Don't iPad apps have the HD tag on them? It would cause confusion if they called this one iPhone HD. Besides, the screen resolution won't be 720p or 1080p so it make less sense. I know other devices have gotten the HD tag without being true HD, but I don't see Apple doing it.
And you can forget about it being called 4g... Apple just made a big stink about Tmobile using the term 4g on something that wasn't true 4g.
My guess is that it will be called something simple like Iphone 4.
It won't be the iPhone HD, iPad apps are already marked by "HD" in the app store, naming the iPhone that would just cause confusion.

*4G is purely a product name and a coincidence of the cellular network technology also refereed to as "4G" and AT&T will offer no such thing.

I'd like him to show off the iPhoneC - short for CDMA. So if you wanted to get it on a carrier that had coverage you could get it on Verizon or Sprint.
iPhone 3G and 3GS were upgrades based on the original iPhone (similar design or HW) . This one is entirely new so I think they are gonna reset it and it's gonna be just iPhone. I'd definitely like it.

@georgeangelo It's fake obviously because every summer when a new iPhone was released these type of renders popped up in like a day before it's release, sometimes even hours before like at midnight, freaky shit but it's fake.

@Dutchyguy That's a really good idea, but it sounds a little too generic for Apple. Maybe like the iPhone Quad or something to represent four. Or iPhone IV, even.

Does it have any significance that ALL the leaked models have only had 'iPhone' printed on the back? With all these leaks I would have expected some better proof of what it will be called, if anything.
I suspect another cycle of 3 will start now.

@september11th No it doesn't. Every iPhone to date (even 3G and 3GS models) has had only "iPhone" printed to its back shell. That's also the case with all iPod models (just "iPod" printed to them, nothing else). These extensions to model names are never used in the products themselves, AFAIK.
I think iPhone HD is the most likely; however, I do have doubts. That's because a lot of iPad apps differentiate themselves from the same iPhone app with the term HD. For example, 'Analytics' is the iPhone app and the iPad version is called 'Analytics HD'. This may cause some confusion to some people, but I think the next best option is 'iPhone Video' but that sounds a bit rubbish!
Out of those, iPhone 4 or iPhone HD seem to be the most likely. 4G is out of the question, as the phone doesn't have 4G (or is really unlikely to have). I think they're gonna play big on the high-res screen and call it HD.
i can't imagine that either verizon or att's 4G networks are worthy enough yet for apple to do 4G. given the 720p etc., i would go with iPhone HD or something of that nature...nothing to do with 4g.

In all seriousness, iPhone HD is my genuine guess. It's already been rumoured, and it fits with the new HD screen that people have supposedly discovered it to be sporting.
If the device is reasonably priced (hahahahahahahaha) and, indeed, supports mythical features currently only known to those who dwell within the Ivory Tower at the centre of the Cupertino campus, then I might pick one up if it becomes clear that it's better than the HTC Evo, another phone I'm considering.
Bearing in mind that Apple are playing a little bit of a catchup game with regards to Android (forget Windows Phone 7, I think it'll turn out to be a lemon with very limited market share as with most WinMo stuff), it'll be interesting to see what features make it into the final OS 4.0 build that aren't currently in the public beta.
I really can't decide between Android and the iPhone at this point.
This wasn't in the poll, but i voted iPhone 4g. My guess was that it was going to be called iPhone 3G HD
