Qik details its premium service tier, free until July 15 (video)
Remember how we said Qik was going to rock your world (and your credit card) with its premium-tier offerings for the Evo 4G? Well, as promised, June 4 is here and we now know exactly what you'll be getting for your extra $5 a month. The full table of goodies is after the break, but highlights include video conferencing at resolutions greater than 640 x 480, unlimited archiving of video, the ability to send video mail, and of course "priority support" should you have a problem handling the Qikening. The updated version of the app, demonstrated in a video below, is available today for the Evo 4G and users can get a taste of those sweet, exclusive features for free until July 15. After that, it's time to pay up or take the trip back to VGA Chatsville. Don't have an Evo? There's also a new version of Qik in the Market for lesser Android smartphones, but video chat is still not on offer.

so pretty much the only thing of any value in the premium is group video access? The other features seem like you could do for free, just as well with the integration to your google account.
@Nikkoli
Charging customers so that they can chat with a higher res, group vid chat and some other small stuff is fucking stupid. I'm pretty sure most people will save their $5 a month.
@impulse462 I'm pretty sure it's a corporate account add-on. Most individuals won't do it, but when someone else is paying the bill, features like that might be nice.
@Nikkoli There's an app in the Android Marketplace called Fring that with Skype, makes free video chat on the Evo too
There can be only one.
@ "free until July 15"
By that time, there will be other similar apps that are free to use and or pay once on the market. No sweat.
iChat on the iPhone 4th gen is going to blow this out of the water.
@Shalabi Well wouldn't ichat be well just for other ichats tho? so pretty much apple device to apple device?
@Shalabi Dude you're like the insignificant immortal they show being decapitated in the cut out scenes of Highlander. Off with ya head, dance til you're dead! Heads will troll, heads will troll!! Fool!
@Shalabi
Yeah, for 15 minutes...until you blow out your 2Gb data cap.
@Shalabi Im hoping they update the iPhone Qik app after the next iPhone comes out so we have similar features....won't be AS good since it's not on 4G but it will be ok I guess
@teky Glad they are letting me keep the 5GB plan....damn sure have no need to change it...
@ThatDudeSolo
Actually, iChat speaks the AOL IM video protocol between users, so I'd imagine this should theoretically work with anyone that has an AIM video compatible chat client, desktop iChat users, or MobileMe users.
@ThatDudeSolo iChat uses an open standard so it is not restricted to other iChat clients.
Sorry for another post but she's kinda hot! If you see this Lauren I'll have you know I'm a dapper geek! I'm serious!
She's not afraid to let em' know who's boss huh??
@majorhunadadun
i bet she loves the Qikie!
Thanks. Now I'm going to have that Queen song stuck in my head all day.
@enormous Heeeeere we are, born to video chat....

@TimStevens Great, now I can't shake the image of those Queen hip-thrusts either. You're on a roll Tim!
@enormous I'm particularly fond of the mic stand air guitar move!
@TimStevens With what he's doing with that mic stand/sword contraption, I don't think "air guitar" is the most fitting description...
Even though the premium service seems better with the higher res, group vid chat, and taking pictures of videos while it's streaming. I think I'll save my $5 a month until it becomes a one time fee or they add more features
its to bad that it keeps crashing every time i try to sign in
You must forgive my younger brother Shalabi. He was kicked by a camel when younger.
I think I can live w/o it.
Where did the live streaming go?
