Aiptek's 3D i2 camcorder now up for pre-sale, cheaper than expected
If you live in a constant (and expensive) state of being way ahead of the curve, you're already pining to get yourself a 3D camcorder and, as we reported last week, Aiptek's i2 will do your budget the least harm. Now we have word that formal release for the US happens in August and it'll be cheaper here than expected: $200. For that you get a device that can record 720p video in stereo and play it back on the integrated parallax barrier 3D LCD, which our intrepid reporter Andy Yang said looks awful thanks to a very small sweet spot that must be perfectly positioned in relation to your eye holes. Thankfully, things should look much better when piped out over HDMI to that 3D HDTV of yours -- first in the neighborhood, of course.

Nifty!
Also in before rant about how 3d should go away
@Joeyjoejoe Shabadoo good call on the rant, especially seeing as how it can co-exist with 2D without a price increase as the tech moves forward. But they worry about 2D going the way of B&W, *some* of them without even acknowledging how the tech has time to mature.
@Joeyjoejoe Shabadoo Are you not supposed to be "Junior Shabadoo"??
@Joeyjoejoe Shabadoo
I don't know that I think it "should" go away, but I believe it will lose most of its momentum on its own. It's not relaxing at all to watch stuff in 3D so I'm not sure how much demand will hold up.
@Joeyjoejoe Shabadoo
You do realize that you can write ANY article/blog about ANYTHING, and there's always 2 guys who will go against the grain for no other reason than to go against the grain?
I mean, if someone invented a TV screen that could puke and shit on everyone, you'd be THAT GUY to defend it and tell people to give it time to mature.
You have a concept thats over 50 years old that, so far, has added no real value to anything. Color brings you what the world "really" looks like, 3D does not. The world doesn't look b&w (unless you're color blind or something). Well, the world I know isn't a bunch of flat images layered on top of one another. Its three dimensional and '3D' is far from three dimensional, its a misnomer. It adds nothing, helps nothing. Its like the Sepia setting on your point and shoot, or a fish eye lense for your SLR... a fun effect, nothing more.
But by all means, spend your money on this useless garbage. So far, there hasn't been ONE SINGLE '3d enthusiast' to properly defend 3D and provide reasons why this will replace everything we know. The only thing you people ever say is, "it just needs time to mature"... to WHAT??? Whats it going to mature to?? Oh crap, instead of 4 flat layered pieces, now we can do 10? Whoopity doo!
Here's a flip side for you: Wouldnt' it be better if these tech companies invested more in holographic tech to bring us REAL 3d? Instead they've blown how much money on this eye candy junk? Its garbage, and until you can think of a better argument for it, you can eat all the rants all day long.
@Joeyjoejoe Shabadoo love your name, btw. One of the best single jokes on the Simpsons!
@MasterCKO Its 'Joeyjoejoe jr shabadoo the' 3rd to you
Personally while I like the look of 3d I do agree that active shutterglass is quite uncomfortable to look at, cant say much for polarization yet, but what does it matter it looks like the industry wont be supporting it (why would they when they can sell the same 120htz tvs and glasses at $120 a pair).
Keeping up with the jonses?
I AM THE JONSES!
Where was that Domo photoshop again?
3d porn. NOW!
@xyrec It's out there.
3D really should go away.
Ok. I'm getting one.
What flavor of 3D does this port? The checkerboard?
@wryker
Strawberry.
Oh wow look at that, another way for the big brands to catch us in an upgrade cycle. 3D is garbage, and so is this camera. The whole tech is just a gimmick to get you to spend more money, and it looks like its working. Gotta love all the sheeple!
If this camera is even close the image quality of my Kodak Zi8, I'll jump on it.
But I'm thinking it'll be straight crap.
I have the nvidia 3d pc setup. If it will work on that then maybe I can waste some more cash,
I Do find the nvidia 3D very good lots better than I was expecting..
