Metro PCS to join Android game with a Motorola QWERTY slider
A four-row sliding QWERTY keyboard? Check. Metro PCS splash screen? Check. Motorola insignia? You better believe it. The folks at AndroidGuys have obtained what very strongly appears to be Metro PCS' first Android phone, and along with a handful of pics there's some alleged specs, too. From the man (or woman) behind the curtain: a 600MHz processor, 3 megapixel camera, and Android 2.1 with Motoblur dressing. An EVO 4G combatant it is definitely not -- nor ever intended to be -- but we wouldn't be surprised if the price turned more than a few heads. Any indication of price, release date, or even official name is, however, still a mystery.

With Android everybody gets something
@AlienSix
...like herpes?
@redhineymonkey
The screen is using protection...
Offset home button with a purple ring around it....fail.
@mosaicbrandon
where's the back enterence lol
Looking at that keyboard makes me feel dizzy :S
Interesting keyboard.
now if only AT&T could get an decent Android...
@Troyb0y29
welcome to land called downranked
@Troyb0y29 umm...negative. plus i don't want to trade my soul for a phone.
The new iPhone only has a 5mp camera that's lame I'm thinking about going to android @Troyb0y29
@apple12390
if you honestly think that increasing the MP count on a phone camera sensor makes pictures better, then you're high. if anything, i wish manufacturers went for lower MP counts so the photos actually turned out a little better. those sensors are just way too small to jam in 5-8 megapixels
@owdee Not the phone for me bc I distaste taking, and being taken in, pictures, but why not have the best of both worlds? Nokia N8, you can have a 12MP camera that replaces a point and shoot while making the value of carrying a separate DSLR go down the tubes.
Hopefully they won't gimp the hell out of it.
@N900
Too late. It already has Motoblur.
Good for Metro Piece Of Shit.
@anotherworld
+1 lol. I hear that their service isn't really good.
@anotherworld
Im late... buuuut, i had metro in Miami fl for well over 4 years, and i have no issues or complaints about the service. Seeing android coming on board with them might even pull me back to them.
Still a little concerened Motorola is Still playin games about a Android Phone for Sprint. The Nextel Android doesnt count. Very disappointed. Motorola makes a tone of phones for us.
@3 Phones Jugglin Who knows. Their best phones will go to Verizon most likely though, due to their agreement of heavy advertising.
Hilarious, Metro friggin PCS might have a decent Android phone before AT&T does.
My question: why bother? Giant waste of time trying to cater to such a small minority of people who want awesome phones with no contract and bad service.
My answer: well, it is Motorola after all...
@MarkCohen
still, I'd like to see more competition on wireless, and MetroPCS has dirt cheap prices, and finally a good phone
@MarkCohen Yeah, they're only the 5th largest carrier in the US :S
@MarkCohen why bother with a comment like that? I think if the non-big 4 can get a few decent phones they have a shot to nearly double their market share. Think about what is holding them back...prices? service? customer service?
I'm not very familiar with their service but I haven't heard or read many complaints and it all comes down to where you live. They can beat at least 2 of the top 4 in each of these categories, in price they can beat all 4. So if it's the hardware then, check, one less reason to avoid something that can bring on the new wave of competition where there is actual choice and competition in the US marketplace.
@MarkCohen funny how you say " Giant waste of time trying to cater to such a small minority of people" and your avatar is a Pre. I would be all over this if it wasn't a Motorola device. Moto is hard set on having signed boot loaders... and they are not particularly speedy with their updates. HTC, while they take their sweet time pushing updates, it doesn't matter much, because XDA picks up the slack.
If you work out the math, unlimited talk/text/we for $40 including taxes (that's the commercials they show in the Los Angeles area now). How much is your monthly bill? (I have gone over 200 minutes once over the last 3 years, so minutes are irrelevant for me). Lowest around is Sprint for $70 plus taxes. So, $35/mo X 24 Mo = $840 for me. How much is that HTC Evo out of contract? I believe less then $840.
How about this on Criket
@Xoy I think theirs an Android phone headed for Cricket...
A phone only a mother could love.
@Purlieu
I think my mom DOES have that phone.
Yeah yeah most of you guys are quick to crap on Metro PCS about their service/coverage but the other BIG carriers suffer from the same problems depending on where you are.
With that being said they are planning on launching LTE nationwide by the end of the year, not to mention this is the 2nd confirmed android phone going to Metro; Kyocera Zio has been spotted in the wild with Metro branding http://tweetphoto.com/17829617.
And this is better than what we have on AT&T.
Mehtro PCS
Finally! Hopefully they bring out their 4G network soon too.
Ghettero PCS.
Can Moto make a decent keyboard? Actually this one is not THAT bad...kind wierd with all the lines running through though :)
Wow metropcs with an android. $60.00 unlimited and I could call my country for free all day all night?
Fuck yeah I'm getting me 1. I see the days of my iPhone been short. Yes sir.
That really looks like a KIRF Cliq. O_O
that is one ugly handset...
sometimes (rarely, but sometimes) I wish Google was just a touch more like Apple and would tell these guys to Eff off when they designed ugly things like this to run Android.
One of my girlfriends has MetroPCS with an LG Imprint phone, and I was shocked at how GOOD the service actually is! About 5 years ago, MetroPCS had terribel service, but since then, they really have improved a GREAT deal and are as good as the big carriers.
Actually considering they're the 5 largest carrier in the US and look like they'll be the first carrier to launch LTE commercially too, I think it is a good move.
Now all it needs is 3G data. Which Metro doesn't have. Except in Detroit.
