Sure, we might be seeing some big changes to the iPhone
tomorrow, but what if you could see some big changes on your very own iPhone,
today? Well, you can if you're brave enough to try installing Android on your iPhone, which we've
seen done before, but not with Android 2.2 (otherwise more deliciously known as
Froyo). Still not convinced that such a thing is possible? Then head on past the break for the video evidence, and hit up the link below for the complete, not-for-the-faint-of-heart instructions for performing the feat yourself.
P.S. Of course, "runs" isn't exactly the same as "runs well." The iPhone in the video apparently got noticeably hot after five minutes of use, and there's some issues with Android not recognizing little things like WiFi or the phone's GPU.
@Col Forbin Well I have the Zune pass, which is one of my primary reasons for wanting a Windows phone. Froyo is gonna have full flash support and is free to develop for (if I ever feel the need to mess around with it). And between the iPhone and Android store/market, there wouldn't be an app that I wouldn't have access to.
all the apple fans are like YES FLASH but you wont be able to use flash your browser will crash due to your outdated shitty half ass steve jobs looking slow shit spitting out hardware
let me add that it will go even slower once your single organism processor tries to multitask
@big nazty
WTF?
@big nazty
Let me add that it would be good to understand a little bit about hardware before making stupid ass comments such as you did.
By the way.... Snapdragon will not have dual core until late 2010 (8672)
@Col Forbin and? singlecore snapdragons already run circles around apples newst A4, by next spring the "iphone 4g" is going to be looking pretty damn shitty as far as the hardware specs go when the 1.5ghz snapdragons are common, and these dual cores hit the streets.. its already looking pretty damn shitty next to HTCs current offerings, other than the high res screen, but who cares when its slightly smaller than the current iphone products, WTF?
@big nazty
haha I'm sorry, as horrible and uninformed as that comment was, I had to uprank you for making me lol. Congrats
@d0ug
How does that apply to single core or dual core multitasking as my comment was replaying to?
architecture between A4 and snapdragon are more then diff enough that direct comparisons are not even possible, just because there both ARM does not make them the same. These are SOC, its more then GHz. Thats without even adding OS to the equation.
So clearly saying "run circles around apples newest A4" is a fanboy comment that is a My Spec Sheet Is Bigger Then Yours. SOC micro processors are not scalable in XX% from 1, 1.3, 1.5 GHZ. Its getting into the same P4 GHz argument as before
"damn shitty next to HTCs current offerings" stop being an EVO diehard and understand the differences, its not all about 1 part and its GHz.
@d0ug
I think many people are mistaken on this.
The Intrinsity optimized A4/Hummingbird Cortex A8 core with the PowerVR SGX 53X core is faster than any Snapdragon 1Ghz implementation:
is.gd/cFx7s
is.gd/cFxdE
There. Read the benchmarks.
Clock for clock Hummingbird/A4 is 10-20% faster in CPU and 100% or more faster in 3D GPU operations.
@big nazty please tell me though the significance of this though? if you actually looked at the video and read the article you would see how hard it is for the iphone transitions its so laggy now try to run a game.... this is how jobs made the animation so flashy and smooth then you apples try to say i would get n android if it had better transition animations.... like for real your hardware is outdate quit tryna pimp my grandma type of shiz..... only thing you apply fan bois had going for you with the new iphone is the front facing camera and the evo beat you there i will be upranked for toasting you fan bois fany packs
Seriously, are all the iFanBoys talking about Android users having to wait for an official OS update? And you guys get an update, what, Once a year if you're lucky?
Meanwhile, custom Android ROMs are released nearly every week, with an official update at least twice a year.
@tpoise
Yeah... Dam them iPhones and there clearly defined upgrade path!!! Let me go and buy a T-Mobile G1 phone so i can get 2.2, yeah...
/S
@tpoise
And most of those custom Android ROMs (esp. across platforms):
- crash
- malfunction
- don't have all the drivers
Now I'm sure it's nice for geeks and people who have time to just 'play' with tech stuff, but some of us actually go to work and use these devices as our daily tools.
They must function.
For that type of activity, custom ROMs is like playing russian roulette.
Thanks, but I've played a few too many rounds already on that myself.
lol iphone cant run...well, the awsomeness that is known as android =P
so, they can put froyo on an iphone, a nexus one, and unofficially on a droid, but verizon and motorola take forever to get it officially for the droid? sounds like pure laziness to me
now that is just plain stupidity
lol,
I have heared that Google will be the next Apple.
This is funny!!
More reasons to to get an iphone.
