"Customers are looking for simplicity in their voice and data plans. Unlimited plans offer new EVO users the flexibility to use the device as they desire without any worry about exceeding a predetermined limit."
"With HTC EVO 4G's advanced features, like video chat and 3G/4G capability, customers may find themselves using a lot more data, so a plan with unlimited use is key," said Carrie MacGillivray, program manager at industry market research firm IDC. "Customers are looking for simplicity in their voice and data plans. Unlimited plans offer new EVO users the flexibility to use the device as they desire without any worry about exceeding a predetermined limit."
HTC EVO 4G brings capabilities U.S. wireless customers have never experienced before, including a new video chat service providing two-way voice and video capability included at no additional cost with the preloaded Qik app.1 Qik Video Chat allows you to experience events as they happen, even if you can't be there. The Qik Video Chat app enables interactive, real-time sharing with almost anyone, whether the other party has Qik installed or not.
HTC EVO 4G is this summer's must-have wireless experience as it continues to win third-party accolades and endorsements. CNET, LAPTOP Magazine and eWeek gave HTC EVO 4G awards for Best of Show when it was announced at CTIA this spring. HTC EVO 4G was recently listed on MobileTechReview's Best Smartphones and Best Touch Screen Phones lists.
According to LAPTOP Magazine, "EVO 4G packs practically everything a geek could dream of in a mobile device . . . The EVO 4G richly deserves our Editors' Choice award. It's a no-brainer for Sprint customers, and a tempting choice for those on other carriers." Visit here for early HTC EVO 4G reviews and related information.

Sporting an Eco-Friendly Box
The innovation applied to HTC EVO 4G goes beyond the device and also applies to the eco-friendly packaging. Sprint designed the box and tray to align with its commitment to sustainability, working with HTC to produce a superior environmental solution that also protects the phone.
HTC EVO 4G's package is 100 percent recyclable and partially made from sugar cane, a highly renewable material that serves as a great alternative to plastic or foam. Sugar cane pulp is becoming a popular choice for sustainable packaging because of its reduced environmental impact, as it is a renewable resource, decomposes relatively quickly in the waste stream, can be recycled in the conventional paper stream and its flexibility for use in an array of package shapes and sizes. Sprint has also significantly reduced in-box materials, encouraging users to find details online, and uses certified soy inks and water-based coating on the sleeve.
Although HTC EVO 4G was developed prior to the development of Sprint's green specifications for devices, it already meets several of Sprint's eco-criteria including RoHS compliance (the strict European Union standard for the restriction of hazardous substances) an Energy Star Level V qualified charger, use of a micro-USB connector for charging and the inclusion of a recycling envelope for customers to easily recycle their previous phone model.
Getting More for Less
In order to provide the best experience, HTC EVO 4G requires one of Sprint's industry-leading Everything Data or Business Advantage Messaging and Data plans with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM. A $10 per month Premium Data add-on is required for all HTC EVO 4G users, enabling a richer data experience than ever before at both 3G and 4G speeds.
HTC EVO 4G customers can pay just $69.99 for Sprint's Everything Data 450 plan, plus the $10 Premium Data add-on, totaling just $79.99 per month for unlimited Web, texting and calling on the Sprint Network with any mobile in America, as well as the most robust multimedia experience and fastest data speeds in wireless today. That's a savings of $40 per month versus Verizon's 3G-only plan with unlimited talk, text and Web.
An optional charge of just $29.99 per month turns on HTC EVO 4G's mobile hotspot, connecting up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices, such as laptops, gaming devices and digital cameras, simultaneously at 4G speeds, where available, and at 3G speeds anywhere on the Sprint 3G network.

Grats all, I have no need considering I have no 4g in my area or even comming anytime soon (plus I'm stuck on an AT&T fam plan) but regardless, that's one monster if a phone.
I would buy this over my iPhone any day.. Too bad the EVO isn't in Europe..(and it also doesn't work in Europe)
Damn, I really wanted to use that Referral Program that Justin linked to, but I'm already a customer and eligible for upgrade. Looks like that Program is only for new customers. :( I don't know why they do that...treating new customers better than people who've been with them for years.
@TimeBombTown I know, serious bummer about EPRP only for "new" customers. The ones who have hung in through thick and thing get ...uh..my personal appreciation? :) idk, would be nice if there was more than that.
@TimeBombTown
Looks to me like it works for existing customers. On the right hand side there is an option to pick 'have an existing plan'. The prices don't seem to change based on that.
Man I need to drop AT&T so I can get this! AT&T service is HORRIBLE but I have another year with them. Any one got ideas in how to leave them with out paying the cancellation fee?
@Dadon4sho
youre probably better off payin your ETF fees than haning around with them. i had ATT for a couple mos. what a mistake. i think every other call was dropped. Sprint has such a better deal goin on.
@Dadon4sho fake your own death? Then come back to life and buy the EVO 4G
Does anyone know precisely how much this beastily phone will cost at checkout if I'm elligble for an upgrade with sprint? Been with em' for about a year now and my Pre feels old :(
@cbelote
If you go anywhere, but sprint store, it's 199$ out the door.
Best buy has it available on there site right now. Go go go
raise your hand if youre glad youre not an ATT customer!!!!
@benchase7
im an ATT customer until sprint switches over my service. I ordered my phone 3 hours ago and they still havnt shipped it im getting impatient now
@benchase7
I still am until best buy opens and sets my evo up lol
@Joeygueez
i gotta wait till july... my ONE year ugrade is ready in 30 days.
this will drive me nuts. hope you guys enjoy the best phone available!!! :)
Oh Em Ge... Think I'm gonna 4Gasm in about 6.5hrs!!!
Can't remember last time I was this excited about a new toy!
Feels like I'm buying a new car! lol
Why can't I buy the Evo without contract? For $450, it's a very good deal!
well if its got a good battery life with all its power ..then its definately worth the buy

oh the wait...and I think my moment knows its getting replaced...lol.
I hate to keep pointing it out. The Evo is NOT a 4G phone as WiMAX is not a 4G-technology. Nor will it deliver 4G speeds when the network is at normal load. WiMAX was never built for nomadic use and is only a radio technology. Consider it like extended WiFi, which means the infrastructure behind is not part of the technology. This also means that the services offered will be exclusive to the Sprint-network only. Sprint certainly likes you to think it's 4G. Their CDMA2000 network, which is quite inferior to UMTS/HSPA has been maxed out and can not deliver the bandwidths we'd like to see. AT&T and T-Mo have a potential of making use of their existing 3G-network a lot better. Historically the 3G networks (CDMA and UMTS) have never been able to deliver impressive bandwidth. The problem is that their networks was constructed initially with focus on coverage rather than capacity. This is why many are experiencing problems with shortage of data bandwidths and even dropped calls. I have noticed myself that indoor coverage as well is very poor, because the cell sizes are constructed too large. When eventually AT&T and T-Mo have upped the capacity by establishing more Note-B's, you will benefit from a much better network than Sprint's proprietary solution.
I'd grab a HTC Desire or wait until an equivalent of the EVO is ready for UMTS/HSPA...any day.
At the end of the day LTE will be superior in terms of both experienced bandwidth and latency. This again depends on a number of factors like how large frequency blocks each operator will pick up. But one thing is for sure...WiMAX is at its end of the lifecycle..and you will end up with a nice looking phone craving that totally cool new LTE handset instead.
@webstarcool
All I heard from your post was blah blah blah, bewsht bewsht bewsht, blah blah blah... (stole that from funny scene of a movie)
There will not be an LTE phone until next summer or even later in 2011, and that is if Verizon doesn't screw up a phone launch like they normally do. Verizon is teh Devil, El Diablo! Sprint is our savior!!!
@webstarcool
Wow! All these folks are happy and celebrating the release of a phone that has been highly anticipated and you decide to be the debbie downer and ruin the party. Very informative post but why dont you save it for your personal blog that no one reads instead of splashing diarrhea all over everyones happiness. Im not even getting and Evo an im happy for my fellow geeks.
You Sir are a douche
@jhunter9918
Not trying to ruin any party. Just want to get the facts out. I'm just amazed with how uncritical Engadget has been with Sprint's marketing machine.
I do think the handset itself looks great, but it simply just runs on the wrong network and will lock you in with Sprint not only contractwize, but also technically. I think everybody deserves to know that before they rush out and gets their HTC EVO Brick.
@webstarcool http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G#WiMAX
So which is the right network down there anyway? I'm with Telus up here (HSPA+) but I would take the Evo and Sprint over the iPhone and AT&T any day of the week if I happened to live in the US.
If I get my phone through Best Buy can I use the EPRP?
Woohooo....
Can you say discounted service? What is better than getting up to 30% off your monthly bill?
Enjoy the discount.

@jeps001
you sir, are a great man. thank you!
@jeps001 It says it cannot be setup in a sprint store or 3rd party retailer. Is there anyway for me to use this with picking my phone up from RS? Should I just call that number when I get home from RS? If you purchase from sprint.com you are $300 out of pocket, plus i have already dropped $50 for the preorder RS gift card. Thanks alot man.
@Scubasteve03
If you have your new phone in hand, I would try and call the number in the flyer and see if you can get the service discount. I am not sure if that will work or not. But I do wish you luck. Do keep in mind that when you order service online, you typically have your phone within two business days. The EVO may take a bit longer as it was just released.
I am not sure how you would be $300 out of pocket if ordering from sprint.com as the EVO is $199 with a two-year contract. Maybe I am missing something.
Best of luck
@jeps001 online its $299 out of pocket with $100 mail in rebate. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. thanks
@Scubasteve03
Ah!!! Yes, it is $300 out of pocket. $200 with the $100 rebate. My bad. Did not pay attention to that. Hope it goes well for you.
This thing is looking nicer and nicer ever day. What is AT&T thinking changing their plans like that, do they want to loose business?
Picked-up my EVO at 6am on the dot at my local RS in brooklyn [store # 01-2884].
I haven't played with it, but this phone is just amazing gorgeous!!!
Right now am at work, and wishing I could go back home and sleep. Nonetheless, it was well worth the effort. The RS staff were very nice and they were happy to see us come in for the phone, even got a hug from the store manager. -;) ... well maybe because I brought her coffee and donuts for the staff.
Good times !!!
If full price for this beast is $449.99, how come the Nexus One is still $529?
I would have ordered it in advance for arrival today, but today is my wife's birthday, and she would have been a bit peeved. I think I'll wait until father's day. LOL. Biggest complaint is justifying cost increase. Am considering switching to all Wi-Fi device -- do I really need to be plugged in the the 'Net ALL the time? Similar to how we rid ourselves of cable TV.
i ordered online from Sprint. was trying to decide whether to purchase on Sprint or from Wirefly. got all the way to the end with Sprint, and then they added the taxes, which they hadn't calculated on previous screens. well, being in NYC, taxes are high. so i bailed. clicked "Cancel Order". and then got a message that said if i changed my mind and placed the order, they'd credit me $50 ($25 on the first two invoices). so i got an extra $50 off.
5 hours of battery life???
that sucks.
I've been using it since google io.
overall, I'm pretty luke warm on it, to be honest. (I also have a nexus one incidentally, which I prefer)
So in general, it's not a bad phone at all.. but it's also not great IMO.
If you're considering it - take note of the things that are increasingly annoying me;
- the cheap casing feels like it's going to break and you need to pry it open to get at the memory card (which in itself is a lesson in terrible design) -- the kickstand is also pretty cheap.
- The screen is great in some ways, but in general it's a bit too big. the whole thing takes up too much room in the pocket
- my colleague has an incredible and it seems a lot smoother (but 2.2 may fix this problem)
- the battery life is horrible -- I'm lucky to get 4 hours with moderate usage
- Sense UI sucks.. it feels like one of those over-designed linux themes and I hate the fact that it's standard and will make it so the phone won't get updates right away. (Of course you can remove sense ui.. but that won't help get OS updates any faster)
- the four buttons on the bottom don't provide good response at all - they're flush with the surface and don't click.
My recommendation;
If you're on the fence - go for the incredible (unless you're in a 4G area -- which I'm not) .. if you can deal with AT&T, get the nexus one.
@nothingreal
Full of fail.
@nothingreal
Do you even have the phone? Sure doesn't seem like it LOL My experience with everything you've said is total opposite. Battery life is amazing, The buttons work perfect, Sense UI makes Android 100x better, the big screen is awesome the phone is barely bigger than my Nexus with the Innocase on it...I had to put a case on the Nexus because it was too small for me and I was always dropping it. Casing does not feal cheap at all this is the most solid phone i've owned in a long time and the kickstand is not cheap LOL the whole mechanism is metal even inside the phone where it attaches, I don't see this ever breaking without some serious damage to the phone.
Your response is just so far off base it really seems like you don't even have the phone your just trying to justify your Nexus or something. The Nexus is a nice phone no doubt...I still have mine but the EVO is in a whole nother league!
Boughten and boughten - WOOOO!!!
The extra $10 sucks but its made a little easier because of the deal I have with sprint. I have the everything plan 450 w 20% corp discount and $20 credit for 2 years. 69 x .2 -20=awesome(35 per month) FTW
Also the EPRP knocks $10 off the Mobile hot spot price
It was available to order online since 10pm PST yesterday. I added a new line just to get mine.
ordered mine yesterday but it hasnt shipped
I would so love to drop my iphone for this now except for 2 things. When I moved to Florida 2 years ago and canceled my contract with Sprint for changing the terms (due to changing some of their smaller pass-along rates), they refused to cancel, leading me to fight with them for almost 2 years. Every collection agent they sent got a letter of explanation and copies of the letters sent to all previous collection agencies, after which they would refuse to pursue it further, and Sprint would assign it to another collection agency.
2: I have already invested in a ton of iphone apps. Of course an apology and a significant credit from Sprint (if they actually have decent service near my home now) would go a long way toward fixing problem one, and an iphone emulation app that allows one to run iphone apps would solve problem 2.
Otherwise I may just sell my iPhones on ebay and utilize the iPad w/ google voice and skype as my lone source of mobile communication, since I now have been baited and switched by ATT into being forced to auto renew my unlimited plan monthly in order to keep it.
