.0001% of the population? Where did you learn math?
@SteveyAyo What will I do "first" with my EVO? Get a second charger of course! This puppy is gonna suck the juice like a motha! Just read the reviews. They're actually, officially, suggesting you turn OFF the 4g when not using it. I mean, honestly. This is the exact reason the iPhone started on 2g. The battery tech just wasn't there to support what the iPhone needed. Yes, 3G obviously existed on phones prior to the first iPhone, but they weren't of the same class as the iphone. This is just another overly feature-rich phone for the simple sake of saying they're FIRST.
@Fragmented which is still 0.0001% more than any other carrier.
@TomSawyer
1. "Our EVO arrived with the battery already installed and charged to about 50 percent, but it was a review unit -- your experience may vary."
2. "We know what you're thinking, though: what about battery life? Amazingly, we got some three hours and 13 minutes of run time while using the EVO continuously as a 4G hotspot -- and when we say "continuously," we mean we were streaming high-quality audio the entire time. What's more, the phone wasn't even fresh off the charger when we started; it had been on and in heavy use for two hours and four minutes prior. Bottom line, this thing seems to be a champion on a 1500mAh battery; we can't even begin to fathom what a massive aftermarket pack would do to it."
Thats almost 5 and a half hours on half of a charge... Dude the battery life is one of the best features for a power user, everyone should stop talking about the battery life being bad because it is AMAZING!!! EVO FTW
@TomSawyer You shouldn't always be on 4G anyways. Why would you always be on 4G when you could be using wifi? Also all the reviews that reported bad battery life didn't use the task manager : \ Dumbasses.
@Fragmented 4G currently covers 40 million customers and will cover over 120 mil by the end of 2010, in cities like NYC, LA, Miami, and San Fran. Here is a complete list:

Now quit hating!
Well, they still didn't mention what you can DO with the fun that's so different. Hopefully they have more commercials this week. Sprint needs to show that video-call stuff because Apple sure will next Monday and the media will be all over it.
@aubreyq "Do with the PHONE, not 'fun.'" FAIL
@BrianH I'm gonna be the FIRST in line at BestBuy this Friday to get mine (already pre-ordered!)
@SteveyAyo
I wonder what type a battery Seidio is going to make for this thing, I got the DROID extended battery from them and my phone can go 12+ hours with the wifi and gps on!
@BrianH
The only time that a "first" comment won't get down ranked, somebody should frame this and hang it up in the Engadget offices. Although, I gotta say, having the "first" poster reply to it saying "I had to" kinda took away from the irony of it.
@TomSawyer
Good job spamming your biased links to negative EVO 4G reviews without even acknowledging the positive battery life reviews from Engadget.
@TomSawyer What in the world are you talking about...HTC has very good battery life management and you can bet that the radio is put into a very low power sleep mode when you're not using the 4G. Battery life will likely improve with firmware upgrades too. The phone doesn't constantly run it's WiMax radio full throttle if it's sitting in your pocket, lol.
@BrianH - Hey, BetaMax came before VHS to. Sayin...
LTE FTW!!!
@BrianH
Nothing to say, best commercials are from VERIZON and DROID saga.
DROOOOOOOOOOOOID
@TheHypnotist
task manager? Really? They blew it. Plus, who the he'll wants to constantly switch their 4g off and on? They specifically say to switch between 4g and 3g - not 4g and wifi.
@BrianH last!
@ACEACEACE : you might want to go and line up.
Like right now.
@Ecoteric
You forgot to mention Cleveland!!!
@sonicwind And that's why he's fragmented. On specs, the Evo 4G just beat everyphone out there. http://j.mp/4g-by-evo-amazing-matchup
@TomSawyer Oh the apple fanboy, you just never quit do you? Would you like a cookie?
HTC be trollin'
@Clyzm actually they be
They see me strollin'
They laughin'
And rollin' their eyes 'cause
I'm so white n' nerdy
@Clyzm
haters gonna hate

@Clyzm
Go Android, Go HTC!
- proud HTC Incredible owner, i hope everyone enjoys their EVO!
@Wiggin21
I'm just jealous I can't get one in Canada on Rogers.
@Clyzm Yeah... I'm psyched by the hardware, but comparing it to, say, the bicycle or walking on the moon is silly. Armstrong must be rolling in his grave.
Even it's commercial is AMAZING!
@JakeK66
Magical and Revolutionary?
@JakeK66 It's simple yet great!
@Synergi Apple? :D
@JakeK66
that looks like a Saturn 1B, I'm guessing they meant to do a Saturn V, I don't remember the Saturn 1B to be a first at any major feat
@Synergi
Most Magical and Most Revolutionary!!!
@JeremyBenthem First manned Apollo program flight. Doesn't matter anyhow to the general public it'll just be that big ass rocket that Tom Hanks did the movie about, regardless of what it looks like
@Derek B
the movie one was also a Saturn V (Apollo 13)
