I just drove by the two Sprint store locations in Logan, Utah (about 90 miles north of SLC) and there were 0 people in line at both locations.
I had been antsy to get an Evo 4G up until tonight when I read a few reviews that really poo pooed the device, especially for the battery life. I'm an iPhone user who is ready to abandon AT&T and, to some extent, the ever-more-evil Apple. I was hoping this would be the device, but I might get sucked into the iPhone 4 hype next week.
What shitty reviews are these? Every review I've seen have said the device ROCKS, the only partial downside is battery life but it is apparently very similar to competing phones battery life...
@Triggdor Evo purchasers are too classy to camp out for the phone. Putting yourself at such an inconvenience and subservitude to a manufacturer and a device is imbecilic. We purchase the device and own it. Apple fanboys are owned by Apple, and thus will wait in line for hours and camp out.
@CL Admittedly, the poor review that turned me off was Techcrunch. Perhaps I should take it with a grain of salt. Either way, It's probably good that I am not going to rush out and get the device. Never hurts to wait a few minutes and see what people say, and especially in this case, wait for Android 2.2 to be released for the phone and see if it improves the device at all.
@sonicwind a local Sprint rep advised getting to the store at about 4 or 5 this morning in advance of the 8 a.m. opening because of all the hype surrounding the device.
@xelastik2002 That's true, but that isn't saying much given the Evo also has a much larger screen and a faster cpu, it probably use more juice as well.
@TickLe MY eLMo Actually I was talking about the first not-so-detailed review. They didn't find it exciting. Not sure whether they came up with another round of review. I haven't used this phone. But I will place my money on this one. HTC really makes awesome hardware.
@sonicwind To classy? Or maybe people think it's just not that important enough to wait in line for. After all, the next best HTC device will be out in a week or 2 and the EVO will be forgotten like all the others.
Yes, like myself, the Shack called me and set up an appointment days ago to activate my EVO. Much better than snoozing in a foldable camping chair for who knows how long before being ravaged by a bunch of dudes who need their iPhone fix.
@Triggdor Why would anyone buy an EVO today. Iphone announcement on Monday, so its best to wait and see what Apple will be doing first. I'm sure there will be plenty of EVO's around next week if you want one.
@xelastik2002 The size doesn't matter nearly as much as the efficiency. Look at it like this: A fat guy has an extra-large soda, while a skinny guy has a medium soda....
@jsbaugh I bought my Evo today, along with many others for multiple reasons. 1) Lots of people really don't care for Apple. 2) Lots of people really don't care for AT&T.
I'm not saying this is unbiased, I could personally care less about Apple or AT&T for numerous reasons, but I'm a nerd / programmer / regular Linux user, so I like the Android OS much better anyway and was already on Sprint and ready for an upgrade. Why wait to see what the next iPhone can do when I haven't had any desire to own the last three?
It does 12 hours with NOTHING RUNNING. Nothing. IDLE.
That is HORRIBLY BAD. It's not even close to being "the same" as other smartphones, especially not the iPhone. If I use my iPhone intermittently, check email, make some calls, play a game here and there, it will last TWO DAYS.
Jesus. I'm not saying you can't get another battery and deal with the problem that way but for fuck's sake don't make it sound better than it is. It's TERRIBLE.
Are you going to brag about how big your battery is when you're stuck in the middle of nowhere but you're phone is dead? Capacity doesn't matter if your phone dies in 3 hours after heavy use.
@Triggdor Okay, seeing as I trust what Engadget says more than myself, here is a quote: "We know what you're thinking, though: what about battery life? Amazingly, we got some three hours and 13 minutes of run time while using the EVO continuously as a 4G hotspot -- and when we say "continuously," we mean we were streaming high-quality audio the entire time. What's more, the phone wasn't even fresh off the charger when we started; it had been on and in heavy use for two hours and four minutes prior. Bottom line, this thing seems to be a champion on a 1500mAh battery; we can't even begin to fathom what a massive aftermarket pack would do to it." Okay, so I don't like copying, but it seems to be the only way to get through to you... Link: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/19/htc-evo-4g-review/
Is it really necessary to lie? You can hardly play any games if your phone lasts two days. Hell, you can hardly use it at all. No way it lasts two day unless you just let it idle. Gaming is killing the battery.
@thunder18 This is a new review. I am talking about the brief overview some 2 weeks back or so. Gizmodo wasn't too keen on EVO then. And I won't be surprised since I find that website heavily biased towards Apple anyway.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

@TickLe MY eLMo
Gizmodo guys didn't like EVO at all..... I wonder why...
@Triggdor I wouldn't count techcrunch and gizmodo as "reviews".
I only read them if I want some good lulz.

@krishansy
Just read the evo review from them, and no, they didn't, fail buddy.
@Triggdor
A ported version on a rooted evo has massive improvements just like the nexus one...go watch the video...it wasn't even an official release either.
@Triggdor
do you know that the EVO's battery has 23% more capacity than the 3GS? Plus you can remove it unlike the 3GS
@xelastik2002
That's true, but that isn't saying much given the Evo also has a much larger screen and a faster cpu, it probably use more juice as well.

@Triggdor
I have a nexus one and I can tell you after installing froyo 2.2 myoung battery lasts about 50% more than 2.1. oh and it is REALLY FASTER
@sonicwind

@krishansy Re-read the review then. Cause you are wrong.
@xelastik2002

@CL
Agree - that site has turned into a real ClusterF. Makes me LOL!
@dorothymantooth The skinny guy drinks his first because your gay scenario made him uber thirsty...
@sonicwind Oh yeah! Classy for sure. I mean, it shows in the pictures.
Don't be ridiculous.

@Jack
Everything i've heard is you can get a day+ on idle, where are you idiots getting these numbers from, seriously?
@Triggdor this device doesn't need any improvement .... best phone to date period
@Triggdor
Why is this comment down ranked, freedom of speech?
@Triggdor
