Dell Streak 16GB in stock on O2 UK website
Mesmerized by that 5-inch display? Looking to get in on the action for yourself? If you're in the UK, take note: the Dell Streak is listed as "in stock," with prices starting at free on contract.
[Thanks, Luke]

@balwheeler
It's got official access - it's a 'phone' not a tablet (plus it says so on the O2 site)
@Bratyr oh ok, sweet. i knew it was a phone but i thought google had to approve it even then. hadn't seen the details on it tho. thanks for clearing it up!
Why do apple articles get pages of unfounded hearsay, but omg, its Dell, lets just post an unrelated youtube video to distract people
Looks sweet, Im one for it being free on contract in the US or any country for that matter. 500 dollars unlocked is alright but I do wish they had a non phone option for those who dont have the money for a data plan at the moment.
That's a nice deal, free on contract (hope is not a three one), now I doubt the same thing will happen here on the US.
the ui is a complete disaster
@shizzledmg
Yeah, that screen image is kind of a train wreck.
Will Richard Lai be getting one of these to review against his impressions of the Prototype?
@Plazmic Flame Sure. :)
i just read the article because it said DELL STREAK!
Too big to be a phone, too small to be a viable tablet?
@Cydoniac
Small enough to be portable
Big enough to be usable
@Cydoniac if i hear that line again im going to track down the person's ip and kill them. i think the phone is a perfect size to web browse and its small enough to put in your pocket (if you're not a midget). the only thing that prevents me from buying the phone is that it has 1.6, if they phone gets 2.2 from dell or from the hacking community i'll buy it in a heart beat (assuming it works on t-mobile's spectrum).
@saturnblackhole
Too big to be a phone, too small to be a viable tablet?
Stop trying to categorize it .... Just love it. :)
It's a great device my Evo is a small mini Slate/Tablet when I got my Evo from IO first thing you see is that its a mini tablet first then phone second witch I love reason is Evo fourm and specs
just upgrade to this & keep your old phone as a phone. Just stick a pay as you go sim in the streak.
that way you have a proper phone when you dont need a 5inch tablet/phone but for a long journey you can just that the streak.
also i wish theyd just kept with mini 5.
Terrible name. Wonder if it comes in first gen Zune brown.
@HektikLyfe
Hey look, the pot's calling the kettle black
Looks cleaner than the EVO 4G... I hope this does well
A few questions for anyone that would like to answer me. Much appreciated in advance!
Can someone tell me, and I guess I'm not clear on cdma, 3G / 4G etc phone standards, but would I be able to use the Dell Streak with my Verizon account?
I had a chance, recently, a few weeks ago to actually get my hands on the Incredible but I didn't like finger typing on a screen vs. a qwerty slideout. So, I thought I would wait.
Then, I saw a demo unit of the HTC Evo 4g at Best Buy, and wow, that thing is beautiful. It has a great screen. 4.3 I think. Basically, it looks even better than the Incredible.
Then I heard about the Motorola Shadow and Droid 2. At first, I thought I read the Droid2 would be a 4.3 screen with slide out QWERTY board. Then, I read somewhere else, it would be 3.7.
At any rate, I would give up the QWERTY for a 5" screen! I think the virtual buttons on the screen would be easier to hit with my larger fingers.
Thanks for taking to time to respond!
@rthefley
The Streak is GSM only (at the moment), so you'd only be able to use it if your provider has a SIM card. So Verizon = no go. But you could always use the wi-fi, if you want
Holy icons, Batman!
@DefPoet
USA got EVO, UK got Streak, India got nothing :((
When the hell are they gonna release a 4.3-5" WP7? Come on HTC!!!! The other day I made a 16:9 5" screen and the size is the same as the size of an entire iPhone. HTC, get rid of all the side bezel and maintain some bezel at the top & the bottom (for side holding) and release a 5" screen WP7 already!!!
Just out of curiosity , I noticed in the initial review that it said there were two microSD slots, one user accessible, and one built within the phone. Does that mean that this phone can be modified to have a bigger "internal" drive? I'll all for having more room for movies on that beautiful 5 inch screen.
Hi all,
Well I'm in the UK so have bought this direct from The CarPhone Warehouse as for me they had the best deal. I have got it for free on a 24 month contract @£25pm. This is on the Mobile Broadband tariff that gives me 3GB of Data and 300 text messages pm the reason i went for this deal is I'm not sure if this could be my only devcie and i still have 8 months left on anthoer contract that i can now cancel the data on and use just for voice.
If i find i can use the Steak as my only devcie i will add voice to it at a later date otherwise i plan on using a smaller phone for voice and the Streak for all else.
My current devcie is the Toshiba TG01 and after using this for 10 months with it's 4.1" screen i found i couldn't go back to even a 3.7" screen as found it to small when i just tried a Nexus One. For me the 5" screen of the Streak looks like being the best for my needs and still has enough portabillity IMO. I have never considered an iPad due to it's size and lack of functionallity and also it's expense as i would of needed the same Data deal for the 3G version and have to of paid £449 for the 16GB version the same amount of storgae that comes with the Streak by the way. Although of course i can either swap as many cards as i want or even get a 32GB card as they become cheaper and more readily avialble.
Of course i am looking forwrd to Froyo coming to the Streak but thankfully it is coming directly from Dell and is not Netwrok dependant. It is also due in September so not to long to wait hopefully.
@Dogmann
Im going for that data only deal too, i have a E71 for calls and this will fit nicely in my van for gps, podcasts and watching Leo on the road.
The O2 product page says its loaded with Android 1.6...

I'm scared for the US release...
@demonicpascal
this has been well covered.
It ships with 1.6, 2.2 upgrade OTA in September
Check out http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/laptop-redirect/dell-streak-tablet for more specs and info
if people make a call on this brick, they blew it.
@sighclops
Do you seriously think that any phone/tablet that is less than 10mm thick can be called a "brick".
Careful... It's thinner than the iPhone, iPhone 3G & 3GS and only 0.5mm thicker than the iPhone 4G
@todrick
IT HAS A 5" SCREEN.
@sighclops Please read the article Richard Lai provided a link for. The Streak isn't too large to hold up to your head. If you're curious about the size, just head on down to Best Buy and check out the Archos 5 Internet Tablet which is about the same size as the Dell Streak. The Archos 5 is definitely pocketable... draw your own conclusions on the Streak.
ugly. Look at that homescreen layout. YUCK!!
@FrankDTank
agreed, they clearly picked a bad homescreen for the photo...
It's icon hell... like an iPhone.
should have picked one of the screen with the widgets
Yay!!! Huge mobile phones from O2... I like retro.
@mukatuna
lmfao kudos to u my friend!
Well maybe you Apple guys just don't realise with Android you can customise your home screen layout with widgets or apps to your hearts content and in theory no two devices would ever look exactly the same. So don't worry about a silly screen shot that doesn't even look like it's the Home screen anyway. I can guarantee my home screens won't look anything like that or an iPhones either.
As i said i intend using mine for Data and not for voice to start with but should i decide to use it for voice theirs this great invention called Bluetooth works great for listening to Music in stereo or making calls and receiving calls. Very useful on a fully Multitasking device as it means you can talk to someone whilst accessing or viewing something else on the device. Now there a novel idea for the next or any iPhone.
My contract runs out this month on o2 and I'm seriously upgrading from the iPhone to the streak as I want an Android phone as my next day to day phone, I'm happy to hear this will have 2.2 in September but what is the processor in this thing?
I love big screens but this is too big for me if it's a phone, not pocketable, it's huge!!!
People who say this is too big to hold up to your head are beyond idiotic.
Have you never heard of Bluetooth??
Or a hands-free headset/mic cable. which if I recall correctly, it even comes with one!
@Johnny Rockets
Many people consider those who use bluetooth headsets anywhere but the car look like idiots too.
@Johnny Rockets
I so agree, 95% of the time i use blue tooth, when i don't is because its charging...lol So I don't know why it's such a big deal! I suppose its a huge growth potential for blue tooth headsets because it appears a lot of folks still don't use them besides in the car or something.
I agree about the size, its not too small for most uses. I also agree that many smart phones including my G1 are not ideal for In-Car Navigation but in a pinch they work just fine and its an option.
I think the tablet options by Christmas will be staggering and prices will fall like a rock.
woohoo... now complete with HDMI dock
http://briefmobile.com/hdmi-dock-for-dell-streak
The data only contract is very tempting at £25, but it would mean carrying a phone as well as this instead of just one device. Carrying this, my HTC, wallet, coins and keys around would be ridiculous, and so I'd need a bag.Therefore it may as well be a bit bigger if I'm going to need to put it in a bag anyway, 7" would be good.
Can these be played with in O2 stores today?
just ordered this off carphone warehouse
