DoubleTwist adds some polish to Android with new media player app
Peruse the Android Market this morrow and you might come across a hot new addition from the folks at DoubleTwist. That's right, the iTunes-aping desktop sync manager has gone native on the Android platform and early feedback on its media player implementation has been positive. The free music and video player app does that whole seamless thing quite well, apparently, interfacing directly with your Windows or Mac computerino and porting over relevant playlists, ratings and media. A widget and other features are coming soon, though you'll likely have to pay for them, given the "free for a limited time" note on the download page. Better get it while the gettin's good.

@Siddharth I agree, we need a decent Linux tool. Come on guys, the field is wide open. Linux may be a smaller community but you could own it all.
Looks good, but worthless ...
- requires Doublesync client, ala iTunes, This is the main reason I got an Android, to get away from proprietary software. Very lame!
- will not recognize media already on memory.
- does not group compilations by album artist, making for a very messy library.
- a lot of my embedded album art does not show up in Doubletwist.
* I have found the best combination is to use the default Android media player and Windows Media Player. It works perfectly and requires nothing special. Or you could simply just copy/paste files onto your phone. This is what I do for adding individual albums when I am in a hurry.
For a first release, it's pretty solid. I'll probably stick to cubed for now, but I'll keep this on my Droid in case they ever do start charging for it.
I love this. This is what Android has been missing. A classy, clean interface for not just music, but also for video.

Smart playlists & song ratings?
....now make it sync wirelessly and I am hooked :)
Bonobo! :D
